We Represent You! The Hanover Park Park District is a separate governing agency established for the purpose of providing parks, facilities and recreational programs for the community. The Park District is responsible for the maintenance, operation and administration of parks and park facilities under its jurisdiction. The Park District is governed by five commissioners elected at large for overlapping, four-year terms. The commissioners set the policies for the operation of the Park District.

Meetings are the second and fourth Mondays of the month at 7 pm in the Community Center Board Room. Residents are welcome to attend.

Preschool Mission Statement The Hanover Park Park District’s Preschool program provides a safe and nurturing learning environment to encourage the progression of socialization skills, motor skills, and emotional development while encouraging independence, self expression and listening skills. Preschool

Pre-Kindergarten

Totally 2s & 3s Enrollment Procedure

The smart choice to get your little one ready for kindergarten. Students will learn about size, color and shapes, numbers, reading and readiness, following directions, time, listening skills and social-emotional development. Teachers will explore the alphabet, addresses, phone numbers and name writing with your child. Classes are designed for the child entering kindergarten in the fall of 2014. A graduation celebration will be held at the end of the school year. Class maximum: 16 students.

Registration must be completed at the Park District office.

The entire fee is due at time of registration. A copy of the child’s birth certificate is due at time of registration. Your child must be 2 years old by September 1, 2013. Upon registering you will be given a copy of the parent manual, emergency form, and medication form. The forms are due on the first day of class.

Little Learners In a class by itself! Socialization and learning through play will fill your child’s day. Students are exposed to creative art expression, singing and rhythm activities, body movement, stories, free play, name recognition, fine motor skills, and activities related to every day math, science, and language discovery. Totally 2s & 3s Information The first day of each session is with parents. Parents will be able to see what a typical day at Totally 2s & 3s is like for their child. Policies and procedures will be explained during the first day.

Pull-ups are accepted, but our teachers are not able to change any child. Children should be in the process of learning how to be toilet independent while attending this program. Parents must be available to return to the program to change their child’s pull-up or in case of a bathroom accident.

Fees are based on the number of days class will be in session due to official school holidays. For our cancellation and transfer policies, please refer to our parent manual.

Totally 2s & 3s Designed to provide your child with their first introduction to a preschool setting. Children are eased into separation from their parents when their child is ready. Classes will emphasize socialization and learning through play. Music, story time, and arts n crafts are a few of the exciting new experiences your toddler will enjoy. This program is an excellent stepping stone into our Little Learners program.

Early Childhood

Lunch and Learn Programs Sign up your child to learn about a variety of topics throughout the school year. Make sure to pack your child a lunch. This is a great way to extend your child’s preschool day or just give them time in a classroom setting. Children do not have to be enrolled in preschool to attend these programs.

Students enrolled in preschool at Ahlstrand Fieldhouse will be escorted from their class to the Lunch and Learn Programs. Program time for Little Learners is 11am-12:30pm and Pre-Kindergarten is 11:30am-1pm.

Shake it All About Get your child active and moving! In our new motor skills room, we will play with balls, parachutes, mats and much more.

Boys and Girls Basketball Leagues Winter 2013/14 NEW LEAGUE! Come join our new 1st/2nd grade co-ed instructional youth basketball league that will introduce your child to the basic fundamentals of basketball. Players will receive instruction from volunteer coaches in dribbling, passing, shooting, as well as learn the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Teams will have two practices before the season begins on January 4. These two practices will be taught by two experienced coaches. All volunteer coaches will learn the basic fundamental drills and apply these during the season to their pre game practices. Teams will participate starting January 4 in a 30 minute pre game practice with their volunteer coach then will play a 30 minute basketball game (two fifteen minute half’s). Games will be instructional and can be stopped at any time to teach the participants.

After School Club (ASC) Information

Keep your kids active and busy after school! Our after school staff not only provides a safe and fun environment, but also participates in sports, games and crafts with your child. There’s homework and snack time too. With a flexible schedule (you pick how many days your child attends) and a reasonable fee (as low as $10.50 per day*), you cannot go wrong. Transportation from school to our facility is provided by our shuttle bus.

Tuition is based on the total number of days school is actually in session per year. Fees are divided into 9 equal payments for the school year and will not be lower for those months that have fewer attendance days due to holidays (i.e. winter and spring break). Participants are not charged for holidays and days off from school.

A $15 non-resident fee will be charged at the time of registration when applicable.

Phone-in registration will not be accepted. A parent handbook will be given out at the time of registration.

Included in the handbook is an Emergency Release Form.

This form is due on the first day of ASC.

After School Club Daily Pass Don’t have a set schedule or need childcare when something comes up, then this is your solution.

