Liebe Besucher und Gäste der Kurzfilmtage, jedes Jahr aufs Neue erschafft ein Filmfestival für einige Tage einen gesonderten, neuartigen Kosmos. In unserem erwarten Sie nicht nur Filmprogramme in verschiedenen Spielstätten, sondern auch eine Reihe von Lectures, Podiumsdiskussionen und vielen anderen Sonderveranstaltungen – und nicht zuletzt unsere Festival Bar. Zur Orientierung in dieser vielförmigen Welt gibt es dieses Programmbuch.

Es bietet Informationen und schnelle Hilfe, auch bei Hunger und anderen praktischen Fragen. Wir hoffen, es bereitet Ihnen Freude. Senden Sie uns dazu gerne Ihr Feedback an pr@kurzfilmtage.de.

Dear festival visitors and guests, Every year, a film festival creates a fresh and unique cosmos of its own for a few days. In ours, you can look forward not only to film programmes in various venues, but also to lectures, podium discussions and many other special events – and, last but not least, to our Festival Bar. This programme booklet is to help you find your way around this very varied world. It provides information and quick assistance, even about where to go when you're hungry and other practical matters. We hope you enjoy reading it and would be very glad to have your feedback at pr@kurzfilmtage.de.

Akkreditiertentickets Tickets for accredited visitors Die Vorführungen können nur mit einer gültigen Eintrittskarte besucht werden. Ihre Akkreditierung berechtigt Sie, kostenlos Karten an der jeweiligen Kasse der Spielorte zu beziehen. Der Platzanspruch erlischt zehn Minuten vor Vorstellungsbeginn und bei ausverkaufter Vorstellung.

Admission to screenings is possible with a valid ticket only. Your accreditation entitles you to free tickets for all screenings which can be obtained at the respective ticket counters of the screening venues. The entitlement expires ten minutes before the screening starts and when it is sold out.

Sprachfassungen Language versions Alle Filme werden im Original gezeigt und haben Untertitel oder werden über Kopfhörer eingesprochen. Davon ausgenommen sind die Vorführungen im Kino im Walzenlager. Weitere Ausnahmen sind im Timetable markiert. Kopfhörer gibt es im Lichtburg-Kinofoyer.

All films will be screened in the original version and are subtitled or translated via headphones, except screenings at the Kino im Walzenlager. Other exceptions are marked in the timetable. Headphones are available in the Lichtburg cinema foyer .

Die Geburtsstunde des „Anderen Kinos“: Ein Überblick über den ästhetischen und politischen Umbruch Ende der 1960er Jahre, der den künstlerischen Film bis heute prägt. Begleitet von drei „Dialogues“ unter der Leitung der Medien- und Kulturwissenschaftlerin Sophia Gräfe (Berlin/ Marburg), die im Kino begonnene Debatten weiterführen.

The birth of the “Other Cinema” (“Anderes Kino”). An overview of the aesthetic and political upheaval at the end of the 60s, which impacts on artistic film to this day. Kuratiert von dem finnischen Filmemacher und Künstler Mika Taanila umfasst diese neue Sektion „live cinema“-Arbeiten, die das Bewegtbild als fließende Kunstform begreifen – prozesshaft, kollektiv oder improvisiert. Unter anderem mit Arbeiten von Peter Miller, darunter die Premiere seiner neuen Kino-Performance ST*R, und Owen O’Tooles The Filmers’ Almanac mit Live-Begleitung.

Curated by the Finnish film-maker and artist Mika Taanila, this new section features live cinema works that see moving images as an art form in flux – processual, collective or improvised. Among other things with works by Peter Miller, including the premiere of his new cinema performance ST*R, and Owen O'Toole's The Filmers’ Almanac with live accompaniment.

In jüngster Vergangenheit sind mehr als 30 Künstlerlabore entstanden, die sich der Frage widmen, wie der analoge Film mit seinen ästhetischen und produktionstechnischen Bedingungen gegen die Dominanz des Digitalen standhalten kann. L’Abominable (Paris), Crater Lab (Barcelona), filmkoop wien sowie Filmwerkplaats (Rotterdam) sind vier davon.

