BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Dear Friend, Gary—a veteran and single dad. Jeanette—a young woman who aged out of the foster care system. Gabby, Julian, and Alexandria—three teens who lost their mom and are under their big sister’s care. Each of the residents and clients at LA Family Housing has a unique story. You helped us share those stories, and together, with your support, we have led more than 6,000 people home during 2012 and 2013.

As part of United Way’s local Home for Good collaborative, as well as the national 100,000 Homes campaign, our efforts to end chronic homelessness for veterans have been met with great success. One strategy in this effort is the increased development of permanent supportive housing (PSH). With the opening of our new Trudy and Norman Louis Apartments (previously known as Day Street), 50 chronically homeless adults moved into their own homes. And by the end of 2014, we will complete the PSH conversion of our Klump Apartments, creating more healthy homes for the most vulnerable individuals in our community.

Steve M. Brown Hoffman Brown Company

Even as we continue to build new affordable housing, we know that the problem is much larger than one agency can solve. That’s why LAFH collaborated with our community partners to launch two new coordinated outreach and assessment initiatives—the Family Solutions Center (FSC) and the Coordinated Entry System (CES)—to effectively assess and rapidly place homeless families and individuals into housing. This regional approach allows us to help hundreds of people beyond the walls of the buildings we own and operate.

Daniel M. Howard Lodgen, Lacher, Golditch, Sardi, Saunders & Howard, LLP

Thank you for your support in helping our clients rewrite their stories and achieve a better quality of life. With your generosity, we will continue to lead the way to permanently end homelessness in the lives of our clients and in the region.

“LA Family Housing kept our family together . We were living in a van, which made it difficult to keep the kids in school and find work. Now, we have some stability . And we have each other .

L E A D I N G the way H O M E t h r o u g h h o using We believe that permanent, affordable housing is the key to success for achieving personal long-term stability. In total, LAFH owns and operates 23 properties: 18 buildings of affordable housing, three shelters, and two buildings of permanent supportive housing (PSH), including the new 46-unit Trudy and Norman Louis Apartments (Day Street), which expand our ability to provide housing to the most vulnerable in our community. In order to increase housing placement and follow-up care to hundreds of individuals and families beyond those we house in our own properties, LAFH works regionally throughout Los Angeles to increase coordination and effectiveness in moving individuals and families from street to home. We coordinate street outreach teams, housing navigation services, and a network of landlord relationships to deliver the best housing solutions for our clients.

“My family has been in our own home for the last three years, and we couldn’t be happier. We love to watch movies and play games together. We finally feel normal . My mom taught us that no matter what we’re going through, we should not let it define our character.”

L E A D I N G the way H O M E w i t h ser vices & par tner s LAFH is committed to breaking the cycle of homelessness through an extensive supportive services program that helps residents become and remain self-sufficient. Once the basic needs of food and shelter are met, residents can focus on eliminating their barriers to permanent, stable housing through employment counseling, financial literacy, and linkages to mental and medical health services. To achieve those goals, we team up with neighbors, community partners, and volunteers. Nonprofit service partners provide professional expertise and specialized services while corporate partners and volunteers enhance services, such as facilitating activities for kids and providing hearty meals for residents.

This growth has also allowed us to help even more families and individuals while influencing best practices in how homeless services are delivered across Los Angeles. While proud of our latest accomplishments, we continue to strategically plan for and invest in the future. The homeless epidemic of today demands innovative solutions, and the proposed Campus at LAFH will provide them by offering coordinated on-site services, additional permanent supportive housing and community resources to create more healthy homes.
