FEED YOUR FACE
We all know the adage “You are what you eat”. Well, the skin is the greatest testament to lifestyle and diet choices. Elle McPherson’s own expert, Dr Simone Laubscher PhD explains why it’s vital to nourish your skin from the inside out. Soft, smooth skin, what’s in your kitchen can be just as important as what’s in your vanity. “Because digestive health shows up on our skin, nourishing your skin from the inside out is integral to a beautiful complexion,” she says. “Topical treatments (cream and serums) are important, because they treat the superficial layer or the epidermis area

Custom craftsmanship Katya Komarova is the Russian-born beauty that brings off-duty Parisian style to chic leather goods; the award-winning designer and face behind the luxury, sustainable brand that bears her name. Created with the modern woman in mind who desires her own unique style, what sets Katya’s self-titled label apart is its ability to completely personalise each item with interchangeable handles, colours and accents. From coveted micro-bags to bucket-style, belted dual-compartment statement pieces and more, the collection features a variation of colours, straps and handles so customers can mix-and-match, enabling them to create different looks every day. Born and raised in Russia, Katya graduated from Moscow State University of Culture and Arts with a degree in acting then went on to fulfil her childhood dream of becoming a model, beginning her career in fashion. During her global travels, she visited Thailand in 2010, where she met a local artisan who taught her to work with leather. When she returned home to Russia, she crafted a number of leather bags and posted pictures of these bags on Facebook. To her surprise, she started to receive orders. But it was only when a designer friend of hers used her bags in his runway during a fashion week that she realised this is what she wanted to do.
In 2011, Katya established her first label by Mosquito creating handmade leather bags and accessories. Wanting to further her knowledge and experience, she studied bag design in Florence, Italy at Accademia Riaci and only a few months later, she presented her first collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia. In 2013, Katya relocated to Australia for love. She launched her namesake label in 2014 presenting limited edition capsule collections. Today, the Katya Komarova brand is focussed on minimal, feminine, versatile leather goods of the utmost quality. Katya Komarova exists ethically and sustainably, producing limited quantities and using natural materials that are stitch-free, enabling every piece of leather to be reused, if needed. Leather is sourced from an Adelaide-based supplier who buys Italian leather. All Katya Komarova bags and accessories are made of vegetabletanned leather which prepares the material in the most natural way using ingredients such as bark mills, woods, roots, leaves and fruits. Katya Komarova mindfully manufactures in Sydney and works with local suppliers who laser-cut pieces to be assembled by hand. Prices range between $150 and $489. Handles and straps are $40 when purchased with a bag. More at KatyaKomarova.com

EXTRAVAGANZA
Thierry Mugler: Couturissime By Liz Clift Photo of Liz Clift wearing Thierry Mugler photo by Richard de Chazal
26 / AUTUMN 2020
“Fashion is a movie. Every morning when you get dressed, you direct yourself.” So states Thierry Mugler, who throughout his career has stretched the boundaries of style and imagination. Born in Strasbourg France in 1948, Thierry Mugler has had an astonishing career; ballet dancer, photographer, fashion designer, artistic director for the stage and MTV videos, parfumier and stylist to the stars. His sense of fashion engineering has thrilled and surprised the fashion world at every turn and his diversity is legendary. At the request of Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture he completed his first haute couture collection in 1992. Also that year he launched his perfume “Angel”. He created the music video for George Michael`s “Too Funky” and designed the wardrobe for “Macbeth” for the Comedie Francaise. In 2009 he was the artistic director for Beyonce’s “I Am World Tour” and designed her costumes. He filled his runways with an eclectic mix of stars and models, among them Cyd Charisse, Diana Ross, Sharon Stone, Ivana, Tippi Hedron – in Mugler’s words “personalities who know and accept who they are and fashion themselves accordingly”. I was introduced to the Thierry Mugler label by my dear friend Liz Parsons. She was involved with his photographic exhibition in Australia and was invited to his 20th anniversary at Cirque d’Hiver in Paris in 1995. I was thrilled when she invited me to join her. Mugler created a monolithic white set consisting of two runways connected by a spiral staircase with the star-shaped logo of his best-selling perfume Angel as a backdrop. Mugler showed an unprecedented 300 looks on a diverse lineup of models from every era, including legends like Carmen Dell’Orefice, Veruschka and his muse Jerry Hall alongside Naomi Campbell, Eva Herzigova and Kate Moss.
