Binnen de opleidingen Beeldende Kunsten, Audiovisuele Kunsten en Productdesign biedt de MAD-faculty een brede waaier van afstudeerrichtingen aan. Je kan hier terecht voor Vrije Kunsten (schilderkunst, keramiek, vrije grafiek, beeldhouwkunst), Grafisch Ontwerp, Juweelontwerp en Edelsmeedkunst, Animatiefilm, Communicatie & Mediadesign (interaction design, game art & design), Fotografie, Productdesign en Televisie-Film. MAD-faculty neemt de laatste jaren zowel in onderwijs als in onderzoek een polepositie in Vlaanderen en Europa in. Studenten stappen in een academisch bachelor- en masterprogramma waarin context- en onderzoeksgericht ontwerpen centraal staan. Naast een gedegen vorming in de basisvaardigheden, speelt het leeraanbod voortdurend in op kunstkritische en maatschappelijke ontwikkelingen. Wie afstudeert aan MAD-faculty kan daar vanuit zijn eigen discipline op anticiperen. MAD-faculty geeft actuele trends een plaats via modules, workshops, lezingen en internationale samenwerkingsverbanden en dit met een uitgekiend evenwicht tussen afdelingsspecifieke en vakoverschrijdende opleidingsonderdelen. MAD-FACULTY — MEDIA, ARTS AND DESIGN THE ART PRACTICE OF LIMBURG CRITICAL, SOCIETY-ORIENTED AND INTERDISCIPLINARY Within its Visual Arts, Audiovisual Arts and Product Design programmes, the MAD-faculty offers a wide range of specialisations. Here you will find Free Arts (painting, ceramics, free graphics and sculpture), Graphic Design, Jewellery Design and Goldsmithing, Film Animation, Communication and Media Design (interaction design, gaming art & design), Photography, Product Design and Television/Film. In recent years, the MAD-faculty has taken pole position both in teaching and in research within Flanders and across Europe. Students enroll in an academic bachelor and master programme in which context-oriented design and research take central place. Aside from offering thorough training in basic skills, the curriculum keeps up-to-date with current art critical and social devellopments. Those who graduate from MAD-faculty are trained to anticipate said developments from within their own specialised discipline. MAD-faculty approaches current trends through a variety of modules, workshops, lectures and international collaborations, creating, in this way, a sophisticated balance between department-specific and interdisciplinary courses. “Wat betekent het bestaan van ‘vrije kunsten’ in de context van een professionele opleiding in de kunsten die geen exacte ‘producten’ kan afleveren? Hoogstens kan men jonge mensen op een intense manier begeleiden, hen het zelfvertrouwen schenken om er een goed oog in te hebben en te houden en het perspectief bieden dat ze later kunnen doorstromen als ‘kunstenaar’ in een ‘kunstenveld’, waarin vandaag meer en meer wazige kwaliteitscriteria circuleren en waar de kunstmarkt de norm en selectie overneemt.”
