Rudi Benétik: “PREDRZNOČRNA!” Rudi Benétik je v svoji poetiki, skozi iskanja oblik in barv z resnicoljubnimi potezami linije in s pogledi v (ne)stvarnost prostora in dogajanja v njem, vseskozi ohranjal otroško elementarnost, da bi se mogel prepustiti nevidnemu toku energije, fluidu sveta in lastne duše. Vstopamo v svet, ki se ga ne zavedamo in ga le redko začutimo. Skozi ves njegov opus so slike uglašene z najsubtilnejšim naborom barv, identičnemu svetlobnemu pojavu v ozračju – mavrici, ki jo vidimo kot spektralne barve. Simbolično stanje loma in odboja sončnih žarkov, ki zrcalijo barve, lahko upodobi le umetnik s kultivirano refleksijo do stvarnega sveta in možnostjo začutiti nevidno energijo …

Ni naključje, da je Benétik prišel do točke, ko je zlil vse barve v pomenljivo belino, v tišino, da bi potem lahko izslikal magičnost črnin. Za pristne črnine, za mračenje slik, je uporabil saje, ostanke živega ognja iz peči v ateljeju, pomešal jih je z belimi pigmenti in akrilnim vezivom …

Kot pojasnjuje sam, napravi zaključne kompozicijske elemente »v potezah s sočno in nasičeno črnino kaligrafskega tuša«. Še sam je postal nad tem dejanjem presenečen, zato vzklik »Predrzno črna!«, ki ga je izbral za poimenovanje pričujoče serije. Nastale so slike, kjer so se asociacije na predmete in figure vedno bolj izgubljale, kar je presenetilo celo avtorja samega. Tudi gledalca slike uročijo, ga pritegnejo, čeprav jih lahko dojame le, če se je pripravljen odvrniti od izkustvenega sveta in se prepustiti intuiciji. Pred nami so sivine, vse te dimaste meglice, ki se zlivajo v beline, v tisto tiho nestvarnost … Potem pa jih preplavijo črna polja; sestopimo z neba, da bi se lahko potopili v globine oceana.

Črna barva je prasnov, materia prima, hkrati je in ni barva, slikarji pa jo imajo pogosto za kraljico vseh barv. Vasilij Kandinski jo imenuje praznina brez možnosti, večna tišina brez upanja. Črna je kot globoka voda: Homer vidi ocean črn.

Iz kaosa – teme vsega začetka je nastala noč, ki je prehajala v svetlobo stvarjenja, zato je črna tudi trebuh sveta in lesk črne barve odseva vse druge barve – svetlobe. V Visoki pesmi je črna simbol velike preizkušnje, muslimanski mistiki v njej vidijo božansko svetlobo. Lahko jo dojamemo kot najvišjo stopnjo ekstaze.

Lesket črnega je identičen lesketu belega; čeprav v nasprotju kot dan in noč se skupaj manifestirata jin in jang, dotikata se. Črno je žensko, zemeljsko in instinktivno, prav zato so nemara upodabljali podobe črnih devic in tudi črnih Madon, katere lik poznamo tudi na Koroškem v cerkvi sv. Ane v Koprivni, kjer črna Madona nosi v sebi vsaj toliko pridiha skrivnosti transcendentalnega, kot ga je imela v odnosu do vernikov, ki so jo častili.

Rudi Benétik izhaja prav iz takšnih prostorov in kolektivnih spominov, iz tistega arhaičnega sveta polnega starožitnosti, ki ga spoznavamo ne le v zapisih in pripovedih skozi jezik, temveč se nam izrisuje tudi v vizualizacijah: skozi podobo krajine in njenih ljudi. Benétikovo duhovno kodo razberemo, če poznamo Koroško, ki nam jo pomaga razumeti literarna slika »Angel pozabe« koroške pisateljice Maje Haderlap. Čeprav je Benétik doživel tudi druge kulture in jih znal začutiti, kot npr. žarenje in barvitost mistične Indije, pa tudi njeno nasprotje – bleščavi New York, mesto tolikih nasprotij, obema je posvetil pomenljiv cikel del (»Delhi Days« in »Papayas«), nosi v sebi vso mistiko in kontroverznost rodne Koroške in drugih predelov, ki so mu bli-

zu: npr. Goriške in njene »Čarne Soče«, potem ljudi in krajine ob reki Muri …Slike pričajo o umetnikovi vpetosti v te duhovne pokrajine, v njena tkiva in zavest.

