Message From President -- Thomas Stewart As I write this, we have just a few days until graduation ceremonies begin. Needless to say, this is a time that combines both a great haste to get everything completed and anticipation of the beginning of summer break. While it is tempting to think of turning in the grades and tuning out for a while, I have one thing to ask: this summer, please check your e-mail. At least occasionally. We’re entering this summer without a new contract. As chapter president, I’ve been informed by State APSCUF that there will not be a contract extension; instead, all efforts are centered on reaching a full contract agreement. APSCUF and PASSHE are still conducting Interest-Based Bargaining sessions, including two early this month. Progress is being made, and APSCUF does expect to have a new contract agreement completed, although it may not happen before the June 30th expiration of our current contract. Because of this, you will be receiving important e-mails from me and from State APSCUF about developments with our contract. One development—the phased retirement side letter—has already been announced. Next week, you will receive in your KU e-mail inbox a message from State APSCUF that will give members an opportunity to vote on the phased retirement plan. Later in the summer, as contract negotiations proceed, you will receive updates both through your KU e-mail as well as your personal e-mail. Your local chapter office maintains a list of members’ personal e-mail addresses. If your personal e-mail has changed, or if you haven’t submitted one, please send it to Sarra Guisse in our local office at apscufku@kutztown.edu. APSCUF is an organization centered on its members. Your voice—and your vote—is important, so please check in periodically to get the latest information. I will be accessible all summer, so if you have any questions, please feel free to reach me through the local chapter office or via e-mail at sthomas@apscuf.org. Have a great last week of the semester and a wonderful summer. In solidarity, Tom Stewart 1
