Festival Bar Festival Bar Freundlich, babylonisch, ausgelassen Friendly, cosmopolitan, lively Die Festival Bar ist der perfekte Treffpunkt, um einen Festivaltag aus­ klingen zu lassen. Die Stimmung ist so, wie man es sich bei Gästen aus aller Welt erwartet: freundlich, babylonisch und ausgelassen. Am Freitag beamen Khavn & Friends ihren „obscure filipino space muzak mumbojumbo from the 20th century“ auf die Tanzfläche. Samstagnacht locken die lokalen Helden Castillano & Wenninger und Dorfadel sowie der Ber­ liner Kai von Glasow. Am Sonntag gibt es finnische Musik des legendären Ykspihlajan Kino-orkesteri, das zusammen mit dem Geräusche­macher Heikki Kossi den neuen Film von Juho Kuosmanen live vertont.

Im Anschluss geben die Finnen noch ein Konzert. Ab Mitternacht wird bei der Filmmaker’s Night weitergetanzt. Montag bringen die Düsseldorfer Tolouse Low Trax & Frank D’Arpino den Geist des Salon des Amateurs mit in die Bar. Zum Ausklang legt Timboletti am Dienstag eine tanzbare Mischung aus House und organischen Sounds auf.

Der Eintritt ist frei.

The Festival Bar is the perfect place to meet up and relax after a day at the festival. The atmosphere is what you'd expect with guests from all over the world: friendly, cosmopolitan and lively. On Friday, Khavn & Friends will beam their “obscure filipino space muzak mumbo-jumbo from the 20th century” onto the dance floor. On Saturday evening, the big drawcards will be local heroes Castillano & Wenninger and Dorfadel, as well as Kai von Glasow from Berlin. On Sunday, there is Finnish music by the legendary Ykspihlajan Kino-orkesteri, which will provide a live soundtrack to the new film by Juho Kuosmanen together with the foley artist Heikki Kossi. After that, the Finns will give a concert. From midnight onward, there is more dancing during the Filmmakers' Night. On Monday, Tolouse Low Trax & Frank D’Arpino from Düsseldorf will bring the spirit of that city's popular Salon des Amateurs into the bar. And to bring things to a high-spirited conclusion, on Tuesday Timboletti will put on a danceable mixture of House and organic sounds.

HAPPYLAND This is not an installation by Khavn Mit HAPPYLAND präsentieren die Kurzfilmtage die bislang größte Schau des philippinischen Künstlers Khavn außerhalb der Philippinen. HAPPY­ LAND ist ein kollektiv-anarchistisches Kunstereignis, ein Werk, das nicht von Dauer sein will und das von der Teilhabe lebt. Für HAPPYLAND baut Khavn Teile des gleichnamigen Slums in Manila nach. Die Besucher werden mit allen Sinnen nach HAPPYLAND versetzt, sie können singen und tanzen, eine Modenschau besuchen, Musik oder Gedichtvorträge hören. Im Blind Faith Barbershop schneidet der Künstler persönlich mutigen Besuchern die Haare. Abends wird die Meisterköchin Carina Ulan kochen. HAPPYLAND importiert eine fremde soziale Realität in den Rahmen eines Filmfestivals und hinterfragt zugleich dessen Konventionen: die Grenze zwischen Innen und Außen, Hier und Dort, Film und Kunst, Akteuren und Zuschauern.

With HAPPYLAND, Oberhausen is presenting the biggest show to date outside the Philippines by the Philippine artist Khavn. HAPPYLAND is a collective, anarchistic art event, a work that does not aspire to permanence and that lives from participation. For HAPPYLAND, Khavn recreates parts of the Manila slum of this name. Visitors are transported to HAPPYLAND with all their senses; they can sing and dance, visit a fashion show, listen to music or poetry recitals. In the Blind Faith Barbershop, the artist himself will give haircuts to brave visitors. In the evenings, master chef Carina Ulan will cook. HAPPYLAND imports an alien social reality into the setting of a film festival, interrogating the latter's conventions: the border between inside and outside, here and there, film and art, actors and viewers.

Soziale Medien vor dem Internet Social media before the Internet Das Thema-Programm wird ergänzt durch ein Podiumsgespräch mit Aktivisten und Praktikern, die die Entwicklung von Mitmach-Medien vom Videoaktivismus bis zum Web 2.0 begleitet und verfolgt haben.