Nastajajo telesa slik, kjer je vse v imenu (poimenovanju, jeziku) zapisano, s krvjo podčrtano in s prstnim odtisom zapečateno. Tudi dobesedno, saj se umetnik veliko ukvarja s simboliko znakov in črk, etimološkimi pomeni imen, kolažira (črno-beli kolaži na stenskih modulih iz topolovine ter na praznih škatlah za čevlje), išče strukture sveta in utripanje življenja ter jim prida svojo srčno kri s kapljico rdeče, oranžne in žafranaste barve, v vseh tistih različnih odtenkih rumene barve, ki jih lahko razbiramo v njihovi ambivalentni simboliki.

Enako pomembne kot barve in oblike v strukturi telesa slike so tudi umetnikove geste. So spontane in izrisujejo sublimacijo stvarnosti, ki je spomin in duh časa hkrati. Njegove poteze s čopičem, risalom, naključne oblike trgank (iz papirja in drugih materialov), ki jih vgrajuje na površine, so najbolj prepoznavna komponenta slikovnega polja, so ornament duhovnega tkanja, ki se ujame z barvnimi naglasi in pomeni. So vzorci harmoničnih struktur, so konceptualne pisave in pomenljivi znaki.

Na slikah vlada posebna duhovna atmosfera: spojitev črnega in belega prida prevladujoče sive meglice, tiste sivine, ki so prav zaradi srednje vrednosti barvne tonalnosti najbolj človeške. In kaj je ustvarjanje in naše srečevanje z umetniškimi deli, če ni dejanje za človeka, za njegovo človečnost?! Odgovor vedno dobimo pri vživetju v umetniška dela, zato povabilo, da vstopimo v Benétikove slike-telesa, v ta polja spoznanja.

“C H E E K Y

In his poetics and constant search for forms and colours through truthful lines and gazes into the (non)reality of the environment and the events within it, Rudi Benétik always preserved his childlike elementary qualities which enabled him to be overcome by the invisible flow of energy, the fluid world and his soul. Through his paintings we entering a world we are unaware of, a world we rarely feel. Throughout his opus the paintings are harmonised by the most subtle choice of colours, which reflect the light phenomenon that appears in the sky, the rainbow that presents itself through the colours of the spectrum. The symbolism of the fractures and reflections of sunrays, which are reflected in breathtaking colours, can be depicted only by an artist with a cultivated reflection of the real world and the capability of feeling the invisible energy … It is not a coincidence that Benétik reached a point, in which he poured all the colours into a meaningful whiteness, a silence, only so that he could then paint the magic blackness. In order to create genuine black, which he used to make his paintings darker, he used soot, the remains of the lively fire that burned in the furnace in his studio, which he mixed with white pigment and acrylic binding … As he explained, he performed the final compositional elements in »strokes with a rich and saturated black of calligraphy ink«.

Even he was surprised by this act, thus he exclaimed »Cheeky black!«, which he also chose as the title of this series.

Paintings emerged in which the associations linked to objects and figures became increasingly lost, and this took by surprise even the artist himself.

The viewer becomes transfixed by the paintings, he is pulled in, even though he can only understand them fully if he is willing to renounce the world of experience and let himself be overcome by intuition. We constantly face greys, all these smoky mists that merge into whites, into the silent unreality … Then the greys are swarmed by black fields, we descend from the sky and submerge into the depths of the ocean.

BLACK colour is a primordial matter, materia prima, it is and is not a colour, and yet painters often treat it as the king of all colours. Vasilij Kandinsky believed black to be nothingness without possibility, an eternal silence without hope. Black is like deep water: Homer believed the ocean to be black.