The Daily Pass allows you to purchase days and use them when you need them throughout the school year. There are guidelines that will be given out at time of registration.

Please note that some dates may become unavailable based on ratios.

Birthday Party Packages Make your child’s birthday party a memorable one. Parents relax and enjoy, while our party club staff host the 2 hour party from start to finish: entertain, serve and clean up. Your private room party will include tableware, juice, decorations and party bags.

Crazy Games Party (5 -10 yrs old) Play a variety of fun games in our activity room. Play with the parachute, have relays, limbo and games that will be customized to your child’s party. $92/$107

“Princess for a Day” Party (5 - 10 yrs old) The birthday girl will be a princess on her special day! Guests and birthday girl will get hair, nails, and make up done. Everyone will create a crown to keep! $113/$128

Safety Town Party (4 – 6 yrs old) Explore the town with your friends on your special day! Birthday child and guests will go on a tour of Safety Town, have time to ride around and make a craft. There will be time for cake and gifts too. $140/$155 To reserve a party, a party reservation form must be filled out and returned with a $20 non-refundable deposit fee. Final payment and number of guests are due 3 business days before your party.

Youth | Sports

Youth Inter Village Soccer LeaguesSpring 2014 Break away from the pack and join youth co-ed soccer leagues. The Inter Village league will provide an environment for players of all levels. Teams are offered at the U10 (3rd/4th grade), U12 (5th/6th grade), U14 (7th/8th grade) and U18 (High School) level. Teams will compete against other teams from other area Park Districts. Each team will practice once during the week and play games on Saturdays. Players should register based on age for the 2013/2014 school year. Each play receives a team jersey, short and socks. Shin guards are required. Soccer cleats are recommended.

Holiday Lacrosse Camps!

Volunteer coaches are needed for all Inter Village teams.

Coach training and certification is available through the Park District. Please contact the Athletic Supervisor for information about upcoming classes.

Be a part of the exciting new game of Lacrosse. This introductory class is for first time lacrosse players who want to learn the game, no experience necessary. You will be taught the fundamentals of lacrosse including cradling, passing, teamwork and defense will be covered through drills and skills. Each participant will earn a camp T-shirt and completion certificate.

Boxing Academy The HPPD Boxing Academy develops self-confidence and self-respect in a safe and fun environment. Participants will be taught how to perform better and get that competitive edge. Learn how to wrap hands like a boxer, stance and footwork techniques, defensive maneuvers, rhythm, coordination, nutrition, punch/counter punch combinations and self-defense techniques. Young Rembrandts Welcome to the WINTER session of Young Rembrandts.

We teach children how to draw using an engaging methodology that all children can succeed with. We learn about drawing and art, while developing academic, conceptual, and critical thinking skills. EACH WEEK throughout the session we do a NEW and DIFFERENT drawing which may include still life, graphic design, portraiture, line drawings, and more. Monthly Art History lessons may highlight a famous artist, genre, place of historic significance, or style. Of course, your child will have fun while learning. All materials are supplied!

Beginner Class: The Beginner Class is geared to children from Preschool to Grade 2. It is the same curriculum as our Advanced Class, but at a slower pace for children just starting out with the program.

High School Co-Ed Basketball Leagues Winter 2013/14 NEW LEAGUES! Come join our new look youth basketball league that will introduce your teen to continue learning the basic fundamentals of basketball. Players will receive instruction from volunteer coaches in dribbling, passing, shooting, as well as learn the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship. Practice location, day and time are determined by the volunteer coach and facility availability.

Each basketball team will receive reversible jerseys to keep and players will also have a chance to compete in an AllStar game at the end of the season.

Teams will be formed based at the freshmen through senior grade levels. If there are enough players at individual grade levels, the grades will be divided. All teams will be formed by a draft system. The head coach and assistant coach may protect their child (keep them on the same team). NO OTHER REQUESTS WILL BE ALLOWED BEFORE/AFTER THE DRAFT. Holiday Jam Dominate the competition! Hanover Park Park District is bringing adult basketball to the area. On Sunday December 22 the first annual Holiday Jam tournament will take place. This tournament is set up for adult teams in the area who want to compete in a tournament setting. Teams must have a minimum of 6 players and register before the deadline. Get your team together and see if you have what it takes to become tournament champions. Winners will receive a cash prize and trophy.