He showed beauty through the ages, from masterfully cut catsuits, glamorous evening gowns to a futuristic gold bodysuit. The show culminated with a performance by James Brown as confetti rained down on near naked male go-go dances gyrating on pedestals. I immediately raced to Place des Victoires and stocked my wardrobe. How could you not? The man was the most innovative designer on the planet. Mugler, who now goes by his real name, Manfred stepped away from his label in 2002 to concentrate on creative directing projects. His visionary excellence has been embraced by a new generation of pop stars and designers who he has influenced with his mastery of design, Alexander McQueen to name one of the many. I visited his first major museum retrospective “Thierry Mugler: Couturissime” in Rotterdam Holland. The tour which started in Montreal examines his visions for “metamorphoses, superheroines and cyborgs”. His exhibition showcases 150 of his dramatic ensembles. Designed between 1977 and 2014, the pieces demonstrate the creative prowess of the house of Thierry Mugler, which is credited with revolutionising the fashion industry, and particularly haute couture, with his theatrical designs. I was entranced with his comprehensive retrospective of his work, aligning garments, accessories and costumes together with video, photography and archival sketches. The exhibition can now be seen in Munich until 30 August 2020. I consider it a must-see exhibition for anyone with a desire to witness the masterful creations of a fashion genius. Meditation AND MINDFULNESS
The hectic pace of modern life, social media, family and societal pressures, and currently, a global pandemic and uncertainty can lead to stress and even illness. Experts are united in their recommendation for people of all ages to maintain well-being of body and mind during these unprecedented times. One of the most popular and adaptable means of training the brand to stay positive and focused is through meditation. Meditation is a tool to calm and focus the mind. Defined as a form of mind– body relaxation therapy, meditation can help you calm your mind during times of stress or anxiousness, improving sleep, enhancing relationships and increasing your ability to handle new situations. During meditation, you concentrate your mind on one particular thing, such as your breathing, sounds, body movements and feelings or a mantra (chant).
Even though many different meditation techniques exist, the general ideas are similar. Sadhbh Joyce, Senior Psychologist and PhD Candidate at the Black Dog Institute, a national mental well-being initiative explains: “While there are many forms of meditation, all provide for an interplay with the inner world of thoughts and feelings. “Meditation seeks to bring focused attention to the present moment with self-compassion and without judgement. Meditation is a well-established way to help manage common mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression.” There are numerous physiological benefits of practising meditation. “Meditation can bring the brain into a restful, restorative state,” Ms Joyce continues. “During meditation, levels of the stress chemical cortisone can drop, and individuals may experience other physiological
changes such as reduced blood pressure. “Those who regularly practise meditation may experience a wide range of benefits, from stress reduction, to improved attention and pain relief. Meditation can also allow us to develop meta-awareness, so that we recognise when we are getting caught up in difficult thoughts and emotions. This can help us to respond in a less reactive way to stressful events. “Recent studies show that practising meditation can develop neural pathways and build grey matter. Unsurprisingly, we use different parts of the brain and think in different ways when meditating, compared to when we are busily multi-tasking,” says Ms Joyce. Meditation can be done anywhere in just a couple of minutes each day, gradually increasing over weeks or months. For more visit blackdoginstitute.org.au

TOP 10 TIPS to buying the right bra
32 / AUTUMN 2020
Does the thought of going bra shopping or even putting on your bra in the morning make you cringe? Well, that’s probably because you, like many women, haven’t found the right bra for you.
