The District of Lake Country recently engaged in a comprehensive update to the Official Community Plan (OCP). The updated Lake Country OCP (April 29, 2019) remains relatively similar to the 2010 document in terms of the overall vision for the District, and has focused on some key elements that were identified by citizens and stakeholders during the community engagement period.
The guiding principles of the existing OCP have remained relatively similar in the updated document. These provide the foundation for what the District aims to achieve over the lifespan of the plan (2018-2037). The principles are as follows:
- Preserve our rural and agricultural character
- Create a vibrant town centre
- Promote development in existing neighbourhoods
- Achieve sustainable development through smart growth
- Protect and enhance our natural environment
- Facilitate an active, healthy, inclusive community
- Maintain high quality municipal services
