Mattews Victoria Mattews, also known as “Vicky,” was born in California, USA but spent the rest of her childhood growing up in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In addition to being a native speaker of the Kingdom’s language, she has also become versatile and knowledgeable of the Kingdom’s culture and practices which she incorporates into her lifestyle and career.

She is an International Business Management Consultant, whose aim is to help young business owners reach their goals so that the process will be easier for them.

We spoke with her to learn more about what lies ahead for her in her career, and what she’s doing as a lady in Business …Read on below……

LINBIZ: Who is Vicky Matthews?

My name is Ambassador Victoria Matthews. I am an American Goodwill & Cultural Ambassador and I work as an International Business Management Consultant in addition to being a Social Media Influencer. For most of my life, I have been raised, lived, and worked in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

My love for Saudi Arabia has strengthened my language, and Saudi morals have been rooted in me.

And Vicky continued…. "My passion for food began at a young age, and I loved everything related to food, from tasting, photographing, in addition to, trying new and exotic recipes of luxurious and simple food."

Vicky pointed out that she started blogging food after joining a Saudi flood vlogger group, where she presented different media coverages and Instagram of some of the top restaurants and hotels in the Kingdom. With this experience, her creative social media career began.

LINBIZ: We can see you are an American, how is it that you speak Arabic so fluently?

Well, because my father was one of the founders of the English department at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, this meant that my family had to move to Saudi Arabia when I was only six years old.

He later moved on to be one of the curriculum developers for the English Department at Umm AlQura University in Makkah. I grew up in Makkah and loved the quiet neighborhood of Al-Aziziah where we lived. We knew all of our neighbors and we often visited one another or played with their children daily. This is where my passion for Saudi and Arab food began.

We converted to Islam within a short period, as 90% of my father’s friends are Saudis. This love has strengthened my language, and Saudi morals have been rooted in me.

LINBIZ: Can you tell us about your background, educational qualifications and achievements?

First of all, I graduated as a certified TESOL instructor from the Global TESOL College in Canada. Next, I decided to pursue my passion, which is online business development & marketing and that’s why I decided to get an MSC, Masters of Science in International Business Management, from the University of Liverpool, London.

I am currently a certified business Manager and Consultant. I have been named the first brand ambassador for Paris Hilton in western Saudi Arabia.

LINBIZ: You seem to have a fascinating relationship with food, is it all food or there is a special dish in particular that you love?

It’s not that I love food, but I love what food adds to our lives.

It’s what every family gathering is planned around, the most important preparation for every occasion whether happy or sad.

“I love the spices, the history behind different dishes and the cultural occasions that some of these dishes are prepared for,” she added.

One of my "really good" friends, Don Ahmed Mesawa, was the leader of the group and was later titled as the formal restaurant critic in the Kingdom.

Seeing how graceful, professional, creative and funloving my friend was within this group on Snapchat was what motivated Me to join and flourish in the social media coverage scene.

She added, "As a member of the social media food vlogger group I was able to cover different types of events such as closed tastings for upcoming as well as already established restaurants in Jeddah, awareness marketing campaign tastings, the openings of new restaurants or food & beverage shops, and cooking competitions, including the Halawani cooking competition where I was invited to cook my own pasta dish at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel’s Italian fine dining restaurant ‘Aromi’.”

Being part of the Yummy Jeddah Group was a great experience for me because I was able to meet some highly influential members like Chef Ahmed Mesawa, Ahmed Kaki and Amal Elias, stylist and culinary vlogger, who graces the social media platforms with her interesting travels and wonderful restaurant coverages. Amal Elias is also the first Saudi Female to own a travel and restaurant review application that provides us with key information to having a wonderful culinary and travel experience here in the Kingdom.

“I was also blessed to meet one of my best friends and constant supporters, Cultural Ambassador Wiliam Aycox, a talented social media language instructor, who makes learning English accessible to all followers. Together we have had the greatest social media coverages, red carpet events and culinary experiences here in the Kingdom.

LINBIZ: LINBIZ observed that you are a renowned speaker, especially when it comes to women empowerment and entrepreneurship, how did this come about?

Well, in the beginning, I was the Editor and chief as well as the food consultant for Jeddah Links Magazine, which was a magazine dedicated to the local food scene in Saudi Arabia. Nowadays, I am a professional trainer, and this requires the ability to speak to as well as influence large groups. I occasionally get invited to act as MC for special events or guest speaker for television programs such as Shark Tank on the MBC channel, where I was asked to be one of 4 judges of the different business models presented by 300 contestants.

LINBIZ: What are your plans when it comes to women's empowerment?

In this day and age women rule. It’s all about lady bosses and queening. My favorite hashtag is #queenssuportingqueens. It is my duty to pay it forward and provide other female professionals or beginners with the help they need to get ahead.

My goal is to give back to the place where I gained so much love, knowledge, culture, friendship and stability — the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

She said, "I plan to mentor more young Saudi entrepreneurs as well as small Saudi businesses.

LINBIZ: What’s your view on the state of the consulting profession?

Consultancy is one of the top 100 professions as stated in The Forbes Business issue 2021-2022.

People now more than ever seek guidance and look to professional guidance counselors and trainers to have both the knowledge and tools to assist them.

In my opinion, it's extremely important to be continuously informed and to keep studying, researching and developing our coaching skills to be more effective.

