American Football

As the current champion of Vaahteraliiga (Maple League), Kuopio Steelers has established a culture of winning and American football in Kuopio. Playing its home games at the stadium in Väinölänniemi, Steelers is now a permanent favourite in Vaahteraliiga and allows spectators to enjoy some of the best live American football matches in Finland. Vänäri is simply bursting with emotion as the reigning champion defends its title.

Ice Hockey

KalPa is Kuopio’s long-standing ice hockey team which competes in Liiga, or the Finnish Elite League. Over its long history, the team has played many memorable games in front of big crowds and produced exceptional talents who have shown the world how ice hockey should really be played. The most recent examples have come from former KalPa players, Olympic and World Champion Teemu Hartikainen and Stanley Cup winner Artturi Lehkonen.

Volleyball

The joining force of men's volleyball in Savo, Savo Volley has quickly found a place among the top teams of Finnish volleyball. With its home matches played all across Savo, Savo Volley is drawing volleyball fans to the stands once more, and the atmos- phere in the decisive matches of the season, in particular, resembles that of international arenas.

Women's volleyball is played by Puijo Wolley in the Finnish Women's Volleyball League. The club works in close cooperation with Puijo Wolley Juniors to build a player path where everyone can enjoy and play volleyball and pursue their personal goals.

Other Sports

In Finnish baseball, both the men's team Puijon Pesis and the women's team Puijottaret play in Ykköspesis, the second tier of the championship series. In floorball, Welhot plays in women's F-liiga, the highest floorball league in Finland.
