Our primary students celebrated May Crowning in the chapel the first week of May. Our middle school students celebrated May Crowning on May 7th.

Following Mass, the 8th graders were honored with a seated luncheon in the MJFC where they watched their 8th grade video. They also had four special SVdP alumni guests join to answer questions about high school.

Covid couldn’t stop the word learning this year at SVdP. SVdP middle school accomplished a first in the 2020-21 Annual Vocabulary Bowl by winning the State Champion title, and a Division II Top 10 School, beating out all other contenders in the state of Texas. This is no small feat considering the competition includes HISD schools, some of which have enrollments of over 3500 students. 1.3 million students from 43,520 schools across North America participated in the Bowl this year and mastered more than 36 million words.

Although our stiffest competition this year came from the High School for Law and Justice, (a Division 3 school of 496 students), all of their students are eligible to compete, while only 155 St. Vincent middle school students participate annually. And although St. Vincent’s held a comfortable (several thousand word) lead in the beginning of April, Law and Justice seemed determined to win State this year and in the wee hours of 4/30 they actually took the lead. However, by 10 AM SVdP had gained it back and more, never relinquishing a 1400-word lead. With the State title (and banner!!) clearly won, SVdP students rested, savoring the victory.

Between October 1st and April 30th, SVdP students mastered a total of 88,125 words. SVdP is now ranked #37 out of 43,520 schools across North America.