Angesichts der Formen, die der Online-Dialog inzwischen oft annimmt, soll die Frage gestellt werden, was für ein Fortschritt hier erreicht wurde–und inwiefern sich diese Entwicklung möglicherweise schon bei den frühen, hochge­ stimmten Medienexperimenten andeutete.

The Theme programme will be augmented by a panel discussion with activists and practitioners who have accompanied the development of participatory media all the way from video activism to Web 2.0. Given the forms often taken by online dialogues today, the panel will ask the question of what kind of progress has really been achieved here–and how current developments may have been foreshadowed by the early, high-spirited media experiments.

Das Fernsehen erlebt eine Renais­ sance, vor allem in Form von Webserien. Ein Sub-Genre sind Künstler-Webserien über Ungleich­ heit, Kommodifizierung, institutio­ nelle und strukturelle Mängel in der Kunstwelt und die Rolle der Künstler darin. Eine Diskussion über Themen und Kontexte mit Künstlern aus Europa und Amerika, moderiert von der estnischen Kuratorin und Kunst­ kritikerin Rebeka Põldsam.

Beispiele werden vom 12.-15. Mai im Sunset gezeigt.

A specific new sub-genre are artist web series that address the art world’s problems of inequality, commodification, institutional and structural shortcomings and the role of artists in all this, usually balancing between bitter mockery and visionary critical thinking. Led

by Estonian curator and art critic Rebeka Põldsam, this podium will discuss the issues, contexts and production of web series with artists from Europe and America. Examples will be screened from 12 to 15 May in the Sunset theatre.

The authoritarian turn in Turkey: When did it all start?

Die in letzter Zeit verschärfte Unterdrückung und die Versuche, die kulturelle Diversität der Türkei auszulöschen, wirken sich besonders gravierend auf die intellektuellen und künstlerischen Szenen aus. Die Situ­ ation kann jedoch nicht einfach auf eine „autoritäre Herrschaft“ reduziert werden. Sie ist vielmehr Teil einer universellen Krise des neoliberalen Kapitalismus und hat darüber hinaus einige spezifische historische Wur­ zeln: In den 1990er-Jahren machte das „Grau“ der neoliberalen Demo­ kratie den Weg frei für die schrillen Töne rechtsgerichteter Politik. Das Podium stellt die Frage, inwieweit sich die Kunst als kritisches Medium zur Analyse der Vorgänge eignet, die auf die Reflexion der gegenwärtigen Politik in der Türkei einwirken.

The recent intensification of oppression and the attempts at erasing Turkey’s cultural diversity are particularly damaging for the intellectual and artistic scenes.

However, the situation in Turkey cannot be reduced to 'authoritarian rule.’ In fact, it is part of a universal crisis of neoliberal capitalism, and also has specific historical roots: In the 1990s, the 'grey' of neoliberal democracy gave way to the shrill colors of right-wing politics. This Podium will discuss whether or not the arts can offer a critical medium through which to better analyze the constellation of acts that feeds political reflection of today’s politics in Turkey.

Die Politik des Kalten Krieges neu gelesen mit panafrikanischen Zeitschriften Cold War politics revisited via pan-African magazines Das Forschungsprojekt „Elec­ tronic Textures“ der Trondheim Academy of Fine Art untersucht Geschichtsbilder in der Perspektive pan-afrikanischer, trikontinentaler Zeitschriften. In Zusammenarbeit mit Filmemachern, Künstlern und Autoren wird eine elektronische Publikation erarbeitet, die neue Möglichkeiten erforscht, Text, Bild und Ton ins Verhältnis zu setzen.

Annett Busch präsentiert erste Ergebnisse in Oberhausen.

The “Electronic Textures” research project at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art examines ways of reading history from the point of view of pan-African, tricontinental magazines. An electronic publication will be prepared in cooperation with filmmakers, artists and authors that will explore new ways of relating text, image and sound.

Zum Start stehen sechs Filme online, alle empfohlen von Festivalleiter Lars Henrik Gass. Ab Mai kommt pro Monat ein Film hinzu. Wer neugierig geworden ist: www.flimmit.at

NEW: Since April, prize-winning films and highlights from the German Competitions of the past years can be viewed on the Austrian VOD platform Flimmit. For a start, six films are online, all recommended by festival director Lars Henrik Gass. From May, one film will be added each month.