Organizations are now facing a variety of unique external forces: the global pandemic recovery, a technology revolution that compressed 15 years of innovation into 15 months, climate change making its way onto every CEO’s agenda, and unique global geopolitical challenges. LINBIZ: What challenges have you experienced since you started and how have you managed to overcome them?

Three words come to mind: courageous, inclusive and speed.

What our clients are saying is, as leaders, none of them want to miss the moment. And so, my goal is how to have the courage to help them do something they normally wouldn’t have done? To not only think outside the box but to actually believe that there is no box and no limit to their goals and objectives.

The inclusive is about us; we’ve come a long way in terms of the composition of our firm, but I think we’ve only scratched the surface. It's time to include everyone and ensure that all races, genders and cultures have an equal seat at the table.

When it comes to speed, it is so important to come up with new creative ideas at what almost seems like light speed, as competition is high and as we say in America “The early bird always catches the worm”.

It’s important to be alert and have the ability to make quick decisions and come up with solutions at the drop of a hat to stay ahead.

Client satisfaction and a job well done is the icing and cherry on top of the cake. I take pride in my work because I am a perfectionist.

LINBIZ: Describe a typical day in the life of Vicki Mattews.

Well, first of all, Coffee is life. The day doesn't start without a good cup of coffee.

Next is a dip in the pool as I love swimming and it clears my mind.

After that, it's checking in with clients and working on current projects.

LINBIZ: On what you've learned over your many years' career.

I think the biggest thing for me as I think about different chapters of my life is a notion of how to further improve myself? With all that I have faced and looking at what still lies ahead, I believe the greatest lesson I've learned would be to always be prepared because you never know what lies ahead.

I’m currently working on creating my own brand. But I won’t be able to give out any more details until the final model is ready.

One big thing I’d like to work on more is setting an influential example for other young business females on how they can contribute as individuals or as consulting firms to enhance both business and society.

LINBIZ: Let's look ahead a little. At the end of say five years from now as a business consultant, what changes would be in progress that would make you feel proud?

Seeing more female business consultants running their successful business development programs.

I’d also like to see us doubling our rates of innovation to help our clients create and capture value faster. That will mean demonstrating innovation and excellence ourselves when it comes to our capabilities, our teams, and our approaches to working with clients.

Modupe Omonze is a well-traveled fashion designer turned entrepreneur.

She studied fashion and design in the University of Trinidad and Tobago John Donaldson, and went to the U.K to gain experience in the event management Industry. or more than two years, we have been living in fear of something we cannot even see… the SARS-Covid or Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus. That is a very elegant name for a little tiny living entity that is measured in nano-meters - or in other terms that is 100’000 times smaller than a strand of hair. A virus is simply a part of a microscopic world where trillions of trillions living beings evolve, live, survive, do good deeds, bad deeds and die, just like in our humanly world. This is the world of microbes where species of bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa live in more or less harmony. It is true that we cannot see them but we can ‘visualize’ them only through special powerful instruments like normal or electron microscopes and their effect on human’s life is beyond our imagination.

In order to re-balance the fear of these invisible beings, let me bring you to visit the mighty world of microbes that intermingle with our human living cells.

Are you ready?

What do you know about microbes?

They are invisible tiny living things that are found all around us and are too small to be seen by the naked eyes. They live in water, soil, in the air and within living beings like plants, animals and humans.

Some microbes make us sick. They give us infections.

There is strong evidence that microbes also contribute to many non-infectious chronic diseases such as some forms of cancer and coronary heart disease. Different

diseases are caused by different types of microbes that are called pathogens.

That is how most of us learn about microbes, right?

We learn they cause us diseases and we become so cautious about not letting any microbes invade us and avoid all contacts with them. That is also how I learned about microbes a few years back at the pharmacy school in the Microbiology course.

I must admit it now: this knowledge has become outdated and belongs now to the old school.

In 2008, the Human Microbiome Project (or HMP) was launched and has become the main focus of collaborative international research projects that seek to better understand the role of these tiny living organisms that are all around us and most importantly that live with us, in our body, intimately cohabitating with our human cells, in peace and in symbiosis (we count on them and they count on us to stay alive and healthy).

THE BIG SURPRISE…

The human body is composed of approximately 30 trillions human cells.

Do you know the microbes that live within us out-number our human cells by 10 fold. This means our 30 trillions human cells cohabitate with approximately 300 trillions micro-organisms of all kinds.

It includes at least 10’000 different species of known bacteria with more than 3 million genes (150 times more than the human genes). The whole ecosystem of microorganisms and their genes is called “Microbiome”. Sometime, you may hear a different term, “Microbiota” that rather designates different species of microorganisms.

The quality of the baby’s microbiome depends directly on its diet during the first few days of life (breast milk or powder milk), the quality of the water and the surrounding air. By 3 years old, the infant will have acquired a stable microbiome of an adult, that will continue to change and evolve through out its life.

Microbiome is our quality of life Humans don’t have all the enzymes needed to digest food. Microbes living naturally in the gut break down many of the food, proteins, lipids and carbohydrates in our diet into smaller particles of nutrients that we can then absorb and benefit from.

Moreover, the microbes produce additional beneficial compounds, like vitamins and natural antiinflammatory substances that our own cells cannot produce. Antiinflammatory compounds produced by the microbiome also play a major role at regulating the immune system’s response to different diseases.

The quality of our microbiome or more precisely, the lack of its quality or its imbalance (dysbiosis) is the major influencing factor in the development of metabolic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, auto-immune diseases as well as for a poor mental health.

