It is important to select the right wedding cake designer to make sure your dream wedding cake will become a reality and taste as good as it looks! First, research all of your options and see who your other vendors recommend; look at their website and Facebook galleries and read reviews from past brides. Look to see if you like their style and if they can create what you have in mind. Making a wedding cake is far more involved than just frosting and decorations. A hand-tailored couture cake is typically a personal and intimate experience that takes many hours to bring it to life, so it is important to find someone you “click” with and who really grasps your wedding and personal style. The end result will be a wedding cake that is a custom work of art, hand-crafted and designed to reflect you.

3. When is the best time to plan a tasting and book my cake? After booking the venue or about 6-9 months prior to the wedding, it is time to design the cake. It is best to not wait to schedule your tasting and consult in order to assure that you LOVE your wedding cake! If you will not be visiting the destination wedding location until the event, I suggest booking with the designer of your choice early in the planning stages. This is where plenty of phone and Skype conversations, research, reviews and trust comes in. In many cases, the wedding cake is booked before a tasting has even been done. Bakers are limited to the number of orders they can take in a wedding season and do fill up quickly, especially if it is a destination wedding area.

2. How does the designer gather inspiration for the cake? Cake designers gather inspiration from all of the planned wedding elements, such as the details of the gown, the invitation design and flowers and decorations from the centerpiece arrangements. Think about the mood and feel that you are going after too; is your wedding romantic, natural, small and intimate, or refreshing, crisp, fun, and colorful? Combine your wedding style and tone with your own personal style and preferences and viola!