2. CONSIDER YOUR SHAPE
Just as no two women are the same, our breasts are very different too. No matter what shape breasts you have, choose your perfect bra match using the guide below. Full busted / BRA STYLE: Balconette Teardrop / BRA STYLE: Contour Perky / BRA STYLE: Demi Cup Petite / BRA STYLE: Plunge and Demi Wideset / BRA STYLE: Plunge or Full Coverage 3. ONE BOOB BIGGER THAN THE OTHER? NO WORRIES!
While both breasts may look and feel similar, there can be a slight or even a noticeable difference between each breast – and that’s totally normal. For the perfect fit, round up to the fit of the slightly larger breast.
6. WHAT IS CONTOUR VS NON-CONTOUR?
Contour bras are padded bras that have seamless, pre-formed cups containing a foam or other lining. For a smooth profile under clothing, choose Contour. Non-Contour Bras are non-padded and mould to and flatter your natural shape. For no added bulk, choose Non-Contour. 7. BUY MORE THAN ONE BRA
Found your perfect fit? Make sure you get at least three of your favourite bras for not only hygiene purposes but for longevity too. Perspiration can cause the elastic in bras to stretch and deteriorate, so having a handful of great bras on rotation will help your bras last longer. 8. CHOOSE THE RIGHT BRA
4. TRUE SIZE & SISTER SIZE
So, you’ve found your perfect fit? OK, but what happens when you go to buy a bra, but your size isn’t available? This is where the true size and your ‘sister size’ comes in. To find your sister size, which has the same cup size as your regular size, go up a band size but down a cup size, for example, a 12c is the same as a 14b. The experts at Berlei are passionate about finding your perfect fit. In fact, they’ve spent over 100 years getting to know women’s bodies and discovering what support they need to succeed.
Here are the Berlei 10 Tips to help you find your best fit. 1. WORK OUT YOUR SIZE
STEP 1: MEASURE YOUR UNDERBUST Stand with your arms resting by your side and ideally get someone else to measure you around your body, directly under the bust. Ensure this sits as tight as possible. It’s best to do this measurement while you’re not wearing thick clothing. STEP 2: MEASURE YOUR OVERBUST Measure your cup size by placing the tape measure underneath your arm and wrapping it around the fullest part of the bust. Hold the tape gently so it is resting lightly on your body. Now reveal your bra size with Berlei’s online bra size calculator: berlei.com.au/ bra-size-calculator
FOR YOUR SPORT
Whether you’re walking, running or pushing it to the limit, the right support is essential. Yoga or Pilates? We recommend a low impact sports bra. For Weights, Walking or Cycling, opt for a medium impact sports bra. If you play Netball, Soccer or Football, look for a high impact sports bra. Extreme sports like CrossFit, HIIT or Athletics require an extreme impact sports bra.
5. YOUR BRA & YOUR OUTFIT = A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN!
Just bought a beautiful new dress but your bra peeks out? Or you’ve got back bulge under your favourite T-shirt? That’s because you haven’t paired the right bra style to your outfit. With this quick guide you’ll know what type of bra to wear with what outfit. T-Shirt Bra Outfit match: Your favourite everyday T-shirt. Demi Outfit match: Lower cut clothing. Balconette Outfit match: Low neckline shirts or V-neck shirt. Full Coverage Outfit match: Your everyday outfits, like crew T-shirts. Minimising Outfit match: Clothes that require a streamlined silhouette, such as turtleneck pullovers. Wirefree Outfit match: Just about any of your outfit choices. Push Up Bra Outfit match: If you’re after cleavage in outfits with plunging necklines.
9. ESSENTIAL BRA CARE
Essential bra care is necessary to prolong the life of your bras.
WASHING Handwashing your bras in cold water is the best way to preserve them. If you use a washing machine, use a washbag, set the machine to the delicate cycle on the lowest temperature and use a gentle detergent. 10. YOUR BRA SIZE WILL CHANGE
Just as our jean size can continuously fluctuate throughout our life, so can our bra size. We recommend getting fitted and updating your bra wardrobe every six months. More at berlei.com.au AUTUMN 2020 / 33

Truth is, we’re all completely struggling with our self-image and worrying about what people think.
