LAFARGE CANADA INC. WESTERN CANADA & the PACIFIC NORTHWEST SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – FAQs Please read through the following FAQs before completing the scholarship application.

1. What is the Lafarge Canada Scholarship Program? The Lafarge Canada Scholarship Program was established to encourage academic excellence and the pursuit of postsecondary education amongst the children of Lafarge Canada Inc. employees in Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest. We see this as an investment in our children’s futures and another way we support and care for our employees.

2. Am I eligible to apply for the scholarship? To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be the natural, foster, step or adoptive child, who is under the age of 25 years old, of an eligible employee(s). Eligible employee(s) have been defined as a permanent, active fulltime or part-time employee of the Company or its wholly-owned subsidiaries. Eligible employees also include those who are on lay-off as a result of lack of work and those who are off work as a result of disability or death. Children of members of the Western Canadian Executive Committee are excluded from applying to this Program.

3. How much money does the scholarship offer? The scholarship offers a maximum value of $16,000 towards a four-year post-secondary program which breaks down to $4,000 per year of study.

4. What expenses does the scholarship cover? The scholarship money can only be used for tuition and related expenses (including fees, books, supplies and equipment required for courses of instruction) required by the post-secondary institution.

5. When is the deadline for submitting an application? A complete scholarship package including application and other required documentation must be received by the Company, no later than January 31, 2023.

6. Can I apply for the scholarship if I am already attending college? Yes, the program is open to students in their final year of high school and those who have graduated from high school and are planning to attend a post-secondary program for the 2023 – 2024 school year.

7. Do I need to have a specific GPA to apply? Applicants are required to have at least a 2.7 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent.

8. Can I apply for the scholarship if my sibling(s) won in previous years? Yes, you are eligible to apply for and win the scholarship. The scholarship recipients are selected by the Scholarship Committee. Since all of the applications are submitted to the Scholarship Committee anonymously (the student’s name, location and other identifying factors are removed from the applications before they are judged), each applicant is considered on their merits alone.

LAFARGE CANADA INC. WESTERN CANADA & the PACIFIC NORTHWEST SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – FAQs 9. How many people are awarded the scholarship? A maximum of four students will win the scholarship annually. In addition, up to four alternates will be chosen in the event that a winner declines the award or fails to meet the requirements to continue receiving the award.

10. How are the scholarship winners selected and when will they be informed? Selections will be made by the Scholarship Committee which is comprised by four members – three of whom are faculty or staff members at post-secondary institutions and one Lafarge Western Canada Executive Committee member. Recipients will be selected based on: high school grades, character recommendation, work experience and/or extra-curricular activities, and the two essays describing the student’s educational/career goals and volunteering experience. The recipients will be announced by May 1, 2023.

11. Who should write my letters of reference? One letter of recommendation is required and must come from an instructor who has taught you in an academic subject within two years of the date of the application.

12. What instructions should I give to the person writing my letter of recommendation?

Contact the individual and ask if he/she will write a letter of recommendation commenting on your motivation, ability, potential and character. Inform the individual that they can email their letter of recommendation to support your application directly to: wcan-scholarship@lafarge.com 13. Do I have to have my application, letter of reference, transcript and essays in by the deadline? Yes, all components of the application must be submitted by the deadline.

Please review the required documentation listing on the final page of the application to ensure that you have included all of the required materials. All documents can be emailed to wcan-scholarship@lafarge.com. Students currently enrolled in post-secondary school should provide copies of their final high school transcript as well as their current college or university transcript.

14. How do I submit my application? Applications can be submitted via google forms. All documents that must be submitted outside of the application form can be emailed to wcan-scholarship@lafarge.com. Company contact information for the submissions can be found at the end of the application form.
