From the MANAGING DIRECTOR
From the MANAGING DIRECTOR
Welcome to the second play of our 2024-25 season, A View from the Bridge. When a classic play is performed by top notch actors backed by a world class production team, the audience experiences danger, sizzle and crackle! Master storyteller Arthur Miller brings us into the home of an American family who feels very familiar yet is thrust into some very vexing dilemmas. We feel like we’re in the room as the characters grapple with desire, jealousy and morality before our eyes. Join the Carbone family as this entertaining tale unfolds.
We could not have created this production alone—in fact we have been inspired by the support of our loyal subscribers and donors who have shown us that they believe in our work, which has propelled us to create some amazing theatre. Our director, designers (sets, costumes, wigs, lights, sound and props), technical craftspeople and crew continue to collaborate in new and innovative ways. We are proud to be a leader in our industry, operating from our little corner of the world right here in Laguna Beach, and we do it all for you, our audience. And now, we are once again gathered in the theatre to experience the thrill of live performance and create new memories together!
Enjoy the show!

OPENING NIGHT
NOVEMBER 3, 2024 • MOULTON THEATRE, LAGUNA BEACH
Welcome to Red Hook, Brooklyn. 1955.
Working on a play by one of the greatest American Dramatists is always a pleasure and a great way to continue our season.
A View From The Bridge began as a one act verse play that was unsuccessful. Despite its failure, Mr. Miller knew he had something, so he went back to work and revamped it into a two act prose drama.
He was right. A View From The Bridge not only had great success on Broadway in the new production of the two act version, but it has been subsequently revived on Broadway four separate times over the years — there are only a handful of plays that can make that claim. This waterfront story of an Italian American family has also been a staple in regional theatres for nearly seven decades with hundreds of productions throughout the country and the world.
Arthur Miller knew this world of which he wrote, having grown up in a nearby neighborhood. Besides creating a powerful dramatic theatrical work that shined a light on the specific human condition of these individuals and community, he was inspired by events happening in the larger context of America. The McCarthy era was coming to a close at the end of 1954, and it had touched many of the friends and colleagues he knew. Some of this play was sparked by the behavior of some of his so called “friends.”
A classic drama of this stature requires a brilliant group of artists to make it shine. I am so fortunate to have an incredible cast of talented and skilled actors and designers to bring this world to life. Our theatrical art form is so dependent on a team working together toward a common goal and this company has been a joy to work with. I am grateful to each of them.
Thank you for joining us.

Laguna Playhouse is proud to offer youth acting and theatre classes in conjunction with our fall and spring Youth Theatre productions. Acting classes at the Laguna Playhouse nurture students ages 4-19 in learning professional skills that will guide them to success in theatre and life.
In Conservatory, students ages 9 to 19 learn important acting techniques and methods that are later utilized in full-scale youth productions. With six levels, the conservatory program is for passionate individuals who have a desire to learn professional skills, have fun, and explore their creative voices with other committed students.
We are thrilled to also be offering Junior Conservatory Classes for students ages 4 to 9 on Saturday mornings. Each Junior Conservatory session is based on a fun and exciting theme!
In addition to our youth conservatory classes, we offer monthly workshops throughout the school year.