The night emerged from chaos, from the dark beginnings, and this night was transformed by the light of creation, which is why black is the underbelly of the world and the sparkle of the black colour reflects all other colours – light. In the Song of Songs black is the symbol of the great ordeal, while the Muslim mystics see the divine light in it. It can be understood as the highest possible level of ecstasy. The glitter of black is identical to the glitter of white; even though in opposition like day and night, they manifest themselves as Yin and Yang, touching on each other.

also be found in Carinthia, for instance in the church of St. Anne in Koprivna, where the black Madonna carries within her at least as much of the mysterious transcendental as she carried in her relation with her worshippers.

Rudi Benétik stems from such spaces and collective memories, from the ancient world of antiquity, which we are learning about not only from the records and stories told through language, but also through visualisations: through images of landscapes and their people. Benétik’s spiritual code can be read if we are acquainted with Carinthia, which we can better understand through the literary image of the »Angel of Oblivion« written by the Carinthian writer Maja Haderlap. We must also keep in mind that Benétik appreciates and has experienced other cultures and knows how to feel them.

Even though he has experienced the glow and colourfulness of the mystical India as well as its opposite, the shiny and sparkling New York, the city of endless opposites, and he dedicated each of them a meaningful series (»Delhi Days« and »Papayas«), he carries within him all the mysticism and controversy of his birth place Carinthia and other parts close to his heart: the Gorica region and its »magical Soča river«, and the people and landscapes alongside the Mura river … The paintings speak volumes about the artist’s integration into these spiritual landscapes, into their tissue and conscious-

ness. We can see emerging bodies of paintings, in which everything is written in the name (language), underlined with blood and sealed with a fingerprint. The paintings are also literary, for the artist likes exploring the symbolism of signs and letters, the etymological meanings of names, and he creates collages (black and white collages on poplar wood wall modules and empty shoe boxes), he looks for structures in this world and tries to feel the world’s pulse which he splashes with his heartfelt blood and a spot of red, orange and saffron, in all the various shades of yellow that we can experience in his ambivalent symbolism.

The artist’s gestures carry a similar weight to the colours and forms in the structure of the painting’s body. His gestures are spontaneous and they draw the sublimation of reality, which is simultaneously a memory as well as a ghost of time. His strokes made with a brush or a pen, the random shapes of the tear outs (from paper and other materials), which he includes in the surfaces, are the most recognisable component of his painting fields, they are the ornament of his spiritual weaving, which is captured by the colourful accentuations and meanings. They are patterns of harmonious structures, conceptual writings and meaningful signs.

A special spiritual atmosphere prevails across the paintings: the merging black and white adds to the prevailing grey mists; the greyness is the most human colour due to its middle value of colour tonality. And what are creativity and our encounters with works of art, if not an act for mankind, for our humanity?! We can always find a response when falling into a work of art, thus I am prolonging an invitation to step into Benétik’s paintings-bodies, into these fields of his insights.

Auch er selbst war über diesen schöpferischen Akt erstaunt, daher der Ausruf »Freches schwarz!«, den er für den Titel der vorliegenden Serie gewählt hat. Es entstanden Bilder, in denen die Assoziationen mit Gegenständen und Figuren immer mehr verloren gingen, was sogar den Künstler selbst überraschte. Auch den Betrachter ziehen die Bilder in ihren Bann, sie nehmen ihn ganz gefangen, obwohl er sie nur erfassen kann, wenn er bereit ist, sich von der Erfahrungswelt abzukehren und sich der Intuition zu überlassen. Wir sehen das Grau, all diese rauchfarbenen Nebel, die zu Weiß, zu dieser stillen Unwirklichkeit 12

