GREEN DATA FUTURE SOLUTION

– The aim of the project, implemented by Savonia University of Applied Sciences, is to gather data on the use of environmental and climate-friendly technologies and to communicate their impact in an easily understandable form to the customers of companies in the region.

Climate action covers an extremely broad array of activities in the City of Kuopio, from urban planning all the way to international cooperation. One of the strategic drivers of the city is the circular economy, such as the reuse and recycling of materials.

Mayor of Kuopio Jarmo Pirhonen is pleased that there are a number of research institutes and companies in the city that engage in climate action and inspire others by sharing their ideas of what could be done even better.

“Kuopio was recently rated the most vibrant urban centre in Finland. This is related to the idea that all our services are easily accessible by foot, bicycle and public transportation – such as the new electric buses of Kuopio. Another climate action is the fact that locals can find their nearest exercise facility pretty much right outside their front door, meaning that there is less need to drive around by car,” says Pirhonen.

Pee Ss Aims For Carbon Negativity

PeeÄssä Cooperative Society, the largest service company in North Savo, has carefully considered the environmental responsibility of its investments already for the past 15 years. Property optimization plays a big role: the properties of the cooperative try to optimize the settings for ventilation, heating, lighting and refrigeration devices.

“An example of the climate action taken by PeeÄssä is the water recycling system of the car wash next to Prisma in Kuopio, which saves up to 90 percent of water during a wash. In addition, PeeÄssä has installed a solar power plant on the roof of all its own properties where such an installation has been possible,” says CEO of PeeÄssä Mikko Junttila.

DATA REFINERY SMART CITY PLATFORM – The City of Kuopio is developing a smart city platform to facilitate the application of data in climate action, among other things. The platform can be used to gather, refine, visualize and distribute data for companies, education providers, research institutes, wellbeing services and the City of Kuopio to use.

The goal of PeeÄssä and the entire S Group is to be carbon negative by the end of 2025.
