by three runs or less. Rancho Bernardo (16-4, 2-0 Palomar League through Tuesday) had won the game five years in a row before the Titans (14-5, 2-0 through Tuesday) finally put a halt to the streak with a 3-1 victory last season. Danielle White, now a senior, stroked a twoout, two-run single in the fifth inning to lift Poway to its seventh win in the Game at the Lake. That single became part of a long list of memorable moments since the inaugural game in 1997. That one was an 11-inning thriller, which Rancho Bernardo won 3-2. In 2002, Poway’s Mandy Brown tossed an eight-inning no-hitter and the Titans clinched their first Palomar League crown in school history with a 1-0 victory. In 2000, the sprinklers turned on in the top of the seventh inning and the game was suspended and completed at Poway High School the next week. The Titans won 4-3. “There have been so many memorable games played there,” Bennet said. “Last year was big because they had a little streak going and we needed to break it and we came up big. But I would have to say the sprinkler game is the most memorable, if I had to pick one.”

Notre Dame-bound junior Sara White will likely start in the circle for Rancho Bernardo. The three-year veteran had nine strikeouts in the game last year. The Titans could counter with senior Alayna Brenman, Cal-bound Kourtney Shaw or sophomore Brianna Parkes. “I might use all three of them as far as I know,” Bennet said. “I might just have them go through the lineup one time. That could be a way to slow down Rancho Bernardo.” Not many have had success cooling off the bats of the Broncos. Rancho Bernardo, led by Danielle Knoetze, White and Tiana Miller at the plate, have only been shutout once this season. The Broncos lit up Torrey Pines’ ace Rachel Nasland for five earned runs. Poway and Rancho Bernardo met back in March during the Cougar Classic. The Broncos won 4-3, but that contest went to international tiebreaker rules in the fifth inning due to a time limit. That won’t be the case Friday, if the two go to extra-innings. “We will play until the lights go out at 10, if we have to,” Bennet said. “It is going to be another great game and all the kids are looking forward to it. It is going to be a fun night, win or lose.”

She is just rounding into shape.” Garcia runs the anchor for the 4x400-relay team, which is ranked fourth in the section. She runs in the leadoff

position for the 4x100-relay team, which is ranked sixth in the section. She is just outside the top-10 in the county in the 100 hurdles, which she has been working hard to improve upon. “I should be three-stepping for the whole race in the 100 and I don’t know why I am not,” Garcia said. “I have been practicing it since my freshman year so it has been frustrating. In my head, I know I can do it. But

it just doesn’t happen.” “Once she does the threestepping then look out,” Jones said. “I think the 100 hurdles will be where she really excels.” Garcia will start to put it into high gear, as the Palomar League finals and the section championships are on the horizon. “My goal is to get to state and have fun with it,” she said. “I have been having a lot of fun so far.”

But ultimately, she just wants Poway to finish on a high note. “I just want to finish off the season strong,” she said. “I want our team to be united and people playing to the best of their abilities and to have no regrets. We have the speed, the stick skills and the athleticism to beat all these teams (in the Open Division). It just

Many players with her talent opt to head to the East Coast to play lacrosse, but Porter wants to be part of the lacrosse boom on the West Coast. “I think it is good for players to stay local,” said Porter, who has not missed

an Aztecs’ home game this year. “I know some people that might not agree because they want to get away from their parents. But I love having my parents’ support at the games.” Por ter and the T itans were slated to play Westview on Tuesday in a firstplace Palomar League showdown (check PomeradoNews.com for results). They will host Canyon Crest Academy Friday before traveling to face Rancho Ber nardo again on Tuesday.

back of the net as much as they would like. Senior midfielder Austin Ekeroth has been leading a young group on offense. “We are still trying to figure out the best formula for these kids,” Begay said. “But we are learning more about these kids with every game and they continue to get better.” Meanwhile, the Titans opened the season with a four-game winning streak before topranked Torrey Pines ended the run with an 11-4 victor y over Poway. The Titans then encountered the toughest part of the their

schedule and went through some highs and lows. “It was still early in the year when we lost to Torrey Pines,” Sharpe said. “We still have to tweak some things, but I think we are all starting to mesh together. I think we will start clicking and get on a roll before the playoffs.” The rivalry game could be a key turning point for either one of these teams. Both could use the momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season.

The first game is at 10:30 a.m. and the second will be at 1:30 p.m. Alex Jackson concluded the Falcons’ series by bashing two home runs to bring his season total up to eight. Nikko Holm also had a

great series, going 4-for-9 to raise his batting average to .451. Gosuke Katoh is right behind, hitting .444 on the year for the Broncos. Pitchers Matt Osborne and Parker Bugg continued their solid ef for t, combining for 14 innings of shutout baseball in two victories.