W
ith abs that stop traffic, an entrepreneurial approach to her modelling career and convictions about social issues that range from human trafficking to reproductive rights, Emily O’Hara Ratajkowski, known universally as “Emrata”, is just the tonic the fashion world needs now. Born in London in 1991, raised in San Diego, Ratajkowski was a child actor in the Nickelodeon series, ‘iCarly’. She sprang into the wider public’s imagination after appearing on the March 2012 cover of the erotic magazine treats! which led to her appearance in music videos ‘Blurred Lines’ and Maroon 5’s ‘Love Somebody’. Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues soon followed and she then took to the catwalk for brands such as Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu Dolce & Gabbana and Versace. Her feature film debut was as the steamy mistress in the 2014 film ‘Gone Girl’ and she has enjoyed cameos and bit parts in several other movies since then, including as the idealised model-type in the Amy Schumer comedy-social commentary ‘I Feel Pretty’. Cast as the outwardly perfect woman, Ratajkowski aimed to show that even beautiful people can suffer from low selfesteem, disappointment, rejection and lack of luck in love. At the time, Emily admitted she used to react angrily to people who judged her by her supermodel looks and assumed she was one-dimensional. “Truth is, we’re all completely struggling with our self-image and worrying about what people think of us,” Ratajkowski stated. “Every day is a different day for me. Some days, it’s like I am the absolute best; I cannot believe I exist on this planet. Then other days, you really don’t want to leave the house. “There was definitely a period where it made me feel bad about myself, as crazy as that sounds, and it made me kind of mad. But I’m able to laugh about it now.”
“I think that confidence is about how you feel, as cheesy as that sounds. In mean, there’s so many different ways you can criticise your body, and it’s not just about what size you are, you know? “I feel like women, and young women especially, are just so hard on themselves and constantly comparing themselves. I don’t know if I see that as much with men, certainly not physically. I think that you really want to be the sexiest, the smartest, the most hardworking. And that’s great that those are the things that we all want. But it’s also important to realise we’re human beings, and you’re not always going to be all the things that you want to be in every given moment.” Her brand, Inamorata Woman, is the result of channelling her love of fashion and sexy aesthetic into an eclectic range in partnership with her long-time friend, Kat Mendenhall. The diverse and decidedly alluring collection is inspired by their Southern California beach upbringing. The latest addition to the range is the Body Collection lingerie line Ratajkowski calls “sexy and supportive”. As Ratajkowski explained: “From my standpoint, from how we grew up, all different body types were beautiful. No one was questioning how naked they were. It was just all natural, fun. Inamorata Woman is all about applying that same attitude to our lifestyles when we’re in New York. It’s that beach attitude taken to the city. It’s not about the body, it’s about the confidence, it’s about self-love.
February 2018, managing to maintain privacy and tying the knot in a New York City Courthouse. Wildly in love, enjoying a wave of success with her label, Ratajkowski is proving she is no different from the rest of us, facing the dramatic lifestyle changes imposed on the world under recent Covid-19 restrictions.
“I think the Inamorata woman is the woman who will wear a bra top out to walk her dog and not even think about it. She is confident and doesn’t care what anyone thinks.” In this age of celebrities documenting every moment of their lives on social media, and barely any secrets even if they eschew the limelight, Ratajkowski surprised the world with her wedding to independent film producer, Sebastian Bear-McClard in Credit Shutterstock
A passionate advocate for women’s health issues as a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood, Ratajkowski is a self-identified feminist, and not shy about expressing her own sensuality.
In an Instagram post, she revealed how time at home is making her slow down and appreciate the simple things in life. “Finished Love Is Blind (um, wow), ate two frozen pizzas w/ ranch, made calls from bed & took family selfies,” she wrote, promising there will be many more photos of her pup to follow.
Nobody could miss her deceptively simple, knock-out attire on the red carpet at the Vanity Fair 2020 Oscars’ After Party, although all eyes were on her svelte figure, not her outfit – which for the record was a white bandeau top and matching skirt from her own label, Inamorata. And a lot of midriff. She told Elle magazine that confidence was a lot more than what you see in the mirror.