Today we are at the dawn of discovering new knowledge about how important and indispensable the microbiome is for human health and well-being. As a consequence, we have all to benefit from learning more about how to take good care of our friendly and closest ecosystem that is our microbiome.

How can we maintain a healthy and happy microbiome?

If you want your microbes to contribute beneficially to your health and wellness, you need to make sure you have more good bacteria than bad ones.

Varieties of fermented foods are rich in good bacteria e.g. yogurt, cheese, sauerkraut, kimchi, miso, fermented fish paste and much more. Almost every culinary art describes fermented food and use them in common daily meals. We call foods that are rich in good bacteria, “probiotics” as they are ‘pro’ or supporting life. The most well known of good bacteria are from lactobacillus and bifidobacterium families. Consuming regularly clean fermented foods will enrich your gut microbiome and support healthy digestion, good mental health and strengthen immune defense.

At some occasions like after antibiotic treatment or long diseases, your gut may be depleted from good bacteria and you may need to enrich it by supplementing it with probiotics.

When purchasing probiotics in the market, watch out for the variety of bacteria species and the CFU or its concentration (Colony-Forming-Unit).

Good bacteria feed on foods that are rich in fibers. Therefore, when consuming probiotics, it is recommended to eat more vegetables such as spinach, cabbage, beans. Foods that are capable of nourishing good bacteria are called “prebiotics”.

Specific prebiotic supplements can offer selected fibers that maintain and protect your microbiome.

Like a child, its priority is to survive and gain balance.

But growth comes at a cost. As the business grows and scales, it becomes increasingly hard for the Patriarch to manage it effectively, hence, the need to professionalize the business arises.

(Keynote Speaker & Communication Expert) I wasn’t always a successful businesswoman flying around the world, giving presentations to CEO entrepreneurs and team leaders (on mastering communication and body language for success), training and education sessions and mentoring billionaires. I was a mum, a corporate businesswoman, a wife, a sister, and a friend before becoming an entrepreneur and then CEO of my own company.

I would love you to stop for a moment and think back to when you were a child what did you love to do? and are you doing any of these things today? I know I am! To live on purpose, we need to understand what makes us tick.

What gives us joy and makes our spirit sing even in those seasons of life where things just don’t seem to be going right. In business today if we find what we enjoy and do more of it our business becomes even more successful.

I’ve worked in 100s of cities around the world with thousands of women attending my talks and what I have discovered is the 6 ways we love to self-sabotage as a professional woman.

And I’m going to share these with you today.

I have found once we recognise what we do to sabotage ourselves in business and life we can then start to take small steps to recognise when this is happening and change the outcome.

Your story and your mindset

Good things happen to good people; bad things happen to good people. Bad things happen to bad people, and so on. It’s the way life is. Use the tough times to build strength within yourself. You might not always see it but sometimes what you didn’t want or expect can present opportunities. For example, you might develop more empathy or more patience. You might become better skilled at helping others because of something that happened in your life. When bad things happen, you will go through your grieving cycle. But you don’t have

to make it the story that you live by. We can change these stories.

The Six reasons why we self-sabotage in the workplace and in life!

1. Because we don’t believe. We don’t believe in it (project /dream) completely, so we don’t do it. You need to sink your idea in your bones or you won’t feel it and act on it. The interesting thing is once we sink an idea into our bones and live and breathe it … miraculously it happens. I like to write my idea on a sticky note or get a picture of want I want and put it where ill see it every day. Truly live and breathe it until it happens!

2. We are fearful. This means we become scared to act.

Some of us are fearful of failure and fearful of success.

We often hold ourselves back when we think we are going into a situation that is outside our comfort zone.

We must change our mindset and jump in boots and all and take the first step. Go in with confidence and courage and believe in ourselves. Whenever I have an idea I remind myself this: FEAR: Face Everything And Rise.

3. Procrastination. I’m going to do this today, but first I’ll… You know what this is like: oh, I’ll do that tomorrow but somehow tomorrow doesn’t ever really come! Or If I don’t tidy my desk now, I won’t be able to make my follow-up calls … or, I’ll just check Instagram or watch one Netflix show, ‘Stop procrastinating! Make your follow-up calls first, then clean your desk, or do socials. Just do what needs to be done and stop making excuses … Planning stops procrastination. My advice is to Write your plan out the night before - no more than three things to do, then you can execute it the next day before you start the other tasks. Boom!

4. Not willing to fail. What happens if I fail? There is no losing only learning. ‘It’s not how many times you fall down; it’s how many times you get up’. If there are twenty coffee shops in the one street, you probably won’t do well in a tough time if you set up the twentyfirst. Don’t set yourself up to fail. Instead, do the research, then jump in, and give it your best shot.

guess what happens – what you focus on grows!

5. Don’t over-analyse things. Some people, especially those with the Controlling behaviour style, spend too much time over-analysing everything. Is it good enough? I need to change this in my report. I don’t think I can send it to them because of … Over-analysing can be a little like procrastination – you spend too long putting something off by asking yourself, ‘Is it ready?’ ‘Is it good enough?’ If you’ve put in a big effort and made it as good as it can be for now, then go for it. Stop over-analysing its paralysis by analysis!

Let it go and see what happens.

