Students in Lakeland’s Agricultural Sciences programs manage the Student-Managed Farm – Powered by New Holland (SMF). There, they make decisions that have real-world implications.
A WORLD OF OPPORTUNITY. TAKING CHARGE ON THE
The SMF is made up of over 3,700 acres of land, with land for crop, cattle, dairy, bison and equine herds. Students work with the latest in agricultural technology, assist in research projects and make important industry connections.
I’ve gained a lot more from SMF than I was expecting coming into it,” Emily Creusot, second-year Crop Technology student and assistant general manager for the crop SMF. “Coming here puts you a step ahead of everyone else, especially for your future career. A lot of employers I’ve talked to, they say ‘oh, you went to Lakeland. That’s awesome, we would really like to have you.’ It’s pretty awesome to be involved in an industry that cares so much. It all goes back to farmers feeding the world.”
The future of agriculture is technology. Study the cutting-edge developments in agriculture without neglecting the roots of production in our industry-driven programs.
You’ll immerse yourself in real-world learning situations, like managing a crop or livestock enterprise, providing needed animal care, hosting and participating in industry events, and more.
Our 3,700-acre StudentManaged Farm – Powered by New Holland provides extensive opportunities to learn by doing. Combined with our innovative facilities such as Animal Health Clinic, Agriculture Technology

MIND-BLOWING opportunities
When new Environmental Sciences diploma graduate Nathaniel Hak toured Lakeland, he quickly realized he had found the right school.
I was instantly hooked by the idea that I could complete my program outdoors, and that my education did not have to be defined by a classroom,” Nathaniel explains. “Lakeland allowed me to gain experience in my field that directly translates to the real world. It has been awesome to take what I’ve learned in the outdoor labs and apply those concepts to my career.”
During the summer of 2023, Nathaniel worked for Nature Saskatchewan in his hometown of Regina, Sask., where the conservation skills he acquired at Lakeland were of great use. He transferred his Lakeland credits to the University of Regina where he’s completing a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Biology.
GET INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE.
Make a difference in the natural world around you. Whether conserving, rehabilitating, or advocating, you’ll leave the classroom behind and learn in the fields, forests, rivers and wetlands on and around campus.