With so many of us thrown out of our daily routines, working from home, home schooling our kids and having some uncertainty with our businesses and careers, now is an important time to have a game plan when it comes to feeling stressed or anxious. While we can’t always control the things that are happening around us, we can control the little things that can keep us feeling calm. HERE ARE MY TOP TIPS Meditate Being a meditation teacher of cause I’m going to suggest this. I’m confident we all know how meditation is good for us and how it can help with stress and anxeity. Therefore a more appropriate question is ‘how do I get started with meditation?’ At Soul Alive we put a lot of focus on guiding people through the usual challenges and hurdles people face when starting out with meditation. A big one is shifting how you approach it. Rather than treating it as something that you want to fix eg. decrease anxiety/stress etc. See it as something that you want to do. Are excited to do. Like eating your favourite meal. This simply shift in how you see it will not only helpl you stick with it, it will also allow meditation to do its magic and actually deliver on reducing your anxiety becasue you’ve dropped the expecation from it.
Still try and stick to your daily schedule
Journal
The impact of COVID-19 may have put our lives in disarray, particularly if you’re now confined to the walls inside your house or your financial situation has changed. It is natural for us to go into a state of shock and confusion, not knowing what to do next. It’s important though for your mental health to try and keep up your daily routine, you just may now have to improvise. For example, if you went to the gym every afternoon from 6 to 7pm. Keep that time for working out at home and search for a free ‘At home’ workout on YouTube. This keeps some consistency to your day and will keep the anxiety at bay.
Writing down how you’re feeling can be quite therapeutic. It gives you the opportunity to get things off your chest. Plus, you can really go for it with the written word. Don’t hold back. On the other end of the spectrum, I would also get into the habit of writing down what you are grateful for. Gratitude is the antidote for anxiety, as one of the main causes of anxiety is worrying about what might happen in the future. Gratitude redirects the mind from this fictional state into the thankfulness state of what actually is in the present moment. For more information soulalive.com.au

“I have interviewed many of our former patients, some from 18 years ago, to share how their surgery changed their lives and influenced their families and others around them. For many, it’s a multi-generational story with huge impact on children and grandchildren.
“I learn a tremendous amount from the community. It’s a significant resource. Especially at this time, when we’re all feeling uneasy and perhaps concerned about world events, connections and communication are vital.”
“One of our clients has had many years of success after having gastric band surgery 18 years ago. Medical devices have advanced considerably since then, but many thousands of people enjoyed positive outcomes over many years from the band, including this client who did very well.
For 20 years, Felicity Cohen and her team of health professionals at WeightLoss Solutions Australia (WLSA) have pioneered a holistic approach to supporting clients on their path to well-being. As Felicity explains “Weight-Loss or Bariatric Surgery is more than a medical procedure. It’s about addressing chronic disease and making the commitment to transform your life, turning your life around in in doing so, avoiding a range of illnesses. Morbid obesity is known significantly increase the risk of 12 known cancers, Type 2 Diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, heart attacks and many more medical comorbidities. “Our team extends beyond bariatric surgeons to dietitians, psychologists, nurses and support staff to assist patients on their weight-loss journey. We also offer lifestyle modification programs inclusive of mindfulness and meditation, or learning how to standup paddleboard and how to cook delicious food post-surgery. It’s a multifaceted approach to health.” As well as reducing a patient’s risks of contracting life-threatening illnesses, bariatric surgery reduces the strain on the health system, effectively saving the Government many millions of dollars. “As a private business addressing the chronic disease of obesity, we are very proud of our patient community’s successes, and of our contribution to alleviating the burden on the health system.” The next major innovation for WLSA is the introduction of the podcast “Wellness Warriors”, which will draw on the experiences and personal stories that have impacted Felicity and her business over the past two decades. “We have so many amazing stories from the patients, allied health professionals and others and those aligned to our vision of creating better health outcomes for all people,” says Felicity.
