When doing so, we use nothing but high-quality ingredients and rely on sustainable production processes. In line with our objective of achieving premium quality, we have been developing our products in accordance with the highest standards and based on the principles of the international “Guidelines on Good Manufacturing Practices” for more than half a century, continuously incorporating the latest findings and innovations into our production activities.

What is the significance of in-house research and development compared to when they are outsourced?
Dr. Ader: Freedom – you can do what you want. And creativity – the option of also trying out crazier ideas that might just become the next big thing. What’s more, there’s the chance to achieve perfection, whereas external development contracts involve limitations when it comes to the number of possible modifications. In contrast, when developing a new shampoo base, we were able to produce 109 different variants before finding the ideal solution, which was then introduced to our product range. This would not have been possible with external development activities.
Do La Biosthétique’s internal research and development activities make it stand out from the rest of the market?
Dr. Ader: We do indeed have a certain special standing. There are, of course, several large corporations with outstanding research and development activities, but they also have different requirements because most of their developments need to be suitable for mass production in the future. This limitation doesn’t apply to us; we focus on creating professional prod-

ucts, and the mass market is irrelevant to our work. When you compare us to other medium-sized companies, our Culture of Beauty stands out. Having our own laboratory that develops care products for both the hair and the skin, as well as our own hair colour research activities, is truly unique for a company of our size.
What
makes research and development at La Biosthétique stand out?
Dr. Ader: A wealth of extremely valuable experience is the source of our work. After all, cosmetic development is first and foremost an empirical science. It is rather unlikely that a young company would be able to make better scalp care products than we do based on our more than 75 years of experience. Our research and development work also stands out due to our creativity and open approach to new ideas, which play a key role in our progress. A prime example of such progress is the encapsulation method used in Méthode Régénérante. Here, we have made use of
an extremely innovative idea, which has now been incorporated into our wealth of experience. Such factors are prerequisites when it comes to making really excellent cosmetic products.
Is the encapsulation of the edelweiss extract in Méthode Régénérante the project that makes you particularly proud?
In-house research and development mean having freedom and offer the opportunity to achieve perfection.
Dr. Ader: At present, yes. That said, I’m also still proud of our MMC hair protection complex for chemical hair colouring. Getting to the final result was an extremely tricky process. I am additionally proud of our Anti-Grey Elixir. Nonetheless, in our more recent history, the encapsulated edelweiss extract is a very successful development indeed.

NATURE AND QUALITY
Can you give us a preview of what’s to come? What are you currently working on?
Dr. Ader: One of our main focus topics for 2027 is Long Hair. We are currently comparing new active ingredients that are specially tailored to meet the needs of long hair. The Long Hair range is designed to support growth with its Growth Booster serum. It also aims to maintain structure and make the hair soft, shiny, etc. We have a number of great new ideas on how to achieve this and we are currently developing new concepts.
When creating our cosmetic formulations, we only use carefully selected, safe raw ingredients of the highest quality. We check their efficacy and sustainability with scientific precision before choosing the best ingredients for each individual formulation. What’s more, after delivery, every single ingredient is subjected to thorough laboratory testing before being used in the production process. We are particularly proud of the fact that 90 percent of the raw ingredients used in our production activities are of natural origin.

A cause for celebration among the media and film experts: The Jury Prize for the film “Sound of Falling” made history at this year’s Film Festival in Cannes. La Biosthétique accompanied the Berlin fashion label Kaviar Gauche at the event and helped to shine the spotlight on the actresses Luise Heyer and Luzia Oppermann and their stunning looks.
Historic MOMENT
A historic moment! For the first time in the history of the Cannes Film Festival, an award has been presented to a German female director. The prize from the jury headed by Juliette Binoche was awarded to the Berlin-based screenwriter and filmmaker Mascha Schilinski for her film “Sound of Falling”. The film, which is set on a remote farm in Germany’s Altmark region, follows the lives of four women who come from different generations but are connected by the same shared trauma. The glamorous award ceremony on the Côte d’Azur was also attended by two of the film’s leading ladies, Luise Heyer and Luzia Oppermann. Both of these special guests made a dazzling appearance on the red carpet with their beautiful white robes from Kaviar Gauche and beauty looks by La Biosthétique.

Johanna Kühl is half of the creative duo behind the Berlin-based fashion label Kaviar Gauche. Since 2004, she has been working with Alexandra Roehler to design bridal couture inspired by red-carpet looks and luxurious outfits for special occasions that capture all the attention at all kinds of events, for example on La Croisette in Cannes. What makes you laugh?
Children. And being so hung up on moments of panic that they suddenly become hysterically funny.

What are your biggest successes to date?
My son and my company.

What is your favourite scent?
Warm summer air on the Balearic Islands. Or the smell of the air after summer rain. I also love the scent of the Spa series by La Biosthétique.
Who is your style icon?
Iris Apfel – a simply brilliant person with a great sense of style.
What is your definition of beauty?
Beauty is almost synonymous with wonderful charisma. It comes from within, and no beauty treatment can replace this inner balance.

What would be a perfect moment for you?
Spending time outdoors with my family and friends enjoying a wonderful dinner. Or setting off from our weekend home early in the morning for a walk in the great outdoors.

An extract of beetroot and sugar beet is at the heart of the Méthode Hydratante effect concept. Together with panthenol, it supplies intensive moisture and binds it in the scalp and hair. In Restoring Lipokerine B Shampoo, the moisture boosters are complemented by a hair-active lipoamino acid from oat, which provides a soft foam that has a particularly gentle cleansing effect and rebuilds stressed hair. Restoring Scalp Lotion contains biofermented yeast extract, which stimulates the sebaceous glands to restore the healthy balance of the scalp’s hydrolipid film.