Rudi Benétik: Rudi Benétik hat in seiner Malkunst, über die Suche nach Formen und Farben mit wahrheitsliebenden Strichen und Blicken in die (Un-)Wirklichkeit des Raums und des Geschehens in diesem, stets eine kindliche Ursprünglichkeit bewahrt, um sich dem unsichtbaren Energiefluss, dem Fluidum der Welt und der eigenen Seele hingeben zu können. Wir betreten eine Welt, deren wir uns nicht bewusst sind und die wir nur selten erspüren. Seine Bilder stimmen durch sein ganzes Schaffen hindurch mit der subtilsten Farbenpalette überein, die mit der Lichterscheinung in der Atmosphäre, mit dem Regenbogen, den wir als Spektralfarben sehen, identisch ist. Den symbolischen Zustand von Brechung und Spiegelung der Sonnenstrahlen, die die Farben spiegeln, kann nur ein Künstler mit einer kultivierten Reflexion über die reale Welt und mit der Möglichkeit darstellen, die unsichtbare Energie zu erspüren. Es ist kein Zufall, dass Benétik zu dem Punkt gelangte, als er alle Farben zu einem bedeutungsvollen Weiß verschmolzen hat, zu einer Stille, um dann das Magische des Schwarz malen zu können. Für das echte Schwarz, das Verdunkeln der Bilder, verwendete er Ruß, Reste eines lebendigen Feuers im Ofen seines Ateliers, die er mit weißen Pigmenten und Acrylbinder vermischte. Wie er selbst erläutert, entstehen die abschließenden Kompositionselemente »in Strichen mit dem kräftigen und gesättigten Schwarz der kalligrafischen Tusche«.

Die schwarze Farbe ist der Urstoff, die materia prima, sie ist zugleich Farbe und Nichtfarbe, die Maler halten sie häufig für die Königin aller Farben.

Wassily Kandinsky bezeichnet sie als Nichts und Stille. Das Schwarz ist wie das tiefe Wasser: Homer sieht den Ozean schwarz. Aus dem Chaos, dem Dunkel allen Anfangs, entstand die Nacht, die in das Licht der Schöpfung überging, deshalb ist das Schwarz auch der Bauch der Welt, und der Glanz der schwarzen Farbe spiegelt alle anderen Farben wider – des Lichts. Im Hohelied ist das Schwarz das Symbol der großen Versuchung, muslimische Mystiker sehen in ihm das göttliche Licht. Wir können es als höchste Stufe der Ekstase begreifen. Der Glanz des Schwarz ist mit dem Glanz des Weiß identisch; obwohl einen Gegensatz wie Tag und Nacht bildend, manifestieren sich, berühren sich Yin und Yang. Das Schwarz ist weiblich, irdisch und instinktiv, und vielleicht wurden gerade deshalb schwarze Jungfrauen und auch schwarze Madonnen dargestellt, deren Figur wir auch in Koroška in der Kirche der hl. Anna in Koprivna kennen, wo der Schwarzen Madonna mindestens so viel geheimnisvolles Flair des Transzendentalen innewohnt, als sie im Bezug auf die Gläubigen hatte, die sie anbeteten.

Rudi Benétik stammt gerade aus einem solchen Kulturraum und kollektiven Erinnerungen, aus jener archaischen Welt voller Altertümer, die wir nicht nur in den Aufzeichnungen und Erzählungen durch die Sprache kennen lernen, sondern auch in den Visualisierungen sichtbar wird: durch das Bild der Landschaft und ihrer Menschen.

Benétiks spirituellen Code entziffern wir, wenn wir Kärnten kennen, das uns das literarische Bild »Engel des Vergessens« der Kärntner Schriftstellerin Maja Haderlap zu verstehen hilft. Obwohl Benétik auch andere Kulturen erlebte und sie zu erspüren verstand wie zum Beispiel das Glühen und die Farbenpracht des mystischen Indien als auch dessen Gegenteil, das glänzende New York, eine Stadt so vieler Gegensätze, beiden hat er einen bedeutungsvollen Zyklus von Arbeiten (»Delhi Days«

