DARUL IHSAN GIRLS’ ORPHANAGE
LOCATION: 23 WAN THO AVE, SINGAPORE

PROJECT BACKGROUND
The study of interior design in Darul Ihsan Girls’ Orphanage, which is a part of the Muslimin Trust Fund Association. It was founded in 1904 by a group of gentlemen who supported unprivileged Muslim children. The association has helped many people from all ages by providing financial aid, educational awards and free burial services.
DESIGN STATEMENT
To create an interactive and lively home to enhance lifestyle and improve the well-being of the orphans and staff, by having a variety of shared spaces for social interactions, with private spaces providing sufficient nurturing and a sense of belonging. The use of balance, harmony in polished materials and vibrant colours, and repetition of spatial features emanate liveliness and positivity.

Having a dynamic and lively home can help bring positivity and vibrancy into the orphans’ and staff’s lives. A place where the orphans feel encouraged, productive and optimistic.
This can help rejuvenate the orphanage into a place where the orphans can live, play and learn in a home.

The purpose of the key space model is to explore on different materials, colours and lighting

PROJECT BACKGROUND

The study of the new meaning and relevance of office spaces when professionals work more from home and where physical interactions are less required. There is a relation between the digital reality we live in with the meaning of collaboration. The building’s location invites us to think about the social perceptions of the people with financial needs, and how the community embraces Ministry of Social and Family Development’s target audience.
DESIGN STATEMENT
To create an engaging and welcoming office workspace which fosters collaboration and offers reachable support to vulnerable residents. The use of organic linear features can provide a fluid and harmonious atmosphere, helping to connect the variety of spaces, and incorporate fellowship of the staff and residents.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

Living where you work and play is the main plank of Singapore’s vision for its Central Business District, thus the government hopes to change Singapore into a big liveable global city. One way to implement this is to adopt co-living concepts that can help Singaporeans live closer to their workplace. The government has also initiated to focus on Arts, encouraging creative talents to revitalize the CBD area, and making arts as an integral part of the lives of Singaporeans.
DESIGN STATEMENT

To create an interactive space for a stained glass artist that can help uplift his ideas and mood, and to let individuals understand more about Singapore’s heritage through the artist’s expertise. The semi-shared area is used for interaction and showcasing to the public through the form of open exhibitions and exposed workshops. Intimate spaces such as a personal studio, bedroom and balcony are only accessible by the artist for working, living and playing. Using structural and colour contrast, asymmetry and harmony accentuates the reinvigorating expression that is being conveyed within the structure.

TO REPRESENT STABILITY, FRAGMENTATION, ASYMMETRY AND CONTRAST
CLIENT – STAINED GLASS ARTIST
I chose a stained glass artist as my client as stained glass art is not widely known and focused in Singapore. As this artform is being introduced to the CBD area, it would create a sense of contrast to the place. It would be a form of attraction to the public, helping to revitalize the area.

WORKSHOP

The first floor is an open and workshop for the public to learn more about the artform. The second floor is private, and is meant only for the stained glass artist to work and live. The top floor is public, with an open exhibition and balcony.

A project where I was required to explore different forms and features using what I have learnt from tutorials in online classes and sources. Another aim for this project was to be independent in my own learning.

ARTWORKS
I enjoy creating art and drawing during my free time. I also had the opportunity to take O-Level Art.
caption
I was able to apply the drawing, crafting and design skills in my Diploma course, and I have learnt to be more detail-oriented when it comes to my overall workmanship skills.
This art piece is to convey the story of what would usually happen when I visit my relatives back in The Philippines.
