Enjoy our third edition of Serenade, a magazine that features the past year’s successes, shares details of an exciting year to come and recalls alumni’s cherished time at KU. Highlights include:
• A reflection on the remarkable evolution of jazz at KU, which in 50 years has grown from an underground musical genre to among the best programs in the country.
• A look back to 1964 when the KU Brass Choir, under the direction of Kenneth Bloomquist, performed 85 concerts in six countries during a three-month tour of Southeast Asia.
• An introduction to three extraordinary students: one who has traveled the world excelling in international organ competitions, a Presser Scholar who aims to be the first KU student to simultaneously earn dual degrees in music education and pre-med; and an Afghan trumpeter who shares his incredible journey to KU.
