We Represent You! The Hanover Park Park District is a separate governing agency established for the purpose of providing parks, facilities and recreational programs for the community. The Park District is responsible for the maintenance, operation and administration of parks and park facilities under its jurisdiction. The Park District is governed by five commissioners elected at large for overlapping, four-year terms. The commissioners set the policies for the operation of the Park District. Meetings are the second and fourth Mondays of the month at 7 pm in the Community Center Board Room. Residents are welcome to attend.

How to Print a Landscape

PROGRAM TITLE

Designed for the new or continuing student (age 8-12) who is showing a strong interest in art, this 4-week class will cover the fundamentals of painting sky, land, trees and other foliage using acrylics. Instructor Paulina Engel will guide the class through color mixing, composition, and application techniques. All materials provided. Please wear old clothes or a painting shirt. Wear your favorite pajamas while you enjoy the magical story of the Polar Express being read as you travel to visit Santa at his workshop in the North Pole. Santa will be awaiting your arrival at his workshop to greet each child, talk with them about their holiday plans and take his picture with you. There will be snacks available and a craft.

Are You Ready For A Show?

The Hanover Park Park District Susan Mattews Community Center Gallery, located at 1919 Walnut Ave. in Hanover Park, has approximately 50 running feet of wall space, and 80 feet when two moveable partitions are used. If you’re an artist with at least 20 pieces of art and would like to be considered for a 4-6 week exhibit of your work, please call Nicole Cox, Recreation Supervisor, at 630837-2468 ext. 138 or email n.cox@hpparks.org to request a show proposal application. Oneperson, two-person, and small group shows are also considered.

Preschool Preschool Mission Statement The Hanover Park Park District’s Preschool program provides a safe and nurturing learning environment to encourage the progression of socialization skills, motor skills, and emotional development while encouraging independence, self expression and listening skills. Our students are prepared for kindergarten through the learning areas of numbers, math, letters, writing, reading, colors and shapes.

Totally 2s & 3s Enrollment Procedure

The smart choice to get your little one ready for kindergarten. Students will learn about size, color and shapes, numbers, reading and readiness, following directions, time, listening skills and social-emotional development. Teachers will explore the alphabet, addresses, phone numbers and name writing with your child. Classes are designed for the child entering kindergarten in the fall of 2015. A graduation celebration will be held at the end of the school year. Class maximum: 14 students. (LB)

Registration must be completed at the Park District office.

The entire fee is due at time of registration. A copy of the child’s birth certificate is due at time of registration. Your child must be 2 years old by September 1, 2014. Upon registering you will be given a copy of the parent manual, emergency form, and medication form. The forms are due on the first day of class.

10% discount when the year is paid in full at time of registration. Installment Bill Fee of $3/month. (included in monthly fee)

The first day of each session is with parents. Parents will be able to see what a typical day at Totally 2s & 3s is like for their child. Policies and procedures will be explained during the first day.

Saturday Morning Series Run errands while your child(ren) have a blast Saturday mornings with our fun themed programs and staff. Snack and juice is provided in all three programs. When weather permits, we will go outside, please remember to dress your child for the weather. (LB)

Cool Treats!

Lunch and Learn Programs Sign up your child to learn about a variety of topics throughout the school year. Make sure to pack your child a lunch. This is a great way to extend your child’s preschool day or just give them time in a classroom setting. Children do not have to be enrolled in preschool to attend these programs. (LB) Students enrolled in preschool at Ahlstrand Fieldhouse will be escorted from their class to the Lunch and Learn Programs. The time for the program for Little Learners is 11:00A-12:30P and Pre-Kindergarten is 11:30A-1:00P.

Tuition is based on the total number of days school is actually in session per year. Fees are divided into 9 equal payments for the school year and will not be lower for those months that have fewer attendance days due to holidays (i.e. winter and spring break). Participants are not charged for holidays and days off from school.

A $15 non-resident fee will be charged at the time of registration when applicable.

Registration must be completed at the Park District office.

Phone-in registration will not be accepted. A parent handbook will be given out at the time of registration.

Included in the handbook is an Emergency Release Form.

This form is due on the first day of ASC.

After School Club Daily Pass Don’t have a set schedule or need childcare when something comes up, then this is your solution.