Badminton is for individuals of High School age and older for recreational play. Four regulation sized courts are set up for your enjoyment in our community center gym. Senior Group Join us on Tuesdays from 11am-3pm for activities, fun and friends. Our senior group is a great to meet new people in our community while playing games such as Poker, Kings Corners, Michigan Rummy and Bingo. Each week will have a different theme which may consist of games, contests or potlucks. Once a season we will celebrate yearly participants’ birthdays (that fall within that particular season) with cake and a gift. There is a yearly or daily fee to help defray the cost of food, gifts, prizes, weekly meetings and the senior coordinator.

The Vision of the Hanover Park Park Foundation is to:

The Hanover Park Park Foundation is a 501(c) 3 Not for Profit organization that consists of a group of volunteers who assist the Hanover Park Park District (HPPD) by means of partnership and sponsorship.

Encourage partnerships and sponsorships within the Hanover Park Park District community.

Last year was the first year we created an Annual Sponsorship Appeal and are pleased to report that we raised approximately $5,300.00!! We are again seeking your participation as a sponsor of the Hanover Park Park Foundation.

Assist the Hanover Park Park District in finding alternative revenue sources for program supplementation.

The Hanover Park Park Foundation provides scholarships for children and families allowing their participation in programs that they otherwise would not be able to afford. We exist in part to assist in providing recreation and leisure opportunities for the residents of the Hanover Park Park District for present and future generations. We can only do this through fund raising and the support from people like you.

Since 2005, the Hanover Park Park Foundation has raised $30, 700 through fund raising efforts. This has helped 638 participants and has provided 547 financial assistance awards.

Hanover Park youth and families receive scholarship grants for Park District programs.

Assist the Hanover Park Park District in providing lifetime enjoyment for the residents of Hanover Park.

The Centre Court Athletic Club (CCAC) is a community facility, owned and operated by the Hanover Park Park District. We offer the finest in services and facilities for fitness, health, racquetball and tennis for the entire family all at reasonable rates. Stop by or call us for a tour.

Registration Registering for a Centre Court Athletic Club program couldn’t be easier. To register, please stop by the Club front desk, located on the lower level of the Community Center or call (630) 837-6300 and register using cash, check, Visa, Discover or Mastercard. Our desk staff will be glad to assist you.

General Tennis Class Information • Registration for tennis classes is on a first-come, firstserved basis.

• Students or participants must pay the full price of an individual drill, lesson or clinic regardless of showing up late to a class or leaving early.

• If a lesson participant misses a class, he or she may make it up during the current session with tennis pro approval only. Missed classes may not be carried over into a new session.

• Please call for information regarding USTA Adult Leagues, Junior Tournaments and Women’s / Men’s NITTL leagues.

• All classes, regardless of age, are based upon ability and skill level.

Private Tennis Lessons Improve your game by taking a private or semi-private lesson or a hitting session with one of our junior tennis professionals.

Permanent Court Time Racquetball* and Tennis court time may be reserved on a permanent basis for three sessions per year by filling out a permanent court time contract. When you reserve tennis permanent court time you receive the following benefits: Reduced rate because you pay in advance for each session, we reduce the hourly rate by $1.00. Tennis and Racquetball: Guaranteed reservation – you never need to call, just come in and play, your court is waiting. PCT goes on sale August 17, 2013 at 9 am for the Fall/Winter session. *Although racquetball courts are available to our members with no charge, if a member wishes to have court time permanently reserved throughout a session in order to ensure court availability, a $5.00 per week charge will be applied, payable prior to the start of the session.

Aerobic Studio This 2500 sq. ft. studio features wood flooring, mirrors and a state-of-the-art sound system.

Fitness Center This 2400 sq. ft. center features state-of-the-art resistance & cardiovascular equipment and a fully equipped 600 sq. ft. free weight room.

Handicap Accessibility The Park District and the CCAC are handicapped accessible and comply with A.D.A. standards. The elevator is accessible from all 3 levels and is available for public use.

Locker Rooms, Whirlpools & Saunas Club members will enjoy the clean and spacious men’s & women’s locker rooms, each with its own whirlpool and sauna.

Lounge and Snack Bar The central core of the club includes a lounge area complete with a big screen TV where members and guests may relax after a hard workout.

Kids Korner Service Kids Korner service is available to program participants who utilize the Centre Court Athletic Club. The Kids Korner, located next to the Aerobic Studio, is available Monday-Friday from 9 am - 5 pm (by appointment only).

Pro Shop A complete stock of the latest in tennis, racquetball, fitness equipment and accessories is available at competitive prices. A professional racket stringing & gripping service is also available.

Racquetball Courts The four racquetball courts offer hardwood floors and complete climate control for year round playing comfort.

Tennis Courts Our 10 indoor tennis courts feature the “Chevron Laykold¨ surface which offers a true bounce and minimum leg fatigue to players of every ability level. Four of the indoor courts are air-conditioned for your summertime comfort.

