Identity formation is a lifelong endeavour, however at the epicentre of this process is an identity crisis that takes place during the adolescent years. Identity formed during adolescence sets the trajectory for adulthood in a significant way. In recent decades, especially in Western cultures, this crucial stage of identity formation has become prolonged extending into the late twenties. Labelled as an identity crisis, the psychosocial impact that this is having upon young people is devasting as anxiety, suicide rates, gender dysphoria, mental illness and numerous other pathologies are increasing. Emerging Adulthood (EA) has become widely accepted as a term to describe this delayed adulthood. The purpose of this book is to identify what contributes to delayed adulthood and propose a model for mentoring EA&8217sduring this life stage from a theological, psychological and social perspective.