The Daily Pass allows you to purchase days and use them when you need them throughout the school year. There are guidelines that will be given out at time of registration.

Before & After School Club (BASC) Information Payment Information

Birthday Party Packages Make your child’s birthday party a memorable one. Parents relax and enjoy; while our party club staff hosts the 2-hour party from start to finish: entertain, serve and clean up.

The party room includes decorations, birthday party plates, napkins, cups, plastic ware and juice for the children.

All parties are for 10 guests; each additional guest is $8 for Pizza (& Games) Party & “Princess for a Day” Party and $10 for Safety Town Party.

Pizza (& Games) Party (6-10 yrs old) Create your very own pizza! While we wait for our pizzas to cook, we will play games and make crafts! $110/$125

“Princess for a Day” Party (6-10 yrs old) The birthday girl will be a princess on her special day! Guests and birthday girl will get hair, nails, and make up done.

Everyone will create a crown to keep! $110/$125

Safety Town Party (4 - 6 yrs old) Explore the town with your friends on your special day!

Birthday child and guests will go on a tour of Safety Town, have time to ride around and make a craft. There will be time for cake and gifts too. $140/$155 To reserve a party, a party reservation form must be filled out and returned with a $20 non-refundable deposit fee.

Final payment and number of guests are due 3 business days before your party. A two-week notice is required to reserve your party.

Little Gymnastic Star This class introduces the basics of gymnastics through tumbling.

Body awareness and balance will be developed through an “obstacle course” type set-up of mats, foam inclines, mail boxes, barrels, steps, beams, and junior bars. Open Youth Winter Break Basketball If you’re a youth between 1st and 8th grade come on in during our Open Youth Winter Break Basketball program and play with your friends. Whether you want to get some shots up or play in pickup games this is the spot to be! This supervised program will run while students are on winter break. Dates are: December 22, 23, 26, 29, 30, and January 2. We will also offer the open gym on January 19 for Martin Luther King Jr. day, and February 16 for Presidents day. (MD)

CO-ED Basketball 1st & 2nd Grade Come join our NEW 1st/2nd grade co-ed instructional youth basketball league that will introduce your child to the basic fundamentals of basketball. Players will receive instruction from hired instructors in dribbling, passing, shooting, as well as learn the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Starting January 3, teams will participate in a 25 minute pre-game practice with their instructor, then will play a 20 minute basketball game (two ten minute half’s). Games will be instructional and can be stopped at any time to teach the participants. Players will receive t-shirts.

Registration Deadline is November 7th. After this date, registration will only be accepted if there is space in the league. The maximum number of players per team is 10. (MD) Games Begin:

Youth | Sports

Youth Horsemanship Dunham Woods Farm is one of the Midwest’s premiere equestrian facilities and has specialized in the Art of Horsemanship for decades. Come immerse yourself in the equestrian world with beginning riding lessons. Gain experience in horse handling, grooming, tacking and more.

Boys Basketball Leagues Winter 2014/15 Come join our youth basketball league that will introduce your child to the basic fundamentals of basketball. Players will receive instruction from volunteer coaches in dribbling, passing, shooting, as well as learn the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship. Practice location, day and time are determined by the volunteer coach and facility availability. Each youth basketball team will represent a different NBA team with a reversible jersey that players get to keep. Players will also have a chance to compete in an All-Star game at the end of the season.

Teams will be formed based at the 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, and 7th/8th grade levels. All teams will be formed by a draft system. The head coach and assistant coach may protect their child (keep them on the same team). NO OTHER REQUESTS WILL BE ALLOWED BEFORE/AFTER THE DRAFT. Coaches Meeting will directly follow the player evaluations.

Registration Deadline is November 7. Please bring proof of Hanover Park residency if you have not signed up for a program since 2013. After this date, registration will only be accepted if there is space in the league. The maximum number of players per team is 10 for all levels.

Youth Inter Village Soccer LeaguesSpring 2015 Break away from the pack and join youth co-ed soccer leagues. The Inter Village league will provide an environment for players of all levels. Teams are offered at the U10 (3rd/4th grade), U12 (5th/6th grade) and U14 (7th/8th grade). Teams will compete against other teams from other area Park Districts. Each team will practice once during the week and play games on Saturdays. Players should register based on age for the 2014/2015 school year. Each player receives a team jersey, short and socks. Shin guards are required. Soccer cleats are recommended.

