THE CITY LIBRARY Libraries are for everybody!

Turku City Library is a modern library that provides services every day of the year. At our libraries you can for instance prepare for your exams, borrow books for leisure reading, read Finnish newspapers with ePress and keep up with world news with PressReader. In addition to familiar material you can also borrow board games, musical instruments, seasonal tickets as well as photographic art.

Make use of our extensive collection of e-books and e-audiobooks in the web library at vaskilibraries.fi. Visit your nearest library to acquire a library card which may also be used as a Culture Card. As a Culture Card holder, you will receive up-to-date information on cultural activities in Turku, e.g. affordable theatre and concert tickets.

The library also offers a variety of events free of charge. Why not try an interesting lecture, an art exhibition or a language cafĂŠ in Finnish?

CITY THEATRE Spring places women in the spotlight: one takes her place as the matron of the Niskavuori household, the other spreads joy to the people around her in the musical Amélie. We will also hear women’s stories from the home front in the new play Toinen tuntematon. Choose your favorite from almost 30 plays, concerts and comedy shows. EXHIBITIONS TURKU CASTLE • A Few Words about Women until 8 March The exhibition depicts the lives of middle-class women and Countess Kristina Katarina Stenbock, who lived in Turku Castle, in 17th century. It focuses on the intricate and rich life stories of six women. They ran successful businesses and worked as notable employers, in addition to being wives and mothers.

WAM – WÄINÖ AALTONEN MUSEUM OF ART • Anneli Nygren – Fan Academy 7 Feb–24 May The retrospective exhibition shows the works of a Finnish media art pioneer and her almost 50-yearlong career. The exhibition includes Nygren’s videos and films as well as film manuscripts, drawings and paintings from the early stages of her career until today.

• Hyäryllistä 7 Feb–24 May The exhibition shows a cross section of the works of the Hyäryllistä artist group. The insightful works combine mundane materials with objects to create something new and often humorous.

YOUTH SERVICES ANSWERS TO MANY QUESTIONS An information and guidance service Nuorten Turku for youngsters under 29 is located in Ohjaamo.

It provides information on many topics such as studying, searching for employment or housing, hobbies or international opportunities. You will have help free of charge e.g. with filling out forms or creating a CV. Contact information (in Finnish): turku.fi/nuortenturku NEW HOBBIES AND DELICACIES WITH POCKET MONEY AT VIMMA Youth’s arts and activities center Vimma (Aurakatu 16) is a house of multiple possibilities. You can get a wide range of new hobbies. You can try e.g. textile printing or pottery. You can also find several concerts and youth events here. On the ground floor you can find Kafé Vimma where you can enjoy delicacies with very affordable prices.

More information (in Finnish): turku.fi/vimma SKATE IN CUBE, NO MATTER THE WEATHER Skateboard hall Cube welcomes all skateboarders, whether you’re just starting out or an active skateboarder. The staff are happy to offer advice and guidance, but you can also just do your own thing.

Cube also has dedicated time slots for kick scooter riders and BMX cyclists. The hall has boards and helmets available for rent.

DO YOU WANT TO RELAX AT A COTTAGE, SWIM AND GO TO THE SAUNA? The City of Turku youth services rents out four beautiful camping areas and the cabins on them for a fair price. The camping areas include Vienola in Rymättylä, Tippsund in Taivassalo and Ahtela in Sauvo, as well as the Nukkumajoki cabin in Inari.

These facilities can be rented by organisations, associations and private persons. All camping areas are located in exceptionally beautiful sites, in the heart of nature and near water.
