LAFARGE CANADA INC. WESTERN CANADA & the PACIFIC NORTHWEST SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – FAQs Please read through the following FAQs before completing the scholarship application. 1. What is the Lafarge Canada Scholarship Program? The Lafarge Canada Scholarship Program was established to encourage academic excellence and the pursuit of postsecondary education amongst the children of Lafarge Canada Inc. employees in Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest. We see this as an investment in our children’s futures and another way we support and care for our employees. 2. Am I eligible to apply for the scholarship? To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be the natural, foster, step or adoptive child, who is under the age of 25 years old, of an eligible employee(s). Eligible employee(s) have been defined as a permanent, active fulltime or part-time employee of the Company or its wholly-owned subsidiaries. Eligible employees also include those who are on lay-off as a result of lack of work and those who are off work as a result of disability or death. Children of members of the Western Canadian Executive Committee are excluded from applying to this Program. 3. How much money does the scholarship offer? The scholarship offers a maximum value of $16,000 towards a four-year post-secondary program which breaks down to $4,000 per year of study. 4. What expenses does the scholarship cover? The scholarship money can only be used for tuition and related expenses (including fees, books, supplies and equipment required for courses of instruction) required by the post-secondary institution. 5. When is the deadline for submitting an application? A complete scholarship package including application and other required documentation must be received by the Company, no later than January 31, 2023. 6. Can I apply for the scholarship if I am already attending college? Yes, the program is open to students in their final year of high school and those who have graduated from high school and are planning to attend a post-secondary program for the 2023 – 2024 school year. 7. Do I need to have a specific GPA to apply? Applicants are required to have at least a 2.7 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent. 8. Can I apply for the scholarship if my sibling(s) won in previous years? Yes, you are eligible to apply for and win the scholarship. The scholarship recipients are selected by the Scholarship Committee. Since all of the applications are submitted to the Scholarship Committee anonymously (the student’s name, location and other identifying factors are removed from the applications before they are judged), each applicant is considered on their merits alone.