The recent past has seen the creation of more than 30 artists' laboratories that focus on the question of how analogue film, with its aesthetic and technical requirements, can hold its ground against the dominance of digital media.

Ausgewählte Arbeiten mit einer aufschlussreichen Kopien- und Wirkungsgeschichte aus den Archivbeständen der Internationalen Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen und des Berliner Arsenal – Institut für Film und Videokunst werden abgeglichen und aufeinander bezogen. (siehe Seite 102) Film history as a history of prints – the new section “re-selected” examines individual film copies in light of what they can tell us in an aesthetic and sociological context.

Selected works with an illuminating print and impact history from the archive holdings of the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen and Berlin's Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art will be compared and correlated. (see page 102)

Festival Bar Festival Bar Vier entspannte Nächte mit aufregender Musik Four relaxed nights with exciting music Die Festival Bar ist der perfekte Treffpunkt, um einen Festivaltag ausklingen zu lassen. Die Stimmung ist so, wie man es bei Gästen aus aller Welt erwartet: freundlich, babylonisch und ausgelassen. Hier mischen sich Gäste und Publikum, es ist der Ort zum Entspannen, Musik hören und Tanzen.

Das Programm ist eine bunte Mischung aus internationalen Stars und Lokalmatadoren. Eröffnet wird die Tanzfläche vom Mülheimer Label Ana Ott am Freitagabend: Mit einem experimentellen Mix aus Free-Jazz und Krautrock berauschen DJ Phil Struck und Live-Drummer Steffen Roth die Gäste. Bei der Film-makers' Night am Samstagabend zeigen Filmemacherinnen und Filmemacher, was sie am DJ-Pult können. Am Sonntag locken dann der Essener DJ CaterKarlos mit SlowTech und der Berliner DJ Hell.

Zum Ausklang dreht DJ Thorsten PopMissile am Montag die Scheiben in der Festival Bar, mit Indie und Electropop.

Der Eintritt ist frei.

The Festival Bar is the perfect meeting place for winding down after a day at the festival. The mood is just as you would imagine with visitors from all over the world: friendly, cosmopolitan and exuberant. This is where guests and the public mingle, a place for relaxing, listening to music and dancing.

The programme brings together a colourful mixture of international and local stars. The dance floor will be opened on Friday evening by the Mülheim label Ana Ott: DJ Phil Struck and live drummer Steffen Roth will thrill visitors with an experimental mix of free jazz and krautrock. During the Film-makers' Night on Saturday evening, film-makers will be able to show off their talents at the DJ console. Then, on Sunday, DJ CaterKarlos from Essen will launch the evening with SlowTech, followed by Berlin DJ Hell. To finish off on Monday, DJ Thorsten PopMissile will be turning the discs in the Festival Bar, with indie and electropop.

Admission is free.

Die Kurzfilmtage zeigen drei aktuelle Serien der One Minutes Foundation aus den Niederlanden. In diesem Jahr wurden die Serien kuratiert von den Filmemacherinnen Salomé Lamas und Ana Vaz sowie dem Performance-Künstler David Henry Nobody Jr. Seit 1998 haben die One Minutes über 17.000 einminütige Videoarbeiten produziert.

Auftaktveranstaltung eines gemeinsamen Projekts der Kurzfilmtage mit dem Arsenal – Institut für Film und Videokunst im Rahmen von „Archive außer sich“ in Kooperation mit dem Haus der Kulturen der Welt, gefördert im Rahmen von "Das Neue Alphabet" durch die BKM auf Grundlage eines Beschlusses des Deutschen Bundestages, geleitet von Tobias Hering.

Individual works will be examined through localised prints with regard to their artistic relevance, material transmission and influence. This is the first event in a joint three-year project run by Oberhausen and Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art as part of “Archive außer sich” in cooperation with the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, supported by the BKM within the framework of “Das Neue Alphabet”, based on a resolution of the German Bundestag.