“At 53, she climbed the Great Wall of China. She undertook the 10km run at the Noosa Triathlon as part of the WLSA-sponsored team, running alongside her surgeon and anaesthetist. The really compelling part is that her decision to transform her life has impacted her husband, children and grandchildren as well – all of them making better choices about their own health and nutrition.” Another former patient, who now works with Bravehearts the children’s charity, recounts his own journey from trauma and being overweight to making the commitment to transform his life. “He realised his health was at risk and he came to us. Today, he helps others every day through his genuine understanding of how stress, anxiety, trauma and mental health can impact on obesity.” In another chapter, Felicity interviews celebrated Chef, Mark Normoyle who worked at the RACV Club in Melbourne for 16 years, among many other roles, and who is part of the WLSA team and provides cooking classes to patients. “Mark and I speak about food sustainability and which countries are making advances in reducing food waste. Australia is 20th in the world in terms of approach to food waste, whereas South Korea is really innovative. What can we do to improve our systems? Everything is tied into the well-being of our patient group.” Investing in her belief that “better communication and engagement are crucial to best manage health and well-being”, Felicity has established the Weight-Loss Warriors Facebook forum. “I learn a tremendous amount from the community. It’s a significant resource. Especially at this time, when we’re all feeling uneasy and perhaps concerned about world events, connections and communication are vital.” The Weight-loss Warriors podcast is scheduled to start broadcasting in May.

Investment Scams; Will they ever go out of vogue? Hazel’s story is a true record of events that will be familiar to many readers. Conned by a trusted advisor to invest in a dud scheme that went bust. Investment schemes vary with the promoters prepared to do whatever it takes to convince you that what they’re selling is going to be great. With today’s low interest rates, its hardly surprising that investing outside of the safety of bank deposits is attractive, and usually it will be safe. However, make sure you get advice from someone reputable and make sure they have professional indemnity insurance to cover the advice they are providing.
Hazel’s Story My husband and I engaged an accountant because we had a tax-free overseas income and expected a large tax bill. Unprompted, the accountant recommended we invest in a forestry plantation scheme as a way of avoiding tax. He showed us a brochure and spent time talking to us about how good it was. We decided to go ahead because we trusted our accountant. We assumed he knew what he was doing and was looking after our interests. Perhaps we should have checked sooner but, seven years later the scheme was liquidated, and we lost everything. Ginette Muller and the team at thesolvers.com.au specialise in assisting people like Hazel to fi fin nd the right advice in a timely manner. Hazel didn’t know she had a claim against her accountant – in her mind her claim was against the company that went bust. This area of the law can be complicated and Statutes of Limitation apply, so it is best to get advice quickly to
Craig X, the accountant who recommended the scheme sailed off into the sunset - not even a phone call. We ‘d never considered this type of investment before Craig X encouraged us. It was so frustrating and stressful! The money was gone. I realise now that Craig X earned a commission from the forestry scheme. Clearly there was a conflict of interest, and we were the losers. We should have pursued Craig X for his involvement but the Statute of Limitations prevented us.

3 Nail Care Myths •
U N RAV E L E D
•
CINDY BUTLER NAILS
Your nails are one of the first things someone notices about you. Whilst going to a nail technician is a great way to have them professionally done, there are still ways to enhance them at home. That being said, we need to file through the hype and paint a clearer picture of what is helpful and what may be damaging.
Here are three common myths unraveled: Cutting cuticles is good for nail health.
Your cuticle is the dead skin at the base of the nail plate which should not be confused with the eponychium (the living skin that at the base of the nail plate that covers the matrix area). Cutting the eponychium may lead to hardening and thickening of the skin just like scaring on any part of the body. Removing the cuticle allows the nail to breathe and stay healthy. Soak your nails in warm water for 10 minutes and push back with something soft, or just use a liquid cuticle remover to dissolve the dead skin on top of the nail. No cutting needed.
Enhancements should be soaked off every so often to “give nails a break”.