Registration deadline is February 20, 2015!

Volunteer coaches are needed for all Inter Village teams.

Boxing Academy Youth/Adult The HPPD Boxing Academy develops self-confidence and self-respect in a safe and fun environment. Participants will be taught how to perform better and get that competitive edge. Learn how to wrap hands like a boxer, stance and footwork techniques, defensive maneuvers, rhythm, coordination, nutrition, punch/counter punch combinations and self-defense techniques. Participants will be able to work on their skills in our boxing ring! Participants are strongly recommended to purchase mouth guards & hand wraps for the program. Are you looking for a league that isn’t like anything out there? Are you looking to play basketball, but have fun at the same time? Well come join our NEW and IMPROVED FUN and UNIQUE high school basketball league. It will introduce you to continue learning the basic fundamentals of basketball but in an exciting and entertaining new way. Players will receive instruction from our very own Rocky Robinson in; dribbling, passing, shooting, as well as learn the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship. Each basketball player will receive a reversible jersey.

Teams will be formed before the start of the games, and YOU may have the chance to pick them! This allows the players to play with everyone during the season. The season will consist of 8 practices/games on the same night. NEW to the league is a Skills Competition at the end of the season which is open to all players in the league and will be a combination or shooting skills, passing and dribbling drills where each participant will earn points. Every other league you participate in hands out trophies for participation, WELL, NOT THIS ONE! This league gives you an option to pick from THREE different places for a $10 GIFT CARD. WAIT THERES MORE! The top three competitors that earn the most points in the skills competition will receive a $25 GIFT CARD AS WELL. Grab your friends and come out and experience the new high school basketball league that will show you what fun and competition is all about.

Registration Deadline is January 27. After this date, registration will only be accepted if there is space in the league.

The maximum number of players for the league is 40.

We are committed to providing an excellent dance education to students of all ages. Classes that meets from January through May perform in the Spring Recital.

Dancers gain valuable self-confidence as they master new skills, learn to be part of an ensemble, and achieve long-term goals while preparing for their performances at the end of the year. Each dancer will receive a beautiful achievement award during the last week of class.

Parents, please carefully read the information packet you will receive at registration. It is your responsibility to know and understand the rules of the program. Both class fee and costume fee are due at time of registration.

Mommy or Daddy & Me Dance Is your little one dancing all around the house? This class will introduce you and your child to the basics of dance.

Seniors Winter Calendar 2014/15

Join us on Tuesdays from 11a-3p for activities, fun and friends. Our senior group is a great to meet new people in our community while playing games such as Poker, Kings Corners, Michigan Rummy and Bingo. Each week will have a different theme which may consist of games, contests or potlucks. Once a season we will celebrate yearly participants’ birthdays (that fall within the particular season) with cake and a gift. Fútbol Juvenile Entre Ciudades Unite a La Lega de fútbol Juvenile Entre Ciudades. La Lega Juvenile Entre Ciudades ofrece un ambiente para jugadores de todos niveles. Equipos empiezan de edades U10 (3/4 grado), U12 (5/6 grado), U14 (7/8 grado). Equipos jugaran contra otros equipos de diferentes distritos. The Centre Court Athletic Club (CCAC) is a community facility, owned and operated by the Hanover Park Park District. We offer the finest in services and facilities for fitness, health, racquetball and tennis for the entire family all at reasonable rates. Stop by or call us for a tour.

Registration Registering for a Centre Court Athletic Club program couldn’t be easier. To register, please stop by the Club front desk, located on the lower level of the Community Center or call (630) 837-6300 and register using Visa, Discover or Mastercard. General Tennis Class Information • Registration for tennis classes is on a first-come, firstserved basis.

• Students or participants must pay the full price of an individual drill, lesson or clinic regardless of showing up late to a class or leaving early.

• If a lesson participant misses a class, he or she may make it up during the current session with tennis pro approval only. Missed classes may not be carried over into a new session.

• Please call for information regarding USTA Adult Leagues, Junior Tournaments and Women’s / NITTL leagues.

Wallyball Court Fee Wallyball brings the explosive fun of volleyball into the competitive closeness of the racquetball court. Great party game for up to 8 people! For wallyball courts, the standard guest fee does not apply. CCAC only charges $3.00 per guest for any non-members of the Club. If you need Wallyball Equipment a $5.00 rental fee will apply.