und »Papayas«) gewidmet, ist er von aller Mystik und Kontroversität seiner Heimat Kärnten und anderer ihm nahe stehender Gegenden erfüllt: beispielsweise von Goriška und seiner zauberhaften Soča (»Čarna Soča«), von den Menschen und der Landschaft an der Mur … Die Bilder zeugen von der Einbeziehung des Künstlers in diese geistigen Landschaften, in ihre Texturen und ihr Bewusstsein. Es entstehen Bildkörper, wo alles im Titel (in der Bezeichnung, Sprache) festgehalten ist, mit Blut hervorgehoben und mit einem Fingerabdruck besiegelt. Auch wortwörtlich, beschäftigt sich doch der Künstler viel mit der Symbolik der Zeichen und Buchstaben, den etymologischen Bedeutungen der Namen, er stellt Collagen her (schwarzweiße Collagen auf Wandmodulen aus Pappelholz und auf leeren Schuhschachteln), sucht die Strukturen der Welt und das Pulsieren des Lebens und fügt ihnen sein Herzblut mit einem Tropfen roter, oranger und safrangelber Farbe hinzu, in all jenen unterschiedlichen Nuancen des Gelb, die wir in ihrer ambivalenten Symbolik entziffern können.

Auf den Bildern herrscht eine besondere geistige Atmosphäre: Die Verbindung von Schwarz und Weiß setzt überwiegend graue Nebel dazu, jene Grautöne, die gerade wegen des Mittelwertes der Farbtonalität am menschlichsten sind. Und was bedeutet das Schaffen und unsere Begegnung mit den Kunstwerken, wenn es sich nicht um einen Akt für den Menschen handelt, seine Humanität?! Eine Antwort bekommen wir stets bei der Einfühlung in die Kunstwerke, daher die Einladung, Benétiks Bilderwelt, diese Felder der Erkenntnis, zu betreten.

Genauso wichtig wie die Farben und Formen in der Struktur des Bildkörpers sind auch die Gesten des Künstlers. Sie sind spontan und zeichnen die Sublimierung der Wirklichkeit, die zugleich Gedächtnis und Geist der Zeit ist.

Seine Striche mit Pinsel, Zeichenstift, die zufälligen Formen der Schnipsel (aus Papier und anderem Material), die er in die Oberflächen einbaut, stellen die unverwechselbarste Komponente des Bildfeldes dar, sie sind das Ornament der geistigen Textur, das mit den farblichen Akzenten und Bedeutungen übereinstimmt. Sie sind Muster harmonischer Strukturen, konzeptuelle Schriften und bedeutungsvolle Zeichen.

Koroškem, kjer tudi živi in dela. 1985 diplomiral na Akademiji za likovno umetnost v Ljubljani, pri profesorjih Andreju Jemcu, Janezu Berniku in Bogdanu Borčiću.

Njegova dela lahko vidimo v zbirkah evropskih muzejev in galerij, in so bila razstavljena v Avstriji, Belgiji, Danski, Franciji, Hrvaški, Indiji, Italiji, Južni Koreji, Luxembourgu, Madžarski, Nemčiji, na Poljskem, Slovaškem, v Sloveniji, Španiji in ZDA.

Was born in Jaunstein/Podjuna (South Carinthia) in 1960 and graduated from the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts in 1985 after studying with Professors Andrej Jemec, Janez Bernik and Bogdan Borčić.

His works can be seen in European Museums and Exhibition Galleries and have been exhibited in Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, India, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Slowakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain and USA.

Geboren 1960 in Jaunstein/Podjuna (Kärnten), wo er lebt und arbeitet. 1985 Diplom an der Akademie der bildenden Künste in Ljubljana bei den Professoren Andrej Jemec, Janez Bernik and Bogdan Borčić.

Seine Arbeiten sind in Sammlungen europäischer Museen und Galerien zu sehen; und in Österreich, Belgien, Dänemark, Deutschland, Frankreich, Italien, Kroatien, Luxemburg, Polen, Slowakei, Slowenien, Spanien, Süd-Korea, Ungarn, Indien und USA, ausgestellt.
