Kamau Taurua Quarantine Island
Kamau Taurua Quarabtine island is a public Recreation Reserve and an Hostoric Area

This is the social media content for Kamau Taurua Quarantine Island, for which I and five other group members at Otago Polytechnic designed and developed a brand strategy. These group members include Libby Guthrie, Rosa Nevison, Kiritea Cook-Green, Sarah Baines, and Nick Alexandra.

I worked with two of the group members to create a guerilla marketing campaign. The idea was to bring the island to the city so that more local visitors would be educated about it and what it offers our local community. I was lucky enough to visit the island for a day and take photos for my social media campaign.

I was also given the role of designing a pamphlet to be given out to visitors when they arrive on the island as well as free advertising when distributed to public areas. The pamphlet explains what activities are offered on the island and includes a map that helps guide you around the best sites on the island.

My Client asked me to mix the idea of escapism and all the unpleasant things I visually create in my mind when i close my eyes. .

Escapism is the tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, especially by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy.

A Dove Flies around Dunedin UNESCO City of Literature

Ōtepoti continues to support Lviv and Odessa Cities of Literature and the people of Ukraine with a tribute to Ukrainian folk artist Maria Prymachenko and her famous painting ‘A Dove Has Spread Her Wings and Asks for Peace’ (1982). Prymachenko came to the attention of Picasso in 1937 when he is famously quoted as saying, ‘I bow down before the artistic miracle of this brilliant Ukrainian.’

Hanging in the foyer of Dunedin Public Libraries City Branch, this larger-thanlife replica was created as a fundraiser for ReliefAid Ukraine by artists Nick Guilford, Penelope Smith and Kylie Woods of Ōtepoti. The ‘action art’, which was completed in one day on 10 July, was first displayed in the Ukrainian Hub in the Golden Centre and will eventually fly from City Library to Holy Name Church.

The time lapse video showing the production of the replica will be added to the suite of short films featuring breathtaking Ukrainian landscapes and towns that was generously gifted to Ōtepoti by Lviv UNESCO City of Literature.