6. Multi-tasking. Doing many things at once won’t always work. Don’t try to get everything done at the one time. Multitasking is not something to aim for, despite the good press it has received in the past. It is simply another form of selfsabotage. We can’t do everything well all at the one time. You can do everything if you plan and take it step by step; focusing on one thing at a time and giving it everything you’ve got. Once I learnt to stop self-sabotage, I was able to show others how to stop self-sabotage too. Ladies in business I encourage you to see how you selfsabotage as a professional woman and STOP doing it! She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.

She is like the merchant ships bringing her food from afar.

She gets up while it is still night, she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants.

She considers a field and buys it out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.

omen empowerment need men for a number of reasons. To name a few; Men play a role in women empowerment.

Everyone plays a role in the empowerment movement. Women never really suggested that men were excluded. The best way to Give Back to society is for us men to be empowered and to ensure that our household has that same level of empowerment starting with our spouses.

To highlight these points, let’s take a moment to look at a set of written words that show one example of an empowered woman way back before the first century.

The iconic words in Proverbs 31 to a King. The Proverbs 31 Woman comes from Proverbs 31, a poem written by King Lemuel based on words of advice given to him by his mother on how to conduct himself as a king. This seemingly well empowered man was listening to an empowered woman on how to look at or how to look for an empowered woman.

She posed it in allegorical form by asking, “A wife of noble character, who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.” This thought of an empowered woman being Priceless was injected right away.

Today we place value on very superficial things. lets dig in some more to get the viewpoint presented of this empowered woman.

To me, the role of the man was to appreciate the independent spirit that drove the success of the empowered woman. This description show the resolve that this empowered woman was securing her household and applying her business savvy wisdom as a business woman. This in itself is a definite complement to the empowered man. if anything went wrong, like an illness or worst, the household continues functioning.

That women and men empowerment is a form of Giving Back to society. The strategy is to avoid the worst case scenario of becoming a burden on society. So if one part of the team is limited, the other part keeps the team functioning.

She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.

She sees that her trading is profitable and her lamp does not go out at night.

In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers.

She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.

When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet.

She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple.

Her husband is respected at the city gate where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.

She makes linen garments and sells them and supplies the merchants with sashes.

The empowered woman does not replace the role or task of the man. in fact it’s in direct reflection and inclination of the team’s goals. One mention I observed, in the above text, is the immediate results gained by the empowered man. When the empowered woman executes Her stance, the Husband increases his standing in the community. This came without impacting the movements of the empowered woman.

After 40 years of marriage growth, i have had the benefit of learning and growing. becoming more empowered while having room to join my spouse in her empowerment.

Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting but a woman…is to be praised.

SAMAN NAWAZ I am Saman Nawaz , a passionate female photographer and young entrepreneur basically from Pakistan , born and brought up in Ras Al Khaimah , U.A.E. It has been a wonderful experience in the U.A.E as it has given individuals many opportunities to showcase their talents and skills in their prospective field. I have been very passionate about photography, sports, and creativity.

START OF MY PHOTOGRAPHY:

My photography passion started as a hobby first.

I used to watch my uncle who was a personal photographer of Sheikh Khalifa in the U.A.E. I got influenced by him and thought that photography has a lot of scope. I used to capture clicks for my friends and relatives wedding events or parties captured in Auto mode. I was doing my Bachelor’s final year and also working as a full-time job. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, I lost my job and thought about what I could do to have an income? I straight away thought about Photography. I did my photography course online from Udemy and gained a lot of knowledge on how the camera works. I made my Instagram page and started posting some of the clicks.

One day, in the year 2020, there was a story on Instagram where they required a female photographer for a small event at home. I didn’t hesitate and I approached them that I am ready to go ahead with it as it would be my first event.

I have also met bloggers like Mom_In_Dubai and Dina.

isha Yusuf is a service-oriented professional with extensive experience in administration, marketing & client relationship management. She acquired a B.Sc in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Maiduguri, Borno state. She later attended Vandean College Brighton, United Kingdom where she studied Word processing.

In 2005 she joined Abuja investment limited as an intern before moving to Abuja leasing company where she worked until 2012 as Head of credit and risk management. Aisha then moved on to start her event planning & management company called Emirati Innovative services.

The company later grew to include 2 sister companies in 2017 namely Emirati Galleria; A fashion & lifestyle store and Emirati women Entrepreneurs co-operative ( EWEC) A women empowerment organization. The women empowerment organization (EWEC) focuses on offering skills acquisition training, Business seminars, Exhibitions, financial assistance and mentorship programmes for businesswomen. It also offers guidance and network linkages to help women run successful businesses.

EWEC has partnered with various government organizations and NGOs to train and empower over 2000 women since set up. These partner organizations include CBN, SMEDAN, Access bank Plc, Bank of industry, NTA Network, NYSC Foundation, WENA, Better Life Programme, LINBIZ Dubai, Connect the dots; South Africa and plenty more.

t that time, I was 22 years old when I started presenting my projects in the innovation club at some exhibitions based on my background as electronics engineer.

At that time people were mentioning me that doing all of this will waste my time and I have to focus on my career life instead.

I was one of the luckiest students were I given the chance to be one of the five students to be chosen regards initiating innovation club in the history of our university for first time. Being part of that club , I was able to present the club projects in different cities. My colleagues were very interested in the way that I kept presenting my assigned section of each project. Under the club name at certain level of that exposure and interaction, they were extremely proud and happy to give me the chance to present them while displaying the club projects.

Going through all of that, tickled my heart!. We can call it “passion”. Each time I felt that I want more and more, it encouraged me to jump into the next step and accept that I was given the life time chance in presenting the projects on the stage by my own.

