Group Counseling RESIDENCY SCHEDULE

Attendance and participation are for all activities throughout the Residency weekend. Residency is an orientation and acclimation to the program. It is an opportunity to interact with faculty and peers while enhancing student learning. Residency is designed to fulfill the requirements of the above course. Due to the nature of the learning environment, students must attend all sections as there are components in which the student presents information relating to the class. Residency is a program and course requirement.

10:15 am -11:00 am Ethical & Legal Issues in Group: Confidentiality, Privacy, Professionalism, and Multiculturalism/Diversity Review

Presenter: Dr. Hamblin & Dr. Kemp

Objective: Provide residency participants with expectations for confidentiality and privacy during the residency and procedures for establishing and maintaining these. The presenter will review the importance of confidentiality and privacy to the counseling relationship and their role in developing trust and emotional safety. This review will cover the collaborative relationship between counselor and client, establishing and upholding appropriate boundaries, the limits of confidentiality, maintaining confidentiality, and multicultural and diversity considerations (American Counseling Association, 2014).

Presenter: Dr. Fernandez

Objective: To provide students with the foundational knowledge of group rules and group member roles in group counseling. 2024 CACREP Standards, 3.F.2 & 3.F.3.

Presenter: Dr. Brown

Objective: To provide students with the foundational knowledge of the stages of group counseling. 2024 CACREP Standards, 3.F.1., 3.F.2., 3.F.5., & 3.F.8.

1:30 pm – 2:00 pm Group Counseling Leadership and Facilitation Skills, including in Virtual Settings Review

Presenter: Dr. Panna

Objective: To provide students with the foundational knowledge in leading and facilitating group counseling in both in-person and virtual settings. 2024 CACREP Standards, 3.F.4, 3.F.5, 3.F.6., & 3.F.7.

2:00 pm – 2:30 pm Group Counseling Theories & Techniques in Group Counseling Review

Presenter: Dr. Rice

Objective: Provide participants with the foundational knowledge of group counseling theories and techniques. 2024 CACREP Standards, 3.F.1. & 3.F.8.

2:30 pm - 2:45 pm SELF-CARE BREAK

2:45 pm – 3:45 pm Faculty will role play leading groups and establish group rules and goals while demonstrating confidentiality and informed consent procedures.

Group Therapy Participation and Leadership Experience

Objectives: To provide students with the foundational knowledge required of all entry-level counselor education graduates, as stated in the 2024 CACREP Standards, Section 3. Foundational Counseling Curriculum F. Group Counseling and Group Work: 10. direct experiences in which counseling students participate as group members in a small group activity, approved by the program, for a minimum of 10 clock hours over the course of one academic term

3:45 pm – 4:15 pm Mindfulness Activity

Presenter: Dr. Panjwani

Objective: Provide residency participants tools and skills to maintain or improve well-being through the use of stress management, and burnout prevention.
