ABOUT ME

Architecture to me is a way to express identity through design visualizing the world through the eyes of the user. With a diverse range of project experiences, I have had the opportunity to work on commercial, residential, public spaces and exhibitions. Each project has been an enriching journey, allowing me to develop a keen eye for detail, spatial awareness, and a deep understanding of the building blocks of form, function, and user interaction.

CREEK PROJECT

Project Type : New Build

Programs used : AutoCad , Sketchup , Twinmotion

Involved Stages : Design / working drawings / Interior Design drawings

Budget : 500k-1 Million

Situated at the base of a creek, this project presented unique challenges due to its location. We identified a flood overlay that required us to address stringent requirements from Melbourne water. To respond to the requirements it was assessed that no construction could be done within a certain distance from the creek. The project also was a good look into client consulting and how to appropriately communicate and do alterations to the clients needs and wants. The building was done on a tight budget contributing to the problem solving .The building successfully went out for tender and builder awarded.

BAYSIDE PROJECT

Project Type : Extension

Involved Stages : Design / Town planning (Planning application lodged)

Budget : 1 - 1.5 Million

The client approached us to design their dream home located in a prime and desirable location near the beach. The existing building has a heritage overlay and needed to be considered for client and councils approval. The design was initially shaped around the client’s non negotiable requirements, reflecting the needs of their large family. With this in mind we discussed the idea of creating a family orientated house with various open spaces for people to gather. From there we iterated the facade and from our previous client meeting found they loved the juxtaposition of old and new. For the extension we wanted to keep a clean and neutral colour palette with louver systems to create texture and block the northern sun.

MORNINGTON SHIRE PROJECT

Budget : 2 Million

The Mornington Shire project was highly focused on design, and we collaborated closely with the client and within our team, actively considering everyones input to identify the best solutions for each challenge that emerged. We established that they loved the idea of a modern luxurious home while also highlighting the surrounding flora. This was not our only influence however we positioned the outdoor area to the east to allow for the early sun to penetrate the dwelling. This concept filled the client with joy to see their visions come to life. Using this concept did raise some challenges , which stemmed form building on the boundary. An Arborist was consulted with to assess the removal of certain trees and assessing the tree protection zones (TPZ).

The clients came to us with the vision of turning a neglected space to the rear of their workshop into a gateway space from William Street into the University. When tackling a challenge like this we liked to look at the user experience of the space and how it is currently used. Based on it being a mechanical space we still wanted to have a function aspect to the site however to dampen sound and make the space more inviting. With the space acting as a gateway we look into how trees can impact our perception on space and aid in experience hence for our decision on the tunnel-like structure, this would project shadows onto the ground impersonating the effect of line of trees.

CORAL PORTHOLES

Location : 131-133 Little Bourke St, Melbourne VIC

Programs used : Rhino , Enscape

Coral Portholes was a project based on forms from François Blanciak’s Siteless: 1001 Building Forms and how to alter them to create interesting spaces. The project was based in the heart of china town and I looked to find an appropriate form that had some relation to the rich seafood cuisine . Also as soon as I drafted the form I immediately was drawn to how people could move around the space.

To begin on the design I need to first find a way to create the original form and then see how I could alter it to create a more intriguing form. To begin I used a sweep command to get the base pipes and after used subD mechanics to create the rounded edges on the pipes while also giving them a thickness.

From the previous iteration some changes were made so that the inside of the structure could be hollowed out to create interesting form and spaces and also to create that coral effect. The addition of putting it on the site also enabled me to gauge the proportion of the project to its surroundings. I found the final rendition would have to be larger. To house the exhibition.

GRAD X EVOLVE

Location : AMDC building Swinburne University

Programs and Construction methods used : Rhino, Imersian Software, Blender, CNC

Role : Interactive 3D/AR map, Award winners fames and layout consultation

Grad X Evolve was a big project looking back on it with many moving parts and many things to be done. This was to showcase all of the graduating design students work Throughout their last year. A hand full of students were picked out to help aid in the construction of the exhibition . In saying this I was one of the people helping on the team and it was my role to create a virtual map of the building for people new to the Swinburne campus. I created this with the help of the people at Imersian who showed me how to use their 3D/AR software, that I found was a perfect fit for our needs. One of the other tasks I was given was to create the award winning stands that would be showcased on the main foyer. These were constructed by CNC and using slot in joints for ease of construction. Finally we were consulted on how we could possibly arrange the works for the Architecture graduates.

My main project within the Grad X was a 3D interactive AR map that could be accessed via QR code This was done in conjunction with Imersian studio. Their software enabled me to import the model space to an interactive viewer that could show different floors and what was being exhibited.

To display the award winners we needed to construct some stands that could house some posters .we wanted these to be easy to construct and dismantle. Within the process of creating them we used a CNC machine to create all of the individual pieces which enhanced the speed of the production 10x. After they needed to be sanded to create an acceptable finishes.

The last aspect of the Grad X was setting up the architecture exhibition that showcased undergrads, graduates and the masters students. We had very limited space so we had to come up with a layout that both allowed light to illuminate the exhibit but also to allow for ease of access.