I believed in my self, I started in developing my skills and learning from my mistakes as well, asking for feedbacks allowed me to focus on my strengths, and The most important thing was accepting random roles for different opportunities, up to date were I was selected by the university vice principal to be MC (master of ceremony).

To all youth people across the world “you are a leader, don’t loss hope, be as smart and as patient that nothing stops you from what you wish to be. you are unique in the way you are, just believe in yourself.

Now is the right time to think about my career life, I become a CTO-Scrum Master at Emirates NBD, imagine now I become a public speaker that focus on leadership, innovation, and positivity.

Let’s say after that I was thinking how I can implement my knowledge globally not such in UAE, so I have been chosen to be part of a project which exist in Spain, it focus on next generation, in addition I have been chosen as ambassador in emirates club.

And for you the one who is reading my page today I want you to know that one of the lessons that I grew up with was to always stay true to yourself and never let anyone distract you from your goals, also remember that challenges are what makes life interesting to achieve what you want.

My focusing now is on youth generation as they are the future of UAE, giving them training, being a coach for leadership is something really I am happy about it, and today it’s an honor for me to have several awards under Excellence in youth leadership.

But the above whole story about my journey wasn’t too easy to me, I struggled a lot my age was the first thing, secondly time management, today I am 25 years old I did all of this in three years, people will not be believe it which I don’t know why but I always say “ Gender , age , nationality it doesn’t matter if you have a dream to chase” , it was a tough for me to manage all of these together, but I always telling myself that life is a space of opportunities that we need to catch, so I never give people my back even if I had a tough day Remember one thing world is so small if you support people definitely the will support you back.

Humble Greetings Dear readers, it’s a great honour introducing myself to you and talking to you about the brand KAVITHA and all she embodies as a lady in Business. Without much ado, here goes…

I am Kavitha Laloo by name. I am of Indian origin but I was born in South Africa.

My first title is Momtrepreneur, a glorified position in my household and one which I hold so dear to my heart. It’s a great privilege to be Mum to two amazing boys.

I am also an astute and multitalented businesswoman with many Feathers in my Cap some of which are: an Author, a Publisher, the Director of an Engineering Company, a Philanthropist, a lady in Business among other enterprising roles.

I am a very ambitious and purpose-driven individual who is very efficient at multitasking effortlessly.

My aim and vision is to empower young girls to become Women of stature and encourage them to go for their dreams and aspirations.

I live by the motto “We are Creators of Our Destiny”

LINBIZ: What 5 adjectives accurately describe you?

Like I initially mentioned, I am a woman of many talents and so, it’s really hard to use just one suitable adjective to describe me, however, some of the most accurate ones would be: • Affectionate • Ambitious • Creative • Empathetic • Adventurous I am these and so much more …One thing I can definitely assure you of is that no one remains the same after meeting me.

LINBIZ: Looking at your profile, we can see you have so many feathers in your hats making you the walking definition of “an enterprising lady in Business”. Literary speaking, which of these feathers can you say is your favourite?

Hmmm…It's really hard to choose because I have a strong passion for anything I choose to devote my time to. However, My heart and soul has always been in publishing. It is safe to say; that I live and breathe Publishing. There is just this satisfaction and LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 44

In part, the LINBIZ: What can you say inspired you to open book is all about techniques and a tool, thinking like a your open publishing company? nerd is about understanding why ingredients are being used. To the beginner, cooking has many hidden rules.

I worked for a Publishing Company for 7 years, Learning them is not so much about rote memorization but I was very limited in my scope of work. Eastern Lifestyle is one of our many publications; the name "Eastern" covers a wide spectrum.

It is a South African-based Indian Fashion and Lifestyle Magazine.

The magazine is all about Promoting local and international fashion, lifestyle, Indian Culture, Indian Food, Bollywood Movies, business features and so much more.

So the goal is, the 5% of great stuff I see, I want others to read. That means getting the magazine to a place where there’s no doubt it publishes good work LINBIZ: It is inspiring that not only are you a Publisher, but you are also an established author in reference to your book: "IND-Spired, a cookbook for "nerds". What was the inspiration behind the book and why was it directed to Nerds specifically?

I’m so pleased you recognized that!

LINBIZ: We can see that you also have a solid background in the Science world, specifically engineering. How did you find yourself in this field and how has the journey been so far?

This journey has been very challenging but rewarding.

I started as a Supplier and Service Provider with very limited knowledge in the field, but over the years, I worked hard on improving myself and expanding my knowledge by learning all I could about engineering thus becoming more confident and more knowledgeable.

Having Been in this field for a while now specifically the energy sector, I saw a gap in the market and the opportunity for Independent Power Producers like Protech; an Engineering company in which I am presently a director. Protech has done so much more than just filling the gap we have become a household name synonymous with distinguished and quality service.

In saying that, I’m one of those over four million women who spend their day juggling afterschool activities, chauffeuring the kids coupled with the daily operations of a growing business. I swear I am wearing an Invisible Costume of one of those SUPERHEROS. On a serious note, my kids are always my priority, but I also taught them to be independent with little chores that they perform to make it easier for me.

They are my stress reliever most of the time, my lifeline, and my blessings.

LINBIZ: How exactly does Kavitha unwind and what is your idea of fun?

Music is my all-time therapy; It helps me to cope emotionally and mentally.

I have my weekly rituals at the Spa which I eagerly await. In my hectic lifestyle, I take the much needed “me time” To unwind and relax.

