40 Men go to war, women go to work. Women’s clothes took on a masculine militant look with the invention of shoulder pads. Every dress, blouse or jacket was fitted with shoulder pads that extended just past the edge of the shoulder. This made for a boxy or square neckline and shoulder angle.

Christian Dior gave the fashion world a necessary vitamin injection with its New look in 1947. Women got what they longed for femininity, luxury and a new approach to clothing. The new look required a handbag, a laced waist and huge amounts of fabric. The hat was very important. In the 40’s the skirt length crept up again, landed in the middle of the calf and the focus on the sleeves shifted up to the shoulders.

waist is in its natural place, but often you can see another focal point just above the hip. This is part of what is usually called the typical 40’s silhouette.

0 5 The time that somehow got to describe the whole retro and vintage trend. Fashion in the 50s was dominated by two schools, fashion from exclusive fashion houses and the newly emerged teenage fashion. The women wore costumes with matching handbags, wore well-combed knot hairstyles and pearl clips in their ears. Nylon stockings, corsets, highlighted waists and rocking skirts. But also elegant gloves, hat, large pearl earrings, jeans and a checkered shirt.

Christian Dior’s new look has played a major role in fashion history. Dior created his first couture collection with models that the American press came to name ”New Look” The new silhouette was luxurious and feminine with wide skirts, wasp waists and tight tops.

0 6 Clothes in the 60’s became not only a way of expressing themself but also a way of free themselfs.

During the 60’s a lot changed and the way of dressing also changed.

They wanted to leave the elegant and strict behind. Therefore, they began to dress youthfully and playfully instead. Women could now be seen wearing tights and miniskirts. Something that has not previously been socially accepted.

Fashion designers in the 60’s like Yves saint laurent started experimenting with new silhouettes, the A line shape. The silhouette was in focus together with knitwear, polo collars, lion yellow and the short hairstyle during the decade.

S STREET FASHION

During the 1960s youthful fashion began to be created. The previous decade, the 1950s, had been left behind when the elegant adult woman was the model for letting the teenager become a fashion icon instead.

Why they started to focus on a youthful style may have been due to the fact that fashion designers had now begun to shift the focus from the few wealthy people over to the public and the people on the streets - so this should be where street fashion is born. Haute couture had become less profitable as the wealthy group of clients shrank markedly.

LAST VINTAGE DECADE The main reason why the 60’s is the last vintage decade is that this is where we stop producing clothes on a small scale, in good qualities, with a sense of its time.

70 Early 1970s fashion was a quiet time. It brought together some of the best parts of the 60’s by perfecting and exaggerating them.

Some of the best clothes produced in the 1970s blended perfect fashion with hippies. Tunics and culottes were also very popular. Sometimes it was difficult to say which dresses were meant to be worn at home, and which were for going out on the streets.

The 70s was also the first decade where women can be seen wearing trousers in all areas of society. Over the course of the decade, the bright colors began to disappear more and more. Instead, earthy colors took over such as gray, white, brown and black.

80 By the 1980s, fashion had become international. French couture is no longer dominant, but its own clothing styles have been developed in all countries. Street fashion was highlighted on the viewing podium in the 80s together with brands like Vivienne Westwood, Giorgio Armani and Versace.

The fashion of the decade varied greatly.

Everything from aerobics sports fashion with colorful tights, hair bands and leg warmers to the evening glamor. The women fought for equality in groups and the women preferred to wear a suit, blazer with wide shoulders, knee length skirt and elegant pumps. The silhouette became more masculine and the new suits emphasized wide shoulders and narrow hips.

90 Fashion in the 90s can be summed up by the fact that there are several different styles, including what’s great fashion house shows and what comes from people in the city. Fashion could no longer be divided into two groups on what is fashion or not.

Fashion has become a way of to express their personality and no one needs to lock themselves into a single trend anymore.

STRAIGTH silhouette

The straight silhouette was very popular in the 1990s. Everything from dresses to pants and jackets would hang straight on the body. The classic blazer with wide shoulders from the late 80’s remained into the early 90’s and was popular among women over thirty-five.