Refund, Cancellation & Transfer Policy: Please see page 46 for the policy of the Hanover Park Park District.

Court Reservations & Cancellations Members may reserve court time up to seven days in advance. Cancellation of court time must be made at least 24 hours in advance of play. Members are responsible for court fees if for any reason they wish to cancel less than 24 hours and the court cannot be sold. Members who make reservations and fail to show are responsible for the cost of the court and are charged accordingly.

Guest Policy Non-members who wish to utilize the tennis and racquetball courts are responsible for $6/ $8 nr guest fee.

Non-members using the fitness center, whirlpool and sauna only, will be responsible for an $8/ $10 nr guest fee.

Monthly Play Pass If playing a lot of tennis is high on your priority list you can’t go wrong by purchasing a Play Pass. Reservations may be made up to 48 hours in advance, initially for one-and-a-half hours of tennis. If the court is available at the end of that time, please contact the customer service desk to see if the court is still available. Non-play pass holders must pay their portion of the court time fees. A valid CCAC membership is required to purchase a play pass. The play pass is available during the following hours: Weekdays from 5:30 am to 5 pm.

Our “club membership” is an all inclusive membership that covers the three main aspects of the club; tennis, fitness and racquetball. Our “fitness membership” is the same as the “club membership” except it eliminates the tennis aspect of the club.

This will allow members the opportunity to begin using the Club without paying one large fee upfront. • Family Memberships include husband, wife, and members of the immediate family who are age 21 and under and who reside at the same residence.

• Junior Memberships are available for individuals age 17 and under. Fitness center usage requires an orientation session for youths ages 11-15, at which time a parent or legal guardian must be in attendance.

Any subsequent use of the fitness equipment by youth ages 11-13 must be under the supervision of the parent or legal guardian. Youth ages 11-15 will not be allowed to use the free weight area. The fitness center will only be open to youths ages 11-15 at the following times: Weekdays 2 - 6P Weekends 12 - 6P • Senior citizen memberships are available to anyone age 60 and over.

• Memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable.

• Memberships may be put on hold for medical reasons.

• Couple memberships are available for two individuals over 17 living in the same household.

Are you ready for some action versus opponents of equal caliber? CCAC’s in-house tennis leagues may be just for you.

Each league will play one match per week during their designated day/time for a 15-week session. Can’t play on any given day? Not a problem as each participant may find a league-approved substitute or reschedule the match with their opponent (for any rescheduled matches, court fees will apply).

Quickstart Orange II (ages 7-8) *Some previous experience* The goal of this class is simple – to learn the basics of a rally by being able to hit the ball back and forth over the net with a partner through the use of fun activities and games.

Junior Development Blue (ages 11-14):

This lesson plan will introduce tennis to new players in this age level in a fun and efficient manner. We will focus on basic tennis skills, grips, fundamentals and techniques while also introducing basic court movements and positioning on all tennis-related strokes will be introduced and developed through instruction and fun ageappropriate games.

This 1.5 hour lesson continues to develop the basic tennis skills while expanding shot selections. We will focus on adding various spins, improve consistency and add more direction to our ground strokes while developing transition shots, correct volleying and serve grips and court positioning. This lesson will consist of instruction and fun, skill developing games with some emphasis on point play.

Classes are held in the Community Center Aerobics Studio for ages 14 & up. Children will not be allowed in the studio during classes. Drop-in fees are paid directly to the CCAC front desk prior to the start of class. Showers and lockers are available for use in the Athletic Club on the lower level.

1. Kid’s Korner service is available Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. For additional Kid’s Korner service information, see page 39.

Intro to Fitness Class This three-session class will cover fundamentals of exercise using the fitness center equipment (does not include the weight room), get a workout while learning, and be tested to determine understanding of safety and proper use of equipment. Children may be left in the Kid’s Korner for a maximum of 2 hours. Call the Centre Court Athletic Club for additional information.

Punch Card System Purchase a punch card at the Centre Court Athletic Club during regular hours of operation. Users must have a punch card on file or purchase one before using the Kid’s Korner. If you have an appointment and are unable to attend, you must call to cancel by 7 am the morning of your appointment or you will be charged for the reserved time.

Participants must make appointments by calling the Centre Court Athletic Club 24 hours in advance. Staff will stay 15 minutes past your scheduled appointment. If you are running late, please call to insure your appointment. If you are a regular user of the Kid’s Korner, you may pre-book your reservation 2 weeks in advance.