Having no intention of resting on my oars, I am Long drives along the countryside in my sports car is currently proposing to start up a Solar-Powered my ideal idea of fun. I love that adrenaline rush.

LINBIZ: At Linbiz, We are intrigued at how you juggle all the roles you are currently handling. Can you let us into the secret? Do you ever have to prioritize one role over the other?

I manage my time very effectively. I am a routine kind of person, I draw up a Plan and I prioritize the tasks within each role. I ensure that my Kids always have me whenever they need me.

It’s no secret; I just manage my work workflow diligently.

I work at my own pace but stick to timelines.

LINBIZ: Being a woman can be tough and being a mom can be extremely tougher, how do you balance your mom life with your entrepreneurial side?

Being a woman is very tough, and playing both roles as mum and dad is tougher. I am recently widowed so it’s a huge challenge in terms of being this single parent overseeing everything, from finances to running a business and being that support structure.

With God's Grace, I am playing my role with pride and joy.

LINBIZ: You are very much active in the philanthropic space, what inspired you to give Be the best version of yourself. Always be humble and back and what are the plans in this regard for respect everyone.

LOVE ALL – SERVE ALL the future?

I always live by the words “ Hands that serve are holier than lips that pray.” Baba A well-known proverb that can be put into action and is easy to understand.

I believe that God blessed us financially to help others in need. I have many projects close to my heart but choose to stay out of the limelight when these charity drives are executed.

My plans and when GOD wills it through enough funding, I wish to open up a Care Centre for the Abandoned Aged. This will be a home where they are not abused emotionally or physically, A place, they will call home feel safe and loved.

It’s so sad to see them lonely and forgotten.

LINBIZ: You are the very apt definition of a SUCCESSFUL LADY IN BUSINESS, can you tell us exactly what success means to you?

To me, Success is not only about attaining wealth but being content and grateful for what I achieved in life. I had to face many challenges to get where I am today, so I appreciate and treasure each milestone I had to endure.

rowing up in a decent living religious family, I always believed that GOD is just in the corner.

Being exhibited with altars and crucifixes all over the place and prayed daily. Always being entertained and pampered by both parents and doing their best to provide for our needs. I have a great life where my Spirit is filled with GOD’s word and always being guided in the right direction through a loving family that celebrates Christmas yearly altogether with happy childhood of observing feast and thanksgiving while going to church every Sunday.

I became better in my previoour company where I am the only Filipina among a team of 12 where I worked so hard and proved that I can always be better in my field until I was promoted and further moved to a semi-government company after my 1st contract in UAE. In that company, my confidence became greater as I was promoted 3x as I always excel in my role. But my body felt the weight of burnout as I forfeited my 2 years of leave due to the demand of my work and working for 4 bosses of course in the beginning I was proud until I lost my power to retain my dad A respectful daughter with a strong belief in celibacy passed away then I lost my dog and my husband and observing all the commandments of parents and left the country for good and after more than a church. Doing a great job in a school with high grades decade of real hard work of service, I was being and honour with special awards. redundant.

Seem to have a perfect childhood, until a crisis came where both parents lost their jobs, were evicted from the apartment, then bullying in school and friends follows and worst to study without money to pay for tuition. Therefore, I have to work at an early stage to pay for my school fees and at the same time study while looking after my other younger siblings. It was fun at the beginning to be able to provide for the family but I admit I struggle to understand my lessons at school due to a lack of sleep and rest but left with no choice. I once then felt that I did not enjoy my childhood due to my younger responsibility to become an adult for the family. Which I have not regretted because I have learned to become a greater leader since then.

This became my norm growing up to always be there for others until I graduated and flew to Dubai, UAE in January 2004. I was once on a visit visa until I realized that summer here is totally like a sauna, I was stunned to feel the heat during summer so I decided that there is no turning back I have a big dream for my family.

My Spirit was crushed, as I felt that everything went from highest to lowest. I thought I could only rest for a maximum of 3 months until I can find another job but the pandemic hit me tremendously but am glad I have friends who helped me survive and thrive. For the last 3 years, I struggled to find my peace of mind, myself until I realized that as I have always been there for others, I never prioritized myself… my health and my self. During these 3 years, I was grateful, I learned so much about myself that life is full of surprises that those you thought would be fighting for you will never leave you and this became severe when I have me and my husband has decided to nullify our marriage as I can no longer see myself happy anymore. This became an evidence that GOD is calling me to a deper, action.

That I have to first love myself as I neglected my being and lost His connection as I no longer pray.

Until one day, I realized God’s existence through these sufferings, HE is there in our pains, loss, hurts, this rejection and unacceptance from others. I never thought I will felt what He has gone through but my experience of being cheated on lied on, abused and used and even harassed was a manifestation that a real believer is when you accept your fate and still you will forgive those who did wrong to you.

SPIRITUALITY

I have encountered this knowing I have a childhood trauma of begging for love and attention because I always freely give this growing up. Until one day, I faced my biggest regret to tell my mom that I hated her for being not there for me as I was harassed several times secretly then I revealed to her as she was never had time for me and that cycle was repeated when I was never there for myself. But this moment was quite dramatic but we have both forgiven our expectations and unmet needs as she explained that they have to do what they got to do as parents of a big family.