Aerobic Studio This 2500 sq. ft. studio features wood flooring, mirrors and a state-of-the-art sound system.

Fitness Center This 2400 sq. ft. center features state-of-the-art resistance & cardiovascular equipment and a fully equipped 600 sq. ft. free weight room.

Handicap Accessibility The Park District and the CCAC are handicapped accessible and comply with A.D.A. standards. The elevator is accessible from all 3 levels and is available for public use.

Locker Rooms, Whirlpools & Saunas Club members will enjoy the clean and spacious men’s & women’s locker rooms, each with its own whirlpool and sauna.

Lounge and Snack Bar The central core of the club includes a lounge area complete with a big screen TV where members and guests may relax after a hard workout.

Kids Korner Service Kids Korner service is available to program participants who utilize the Centre Court Athletic Club. The Kids Korner, located next to the Aerobic Studio, is available Monday-Friday from 9 am - 5 pm (by appointment only).

Pro Shop A complete stock of the latest in tennis and accessories is available at competitive prices. A professional racket stringing & gripping service is also available.

Racquetball Courts The four racquetball courts offer hardwood floors and complete climate control for year round playing comfort.

Tennis Courts Our 10 indoor tennis courts feature the “Chevron Laykold¨ surface which offers a true bounce and minimum leg fatigue to players of every ability level. Four of the indoor courts are air-conditioned for your summertime comfort.

Refund, Cancellation & Transfer Policy: Please see page 42 for the policy of the Hanover Park Park District.

Court Reservations & Cancellations Members may reserve court time up to seven days in advance. Cancellation of court time must be made at least 24 hours in advance of play. Members are responsible for court fees if for any reason they wish to cancel less than 24 hours and the court cannot be sold. Members who make reservations and fail to show are responsible for the cost of the court and are charged accordingly.

Guest Policy Non-members who wish to utilize the tennis and racquetball courts are responsible for $6/ $8 nr guest fee. Non-members using the fitness center, whirlpool and sauna only, will be responsible for an $8/ $10 nr guest fee.

Monthly Play Pass If playing a lot of tennis is high on your priority list you can’t go wrong by purchasing a Play Pass. Reservations may be made up to 48 hours in advance, initially for one-and-a-half hours of tennis. If the court is available at the end of that time, please contact the customer service desk to see if the court is still available. Non-play pass holders must pay their portion of the court time fees. A valid CCAC membership is required to purchase a play pass. The play pass is available during the following hours: Weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Our “club membership” is an all inclusive membership that covers the three main aspects of the club; tennis, fitness and racquetball. Our “fitness membership” is the same as the “club membership” except it eliminates the tennis aspect of the club.

Membership Options • Family Memberships include husband, wife, and members of the immediate family who are age 21 and under and who reside at the same residence.

• Youth Memberships are available for individuals age 17 and under. Fitness center usage requires an orientation session for youths ages 11-15, at which time a parent or legal guardian must be in attendance. Any subsequent use of the fitness equipment by youth ages 11-13 must be under the supervision of the parent or legal guardian. Youth ages 11-15 will not be allowed to use the free weight area. The fitness center will only be open to youths ages 11-15 at the following times: Weekdays 2-6P Weekends 12-6P • Senior Memberships are available to anyone age 60 and over.

• Memberships are non-transferable and nonrefundable.

• Memberships may be put on hold for medical reasons.

It pays to be a CCAC member! Students with a tennis membership will receive the following discounts if the stated conditions are met. ** Each FAMILY can only receive ONE discount PER SESSION. If a family qualifies for more than one discount, they will receive the single greatest discount among the ones they are eligible for.

Continuing Session Discounts (10%): We want to encourage students to stick with the lifelong sport of tennis! If a student is currently enrolled in a class, when they sign up for the next session they will receive a 10% discount off of that session and every subsequent session thereafter!

Multiple Class Discounts (During the same session 10-20%) There’s no better way to improve your game than to play more frequently! If a student is currently enrolled in a class, when they sign up for a second class during the same session they will receive 10% off of that second class. If they sign up for a third class during the same session they will receive 10% off the second class and 20% off of the third class!

