Grad Nite needs helpers

Discovery Shop to hold birthday event

Poway High School’s Grad Nite celebration is fast approaching, and volunteers are needed to make it a success. This year’s Grad Nite, “Let the Good Times Roll,” is significantly short on PHS parent volunteers, according to Grad Nite committee member Tracy Childs. Despite re-using many of the props and materials from last year’s Grad Nite, there is still a lot of work to be done in moving the pieces from their workspace in Rancho Bernardo to the school, as well as staffing the event itself. Childs said the Grad Nite committee is seeking both PHS parent volunteers and volunteers from the community to prepare the panels and the facade 6 - 9 p.m. Wednesdays and 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturdays through June 5 at the worksite, 10850 Via Frontera in Rancho Bernardo. Strong individuals are also needed to help carry the panels from the PHS north parking lot to the PHS gym 8 a.m. Saturday, June 8. Volunteers should meet at the PHS Junior (north) parking lot by the storage bins. The Grad Nite committee is also still seeking food and prize donations, as well as underwriting expenses. To find out more and volunteer, contact PHS Grad Nite co-chairs Kristine Smithers and Laura Blair Johnson at phsgradnite2013@gmail.com.

The Rancho Bernardo Discovery Shop, 16787 Bernardo Center Drive Suite A1B, will celebrate the 100th birthday of the American Cancer Society, its parent organization. There will be birthday cake and coffee served from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 18 and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 19. There will also be vintage items, coffee and tea items plus decorations on sale. Call 858-385-0479.
