What is Asthma? Identify allergens or triggers and plan to avoid them (smoking, pets, etc.) Call your doctor immediately if you are not feeling well or have trouble breathing. Make a list of contact phone numbers for emergency.

Asthma is a common disease characterized by airway constriction. People with asthma have difficulty breathing. Symptoms include wheezing, cough and feeling tight in the chest. It is important to seek healthcare professional treatment if any of these symptoms occur (Hilger & Krull, 2014).


Your child should need to use his or her inhaler no more than two times a week.

You should be able to recognize when your child is having trouble breathing and know how to intervene.

Your child should know how to use his or her asthma inhaler.