Providing you or your nail technician are using high quality products and applying them correctly, then there is no reason to remove them to “give your nails a break”. Enhancements are particularly important when using artificial nails as removing them can be potentially damaging. The continual use between visits will reduce cracks and other forms of breakdown. If you do decide to take a break and rest your nails it is still important to buff regularly and apply a good cuticle oil to add moisture and help seal the nail.
MANICURE PEDICURE ACRYLIC SHELLAC NAIL ART GEL EXTENSION
Never file back-and-forth on a natural nail.
Filing in a back and forth motion will not harm your natural nail plate providing the correct file and downward pressure are used. Speak to your nail technician when buying files and be guided by what they use. Be sure to use a file with a grit of 180 or higher and use a light touch with more strokes rather than being too aggressive. Avoid files with a grit under 180 on your natural nail as these will cause damage no matter what filing motion or pressure is used. Cindy Butler Nails Shop 42, Q Super Centre, Mermaid Waters. MOO MOO Acclaimed the world over, Moo Moo recently made the Top 50 List of the World’s Best Steak Restaurants judged by a distinguished food panel for a US gourmet title, and is regularly recognised for its menu and wine list by Gourmet Traveller. Moo Moos hosts an exciting calendar of events and ladies’ lunches for charitable causes, raising many thousands of dollars over the years to benefit local organisations. Renowned for their long lunches, Moo Moo offers diners incredible value and outstanding choice in their ‘prix fixe’ lunch menu, seven days a week: two courses for $49 and three courses including a glass of wine for $59, selecting from a diverse and delicious menu. Celebrating their 15th year on the Gold Coast and a decade in Brisbane, Moo Moo The Wine Bar & Grill is the legendary dining experience revolving around an award-winning combination of mouth-watering menu, ambience and professional service. According to owner, Steve Adams, who with wife, Autumn have grown the brand and the business to have an international profile, Moo Moo is setting the pace, moving into a new era of gastronomy with renovations, new menu and exciting new suppliers. “We are so thrilled to offer more than 20 different cuts of steak, a selection of seafood and many other options for all palates,” he says. “We have just added Wagyu T Bone from Nimbim, whichis Japanese purebred Wagyu, the Tajima strain, a 650-day grain fed beef with a marble score of 12. We also have the very popular New York cut striploin which 100 percent pasture-fed beef from Lake Flannigan, King Island, Tasmania.” Highlights of the current menu include Hiramasa Kingfish crudo, with coconut, cucumber, jalapenos, capers and lime gel; Free-range Chicken Scallopini with green olives, capers and lemon butter; and the delectable Hot Fudge Sundae which has won them legions of devotees. And while their dry-aged beef has earned rave reviews, Steve says the menu caters to those less inclined to meat, with some stellar choices such as Vannella Burrata cheese dish, lavish salads that are equally flavoursome, and long list of side dishes.
Commenting on the longevity and perennial popularity of Moo Moo, Steve says his passion for satisfying customers is what continues to motivate him. “It’s my baby! Awards, reviews and positive feedback from our customers spur us on to keep evolving and discovering new delicacies. We’re always aiming to raise the bar and keep it fresh, yet retain the staples that make Moo Moo special.” Moo Moo The Wine Bar & Grill, Broadbeach on the Park, 2685 Gold Coast Highway, Broadbeach. The wonderfully compelling and unorthodox memoir of 63-year old international model and iconoclast, @mywrinklesaremystripes Sarah Jane Adams. Antique jewellery dealer Sarah Jane Adams became an international model and overnight Instagram sensation in her 60s. Told with wit, pathos and charm, Life In A Box illustrates the deeply personal connection that we have with our belongings: they are laden with rich meaning and adventure and, above all, redolent of our stories.
In this electrifying sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, Margaret Atwood answers the question that has tantalised readers for decades: What happened to Offred? The sequel picks up the story 15 years after Offred stepped into the unknown, with the explosive testaments of three female narrators from Gilead. As Atwood unfolds The Testaments, she opens up the innermost workings of Gilead as each woman is forced to come to terms with who she is, and how far she will go for what she believes.