My expectation was so high that my mom has to truly understand what I needed. This trauma has gone seriously to always protect others but only to find that I am that somebody for me as I thought no one is there for me ever since but my mom added that if we will be together again she will ensure that she will be able to show it to me.. Sometimes, things have to go very wrong before they can be so right. I went through chronic depression, anxiety and childhood trauma as I had encountered covid twice and focused on what I lost in life but as the weeks goes by, I truly understand why I beg for love and attention from others whereas the love language that I was looking for is just available within me that I have to let myself be free from expectations and I have to be there for myself always. I have understood the value of selfcare. To always be there for yourself while you are praying to God for deeper faith and that His will be done as HE is there always for us when you call out to Him. Thanks GOD for saving me. I have to rest, have fun and enjoy life. Never worry for tomorrow but stay closer to the Father. Jesus was too was not spared from difficulty, from loneliness, from misunderstood, disappointed, wanted to give up, tempted, This is when GOD wanted you to be like Him. GOD is within us. It is all up to us if we will answer His calling.

True self discovery will truly bring out the best in you.

Surrendering everything to GOD and have faith and thank YOU God for all the trials as it will bring light to our darkness. I am saved. I am forgiven. I am loved.

If you are single , you definitely have an understanding of the pressures and disapproval of being a singleton in an African setting, especially the west. Talking about being unmarried from the late 20s to late 30s.

You experience these pressures from within, family quest to show you off especially settling with big shot kind of name, friends who rate you based on marital status, the lack of workplace benefits and sometimes the system that brings its pressure, many almost experiencing a quarter life crisis.

What nobody shares is the pain many married people engage in after saying I DO, the unwritten law of Murphy (The pressure to get married comes with the pain to remain married) which has put many in despair and disdain,the silent war of deep pain, the love lust emotions that they carry on dailies, the shattered dreams of when I get married I would have the best of marriage like the happily ever after kind of story. The pain in some marriages feels better than the pressure to be called unmarried so the cycle continues with the search to find an attaché (partner) to be called into marriage.

n IWD this year instead of being excited about the potential for change a room full of women would bring I had a district feeling of “de ja vu”.

We all know the disappointing statistics on women in political leadership positions and even those these numbers are slowly increasing the fact is that it will take many years for these numbers to be at the point that we have a truly diverse perspective at the leadership table of our most powerful positions.

Research says the reasons range from a lack of confidence, the preselection process, limited funding, childcare options, and the political culture. If you delve deeper the research suggested there are two major reasons for women’s underrepresentation. First is “election aversion,’’ or women just not wanting to run.

The second is voter bias against female candidates, which, they believe, still exists. (2)

when i get inspired and paint for myself. Not as a job. After leaving this job i started working in the Food and Beverage industry. I worked as a Barista and went through months of training in Arkan Speciality Coffee to be able to learn all about coffee and all the different ways it's prepared.

Fast forward to December 2020, my life turned around. Everything i wanted changed because of 1 job i took. I worked with Lepure at the first ever held Formula 1 race in Saudi Arabia. I was on the accreditation team for two months. Two months of long shifts, mental, and physical pressure, I learned all new systems which was a big step for me. Eventually my hard work paid off, and i got a higher position as a Costumer Service Coordinator at Saudi Motorsport Company.

From an early age, I have been instinctively drawn to wilderness and have often without a second thought, embarked on exploring its vastness. Often painting intuitively, with a focus on human perspectives and insights guided by nature. My paintings portray an abstract form of nature, almost a distilled essence from a human viewpoint.

The painting ‘The Meditation” is inspired by the sky and the sea, a contemplation on the clouds, and the waves beneath them. In search of a tranquillity and harmony, through an everyday journey in nature.

Nature encompasses everything around us, from the cracks of modern life we see an overflowing of the roots and shoots of the natural world. Perhaps, it is time that we ourselves actively engage with the sky above and the miracles of the Earth we walk upon.

Art is that universal language that can cross that unspoken barrier and encourage each and everyone of us to ponder upon the bridge between nature and human harmony. Would it be too strange to say out aloud that nature forms an art culture in itself, one that we see as a pattern through the history of humanity. Each and every era has produced artists that have been passionately absorbed in the natural world. Perhaps it is time that we too as ordinary and brilliant as we all are, embark upon an adventure exploring the wilderness. As well as translating our perspectives onto the blank canvases of modern life, in the process adding to the art and cultural heritage of this expansive theme.

D

r. Pasqua is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in New York, United States of America. She is a board member of the New York State Board of Nursing and is a member of the American Nurse Practitioners Association. She is also a member of the Alpha Alpha Theta Nursing Chapter in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Pasqua works with children and adolescence with mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. She is actively involved in suicide prevention and awareness among the youth.

Recently, she read an article on how U.S. Muslims are two times more likely to have attempted suicide than other religious groups according to a study published in JAMA psychiatry. Dr. Pasqua states “Suicide is a serious public health issue and is the leading cause of death in the United States. According to the CDC, in 2020, suicide was among the top leading causes of death for individuals 10-64 years of age.”

As a result of these findings, she met with Iman’s from the local mosques to discuss mental health concerns in the Muslim community. When the community is under stress, the community will seek mental health counseling from an Iman and will underutilize mental health services from the community professionals.

Dr. Pasqua said, “To serve the Muslim community effectively, it is essential that mental health providers integrate religiosity, spirituality, and religious beliefs into treatment.”

She verbalized the importance of destigmatizing mental illness in the Muslim community and the importance of creating a safe space where parents

and children can have an open dialogue about mental health. Dr. Pasqua says, “I met with the youth and parents about specific mental health issues. This was lacking in our community.”

