Technology Upgrades in Garfield Hall A generous $150,000.00 gift from Gretchen ’62 and George Smith to Lake Erie College has allowed for technology upgrades and modernization of one of the College’s main academic buildings, Garfield Hall. Gretchen Smith of Longwood, Florida realizes the role that technology plays in the lives of both teachers and students. According to Smith “technology is constantly changing and educators must remain on the forefront of those changes in order to provide effective education and to bring their students along.” The gift from Gretchen and her husband George, provided technology upgrades and remodeling of the main lounge area one the first floor of the Garfield Center. Additional classroom equipment with smartboard technology, movable desks and tables, projection and sound system upgrades will help link LEC students with the rest of the world. The gift could not have been timed any better according to Tony Fulgenzio, Vice President of Advancement at Lake Erie College. “The upgrades to the learning space will benefit our faculty and students and given the current pandemic, will help to create additional virtual academic offerings.” Gretchen Smith earned a degree in education in 1962 from Lake Erie College. Her husband, George, is a graduate in Engineering from The Ohio State University, and a co-founder of Wharton-Smith, Inc., a Florida based construction company. The company builds academic facilities at various colleges and universities and works in many other areas of heavy construction.
EQ Transportation Van makeover One of the Lake Erie College vans received a makeover recently. Thanks to staff in physical plant, the College has designated one of the campus vans to transport students to and from the Equestrian Center and it’s not hard to tell which van it is!
