ADELE ADKINS

Welcome to Laguna Playhouse,

When audiences think of “Jaws”, they think of the score, the suspense, and the cinematic legacy that forever changed summer movies. The Shark Is Broken invites us somewhere far more intimate: behind the camera, between takes, and into the very human waiting that shaped one of the most iconic films of all time.

Set aboard a boat adrift off Martha’s Vineyard, this play unfolds in the long pauses—when the shark doesn’t work, the weather won’t cooperate, and three actors are left alone with their fears, ambitions, humor, and vulnerability. What emerges is a surprisingly moving exploration of creative pressure, ego, uncertainty, and the fragile camaraderie that forms when success is far from guaranteed.

For us at Laguna Playhouse, this story resonates deeply. Live theatre, like filmmaking, is a collaborative leap of faith. It is built on trust, patience, and the courage to create amid uncertainty. The Shark Is Broken reminds us that legendary outcomes are often forged not in moments of triumph, but in moments of doubt, persistence, and connection. We are thrilled to share this sharp, funny, and heartfelt production with our audience. It celebrates the messy reality of making art—and the resilience required to see it through. Thank you for joining us, and for continuing to support the behind-the-scenes work that brings stories like this to life on our stage.