Sibling Discounts (During the same session 10-20%) Tennis families are happy families! If a student signs up for a tennis class, their siblings will receive a discount for signing up for a class during the same session. The second child to sign up for a class will receive a 10% discount and the third child will receive a 20% discount! *To get the sibling discount the students do not need to be signed up for the same class * All discounts will only be applied when students are registered on or before the pre-registration deadlines.

Private Tennis Lessons

Semi-Private and Private Group Lessons Get together with some friends and try a private group or semi-private lesson! This is a great way to share the cost of a private lesson while still getting individual attention to work on elements of your game. Prices are per person for a single hour lesson.

Junior Development Blue (ages 11-14): This 1.5 hour lesson continues to develop the basic tennis skills while expanding shot selections. We will focus on adding various spins, improve consistency and add more direction to our ground strokes while developing transition shots, correct volleying and serve grips and court positioning. This lesson will consist of instruction and fun, skill developing games with some emphasis on point play.

Class Length:

1.5 hours, 1 day per week (7 classes)

This 2-hour lesson will focus on preparing the participant for competition play, whether individual tournaments or high school tennis. We will continue to expand shot selection while looking to develop on-court ‘weapons’ to be used in point play situations. Technique will always be stressed and doubles play and strategy will be introduced.

Participants reaching this level should be playing at least 1-2 additional times per week (lesson, drill, hitting session, ball machine, play pass, etc.). This lesson will consist of both instruction and fun, skill developing games with higher emphasis on point play.

Junior Development Brown (ages 14-17): This 1.5 hour lesson continues to develop the basic tennis skills while expanding shot selections. Punch Card System Purchase a punch card at the Centre Court Athletic Club during regular hours of operation. Users must have a punch card on file or purchase one before using the Kids Korner. If you have an appointment and are unable to attend, you must call to cancel by 7 am the morning of your appointment or you will be charged for the reserved time. Participants must make appointments by calling the Centre Court Athletic Club 24 hours in advance. Staff will stay 15 minutes past your scheduled appointment. If you are running late, please call to insure your appointment. If you are a regular user of the Kids Korner, you may pre-book your reservation 2 weeks in advance.

Accessibility

Residents and Non Resident Rates A “resident” is defined as anyone living within the geographical boundaries of the Hanover Park Park District. Residents in Hanover Park Park District have priority for limited programs.

You may be required to pay the non-resident fee even though you live in Hanover Park because the boundaries of the village are not the same as the boundaries of the Park District.

Non-residents may register for programs for a fee that is 50% percent higher than the resident fee or $15 over the resident fee, whichever is the smaller amount.

Refund Policy Refunds will not be granted for class(es) missed or forgotten. All requests for refunds must be submitted in writing. Forms for refunds are available at the Park District office.

Refunds requested for a program prior to the start of a class will be assessed a $5 fee. A request for a refund after the program begins, but prior to the 2nd meeting, will also be assessed an additional prorated fee based upon the per class cost. NO refunds will be granted after the 2nd class with the exception of a written medical excuse with the fee based on the prorated cost per class and the normal service fee. Refunds for trips will not be given unless the trip is canceled by the Park District or a replacement is found to take the trip. A $10 refund fee applies for Preschool, After School Club and day camp programs.

The Hanover Park Park District, Centre Court Athletic Club and all other facilities are accessible and comply with A.D.A. standards. The elevator in the Community Center is accessible from all three levels and is available for public use.

Program Code of Conduct To ensure enjoyable and safe programs for all participants, the Hanover Park Park District has developed a behavior code. Participants shall: • Show respect to all participants and staff • Refrain from using foul language • Refrain from causing bodily harm • Show respect to equipment, supplies and facilities Additional rules are developed for specific programs as deemed necessary by staff. Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in removal from program or event without refund.

Bike Path and Trails Maintenance Policy Mother Nature will be allowed to take her own course of action with respect to our park district bike paths and trails, located at Community Park, Ahlstrand Park, Harbor Park East-West, Nautilus Park and Ranger Park. In Illinois there is no legal duty to clear paths or trails. But if an agency voluntarily takes on the job, liability may be imposed if it is not done properly.

The Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA) recommends that we limit path maintenance to a thorough seasonending inspection and documentation of irregularities, that we fix any hazards and that we post signs conveying the message that users of the paths and trails do so at their own risk.