Five Easy and Convenient Ways to Register All household information must be updated ANNUALLY with Hanover Park Park District residency documented with a Photo ID (Driver’s license or State ID) and current utility bill. CONTINUED PROOF OF RESIDENCY is necessary to guarantee that only residents living within in the Park District’s boundaries receive discounted rates.

1. Online Registration – www.hpparks.org Online registration is now available through our website. If you have not yet applied for online registration, a simple quick visit to the Hanover Park Park District Community Center at 1919 Walnut, Hanover Park, Illinois is necessary to complete the online registration form. Hanover Park Park District residents: Please bring in two forms of identification (Driver’s License or State ID and a current utility bill) documenting your address within the boundaries of the Park District.

2. Mail-In Prior to mailing in your registration, a Family Information Form must be completed in person at the Park District office, accompanied by proof of Hanover Park Park District residency (Driver’s license or State ID and current utility bill) if you are a resident. Then, complete the registration form and mail to the Hanover Park Park District, 1919 Walnut, Hanover Park, IL 60133. Registration for Preschool, After School Club and youth sports must be made in person.

3. Fax-In Prior to faxing in your registration, a Family Information Form must be completed in person at the Park District office, accompanied by proof of Hanover Park Park District residency (Driver’s license or State ID and current utility bill) if you are a resident. 1. Only immediate family members may be listed on a registration form.

2. Only a parent or guardian may register a minor and sign the waiver.

3. The registration form must be filled out completely.

4. Review all registration, transfer and refund information.

5. Payment must accompany registration. Fax registration must be accompanied by Visa, Discover or MasterCard information. Make checks payable to the Hanover Park Park District.

6. Members of households with a delinquent outstanding balance shall not be allowed to register for Park District programs or facilities until said balance is paid in full.

Requests must be made in person. A $5 fee will apply for most transfers. A $10 fee will apply for Preschool, After School Club, and day camp programs.

Financial assistance offers residents who experience undue hardship an opportunity to enroll their children in recreation programs.

Funding is made available by the Village of Hanover Park and the Hanover Park Park Foundation. For more information, call Gina Mastro-Strickler at (630)837-2468, Ext. 121.

Residents and Non Resident Rates A “resident” is defined as anyone living within the geographical boundaries of the Hanover Park Park District. Residents in Hanover Park Park District have priority for limited programs. You may be required to pay the non-resident fee even though you live in Hanover Park because the boundaries of the village are not the same as the boundaries of the Park District. Non-residents may register for programs for a fee that is 50% percent higher than the resident fee or $15 over the resident fee, whichever is the smaller amount.

Refund Policy Refunds will not be granted for class(es) missed or forgotten. All requests for refunds must be submitted in writing. Forms for refunds are available at the Park District office. Refunds requested for a program prior to the start of a class will be assessed a $5 fee. A request for a refund after the program begins, but prior to the 2nd meeting, will also be assessed an additional prorated fee based upon the per class cost. NO refunds will be granted after the 2nd class with the exception of a written medical excuse with the fee based on the prorated cost per class and the normal service fee. Refunds for trips will not be given unless the trip is canceled by the Park District or a replacement is found to take the trip. A $10 refund fee applies for Preschool, After School Club, and day camp programs.

Participants shall: • Show respect to all participants and staff • Refrain from using foul language • Refrain from causing bodily harm • Show respect to equipment, supplies and facilities Additional rules are developed for specific programs as deemed necessary by staff.

Facility Rentals Park District facilities are ideal for parties, receptions, or private gatherings and are available when park programs are not scheduled. Payment and deposit must be made in advance to the Park District office. To make arrangements, or, for more information call the Park District office at 630-837-2468. Service and civic groups, please call for rates.

Working together, the Hanover Park Youth Activity Supplement Program of the Village of Hanover Park, the Lions Club, and the Hanover Park Park Foundation have assisted many families in Hanover Park provide activities such as karate, dance, soccer, basketball, gymnastics, swim lessons, aquatic facility passes, and summer camp for their children.

Since 1998, more than 300 individual scholarships have been awarded totaling more than $40,000.00 Thank you, Lions Club and Village of Hanover Park. Bike Path And Trails Maintenance Policy Mother Nature will be allowed to take her own course of action with respect to our park district bike paths and trails, located at Community Park, Ahlstrand Park, Harbor Park East-West, Nautilus Park and Ranger Park. In Illinois there is no legal duty to clear paths or trails. But if an agency voluntarily takes on the job, liability may be imposed if it is not done properly.

The Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA) recommends that we limit path maintenance to a thorough season-ending inspection and documentation of irregularities, that we fix any hazards and that we post signs conveying the message that users of the paths and trails do so at their own risk.
