Seven Oaks tries again on election

NOV. 22 AT RB INN

Holiday luncheon tickets go on sale

BY ELIZABETH MARIE HIMCHAK

The 1,759 property owners in Seven Oaks are being asked to re-vote on amendments to their neighborhood’s rules due to a ballot misprint in an attempt earlier this summer. The new ballots are due Dec. 15. To pass, 880 owners must vote yes. The amendments, which the Seven Oaks Board of Directors has referred to as “fairness” amendments, have sparked controversy in the seniors-only neighborhood that includes an anonymous-authored flier being distributed that urges property owners to vote no. Elaine Jeter, board secretary, said when the original ballot text was returned from the board’s lawyer this summer, it contained three typos — one misspelled word and an incorrectly identified article and section number. When brought to the board’s attention by a resident a few days after it was distributed in mid-July, the board tried to resolve the situation quickly but the lawyer was on vacation and See ELECTION, Page 15

Tickets are on sale now for Rancho Bernardo’s 22nd annual Thanksgiving luncheon — an event that not only brings together hundreds in the community, but raises money for several local projects. As per tradition, the luncheon will be on the Tuesday prior to Thanksgiving. The Nov. 22 event will begin with an 11 a.m. reception followed by the noon luncheon in the Rancho Bernardo Inn’s Aragon Ballroom. The hour-long reception is something that developed over the years because when it was shorter, at times it was difficult to round up the hundreds of attendees so the luncheon could start since they were having such fun visiting with one another, said Bob Wells, who helped found the luncheon and is on this year’s planning committee. Despite the longer reception, Wells said there are some who are so eager to see fellow Rancho Bernardans they have not seen in a year that they will likely arrive earlier than 11 a.m. “This is truly the one time a year when Rancho Bernardo gets together as a community,” Wells said. Because it is held locally and all profits go to the Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation’s grants program, he said “people love it.” Entertainment will be provided by Rancho Bernardo High School’s Madrigals, an award-winning choir making its luncheon debut, he said. Tickets are $50 per person or $500 for a table for 10. Each luncheon ticket includes one opportunity drawing ticket. Drawing offerings include two $500 Nordstrom gift cards and a deluxe hotel package for the Rancho Bernardo Inn, he said. Additional drawing tickets can be purchased at the luncheon, priced at $10 each or three for $20. Winners must be present. See TICKETS, Page 15
