WELCOME MESSAGE Dearest Medical Students, I am Waleed Muwafaq Local President at IFMSA-Kurdistan and Head of OC for Zagros Camp 22. We would like to welcome you all to the capital city of the Kurdistan region. It is a great honor to be hosting you. We have prepared a great organizing committee working just to give you an unforgettable time here. You will be learning new skills from our amazing trainers. Additionally, you will be enjoying your time to its most, through our social programs and other fun activities. Hurry up to apply, seats are limited! ABOUT IFMSAKURDISTAN IFMSA-Kurdistan is A member of the IFMSA family. It was established in 2009 in Hawler city of Iraqi Kurdistan region of Iraq. It is ran by medical students and only active medical students can be a member of this organization. Today IFMSA Kurdistan has members in HAWLER (ERBIL), SULAIMANYA, DUHOK, and KOYA cities. The mission of IFMSA-Kurdistan is to offer future physicians a comprehensive introduction to global health issues. Through our programs and opportunities, we develop culturally sensitive students of medicine, intent on influencing the transnational inequalities that shape the health of our planet.
ABOUT ZAGROS CAMP 22 Zagros Camp 22 will be the start of a new era for IFMSA-Kurdistan. For the first time in IFMSA-Kurdistan's history, an SRT will be held including both TNT and TMET. We believe that our NMOs biggest asset is its wellmotivated members, therefore, the quality of our work is strongly dependent on these members’ potential. We want to provide the best opportunities for our members to help them improve upon their soft and specific skills through training sessions. In this SRT, we are planning on helping IFMSA members in general and especially IFMSA-Kurdistan’s, to become well-equipped and motivated trainers so that they can deliver highquality training sessions and continue supporting the backbone of IFMSA.
Zagros Camp 22 will be held in the beautiful city of Hawler(Erbil) from the 16th to the 20th of August.
ABOUT HAWLER (ERBIL) Capital city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
HAWLER The Spider City Hawler, also called Erbil and known in ancient history as Arbela, Human settlement at Hawler may be dated back to the fifth millennium BC. At the heart of the city is the ancient Citadel of Hawler and Mudhafaria Minaret. The earliest historical reference to the region dates to the Third Dynasty of Ur of Sumer when King Shulgi mentioned the city of Urbilum. The city was later conquered by the Assyrians.
HAWLER The Spider City Currently the city of Hawler is the one of the fastest growing cities in Kurdistan, even the region. New businesses are opened every day and buildings are sky rocketing. Kurdistan is a region of good food, people, sights and fun, and Hawler is such a good representation of this. By coming here you will experience warmest welcome from the lovely people of the city and you will be embraced by all the positive energy flowing around. The OC will make sure to provide you with and amount of fun and memories you will forever cherish.
ABOUT OUR WORKSHOPS This year we will provide the opportunity for members of IFMSA to become the trainers of the future. We are doing this through two workshops: 1- Training New Trainers (TNT) 2- Training Medical Education Trainers (TMET)
TNT
Training New Trainers A TNT is the essential workshop to develop new Trainers. It is the crucial event from where the Capacity Building spreads. The main aims of Training New Trainers Workshop Participants are the following: Design, delivery, evaluation and follow up of a training session Soft Skills Development for effective training design and training delivery Youth and accountable trainer's attitude development Sustained development of knowledge and skills after the event
TOPICS IN TNT In Zagros Camp 22 these topic will be delivered: Team Building skills Leadership skills and Emotional Intelligence Presentation & Public Speaking Skills Facilitation techniques Adult learning theory & session design Gamification & Energizers Dealing with difficult participants Non-Formal education Evaluation & Monitoring Methods Creating safe environment
TMET Training Medical Education Trainers
TMETs started with the need to develop IFMSA members’ knowledge about Medical Education, while also empowering them to share and promote it. SCOME provides a peer-education experience through the TMET workshop, directed towards flourishing Medical Education and Student Representation among medical students. These medical students will then also become part of a network of trainers and advocates for a better Medical Education amongst their peers and within their context. Moreover, training medical students in medical education and empowering them to become student representatives shapes not only the quality of our future doctors, but also the quality of healthcare.
TOPICS IN TMET In Zagros Camp 22 these topic will be delivered: Leadership and Team Building Communication and Negotiation skills Educational Strategies Training Session Planning and Design Curriculum Design & Development Presentation and Public Speaking Skills Facilitation Skills Advocacy and External Representation (Policy Making) Accreditation and Quality Assurance Meaningful Student Involvement Social Accountability an Ethics Teaching and Learning Methods Assessment and Evaluation
WHY SHOULD YOU BECOME A TRAINER? Aside from the fact that you will master the skills that learn in the workshop, you will become an internationally certified trainer and you will have the chance to apply for many opportunities in and out of IFMSA that you would otherwise be unable to. An IFMSA trainer can apply for SRTs and Other Capacity Building events around the world, which will be funded either partially or fully. IFMSA has a vast library full of material to improve upon your skills, including books, session designs, diagrams, videos and many more. You will be able to experience the overwhelming joy of training other Capacity Building enthusiast and you will have an active role in youth impowerment.