In the community, individuals were hesitant regarding medications for anxiety/depression when therapy was not effective. Dr. Pasqua was able to draw from the hadiths to encourage seeking help with a trusted professional to alleviate symptoms. She would refer to hadiths such as “There is no disease that Allah has created, except that he also created it’s treatment (Suhih al Bukhar). This in turn created ease in discussing treatment options that once were prohibited to speak about.

which assisted to de-stigmatize mental health. She created an open dialogue by creating a trusting environment that was safe for teens/children and parents to openly discuss about their mental health struggles. Dr. Pasqua states “It creates trust which is fundamental to the therapeutic process.”

Dr. Pasqua sees the impact of social media on our youth. “Children/Teenagers are spending hours daily on social media apps. The obsession with checking likes and comments are contributing to depression, social withdrawal, eating disorders and anxiety in our youth. It’s the first thing they look at when they wake up and then some take their phone to bed which contributes to sleep issues.” “We discuss these issues openly and come up with plans to be social in real life and not in a virtual world. “It impacts their mental health and isolates them from family/friends.”

The focus is on spirituality, faith, and mental health. Discussions with the adolescents and teens focus on ways to deal with depression and anxiety utilizing lessons from the Quran and Sunnah.

Dr. Pasqua also educates other mental health professionals.

Recently she spoke at an International Nursing Conference, Dubai, UAE, December 15-17, 2020, on Self-Harm in Adolescents: Treatment Strategies. And on January 30, 2021, she presented on the mental health effects of covid on health care professionals in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Her future endeavors are centered around creating a Muslim Wellness Center in mosques across the United States. This center will include therapists, social workers, and prescribing practitioners. She also will like to implement mental wellness in Sunday school curriculums in the mosques.

Dr. Pasqua believes “The community will be able to get counseling, psychiatric and psychological support rooted in Islamic principles. In addition, there will be youth groups on coping skills, stress management, anxiety management and parent groups.”

Lastly, Dr. Pasqua is enamored with the Middle East.

Dubai entrepreneurs, business executives and women leaders gathered together under the leadership of Nousheen Mukhtar to witness commendable progress by women in various sectors. The event was organized in Double Tree by Hilton Al Jaddaf on 3rd of June 2022 to acknowledge the efforts of women in major industries including technology, sustainability, green energy, retail, CSR, business development, innovation, fashion, medicine, healthcare and more. It was primarily an awards ceremony held under the brand name of Nousheen Mukhtar International a PR agency with a difference.

The ceremony was chaired by the ambassador of Moldova, H.E. Victor Haruta and ambassador of Commonwealth of Dominica H.E. Hubert John Charles. The ambassadors appreciated the works of women entrepreneur in Dubai in their speeches and invited them to work in communion with women from Moldova and the Common Wealth of Dominica to make a global impact with relevance to woman empowerment and financial independence.

Global Women Leadership Awards 2022 was about uplifting the change makers, dreamers, entrepreneurs and women who have made a difference. Women now account for 41% of the global workforce and control more than $20 trillion in annual spending. Predictions are that this number will go up to $28 trillion in the next few years. Being held in the UAE for the first time, this year’s event theme Resilience and Reinvention, was tackled by several globally renowned entrepreneurs, corporate leaders, celebrities, sport personalities and political influencers.

The Professional and Career Women Awards was introduced in 2011 with an initial five awards designed to recognize outstanding female leaders in the corporate sector. A decade later, and now in its twelfth year, the Professional and Career Women Awards has recognized over 53 women for their outstanding leadership and remarkable achievements with annual events held in Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Canada and now the UAE. The event was live streamed and watched across the globe. WIM had 13 judges from 9 countries, nominations from 26 countries and winners from 16 countries.

Dr Segera’s home country was also well represented with His Excellency Malraj De Silva, Ambassador to Sri Lanka in the UAE, Hon. Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle, Member of Parliament Sri Lanka and Hon. Eran Wickramaratne, Member of Parliament, gracing the event with their presence.

The latter shared his thoughts on Diversity, Inclusion and Gender Fluidity whilst Riza Muhammed, Chairman Sri Lanka Business Council Dubai & North Emirates, discussed Bilateral Trade Between Sri Lanka & UAE.

This edition of the high-profile event was held under the auspices of the Sri Lanka Business Council in the UAE and Equality Alliance UK. The event culminated in an awards ceremony.

Winners were identified across numerous categories like Law, Banking and Finance, Leadership, Education and Social Impact to name but a few.

WOMEN IN MANAGEMENT

Women in Management (WIM), a Sri Lankan organization founded by Dr. Sulochana Segera in year 2009, opened its membership in 2010 with an objective of providing a networking platform for women to realize their dreams and mentor women who has less opportunities to be successful in their personal, career and business lives.

WIM being a change agent for women organizations in Sri Lanka, took the leadership to address country economy issues by finding root causes. They started breaking myths that women cannot create concepts. They worked towards taking out women from the dependency mind sets to independent mind sets. WIM focused more on solutions than the issues.

At a time when Sri Lankan women were branded more as domestic workers in the Middle East and working only on informal sectors, WIM took the courage to use the educated and skilled women to highlight the professional and career women, both nationally and internationally. As a result, WIM became the first Sri Lankan women organization to export its brand to global, advocating and branding Sri Lankan women for their multitude of talents and successes.
