A house is built from the foundation up, not the rooftop down. In the simplest terms, the building process is foundation, walls, roof. KU APSCUF is currently in the process of re-building our house. And if we want the structure to be solid and long-lasting, we must focus and prioritize. We cannot build a house from the roof down. Here is what I mean. Our labor issue is the contract negotiation and that must be our priority right now. You elected four new and relatively inexperienced leaders, and we have taken on a monstrous task of mobilizing and preparing for a possible strike with very little time while simultaneously trying to rebuild and re-energize our members AND deal with many outstanding and important issues such as promotion and tenure guidelines, among others. We simply cannot do everything all at once. In order to build the foundation of our house, we must focus on this labor issue of a contract first. Everything else must come second. So, if you want, think of it as a funnel. In the mouth of the funnel is strike prep, mobilization, meetings and updates around contract negotiations. Swirling around in the larger top part of the funnel are all of the other issues and tasks. Not off the table, not forgotten, but not the current priority. We must get through this contract negotiation first. I can be KU Proud
