Introduction This booklet introduces the activities to the architectural design workshop with the theme “Interactive Smart Bus Stop and Visitor Information Shelter” by students from Hanoi Architectural University and Swinburne University (Australia) from the 16/12/2019 to 04/01/2020. Hoạt động nằm trong sự hợp tác giữa hai trường và hứa hẹn sẽ là một sự gắn bó lâu dài trong tương lai.

I. INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP HAU - SWINBURNE ARCHITECTURE DESIGN WORKSHOP Interactive Smart Bus Stop and Visitor Information Shelter I.Participants: Students of Hanoi Architectural University, Swinburne University from year 2 upwards; with a total of 33 students II. Design Project: Students work in group of 5 on a small/quick design project in Hanoi: Interactive Smart Bus and Visitor Information Shelter to be located in one of Hanoi’s streets or public spaces. Groups will select and focus one of the streets or public spaces in Hanoi’s French Quarters. This project addresses the theme of making ‘smarter’ and more liveable city through innovative design ideas for a ‘smart’ bus shelter plus local community/visitor interaction/information hub in major cities in Vietnam, such as Hanoi. This project will provide a designed space with smart infrastructure to improve public and local community everyday life experiences. This project also hope to contribute to the on-going local attempt to create more efficient and safer public transportation systems. In addition to the traditional role of a bus shelter this project offers a ground-up design solution for an urban public space that also acts as a local community hub with a range of smart and interactive platforms and services. This includes phone charging ports, Wi-Fi and interactive smart screens providing information such as bus timetable, key cultural sites, journey planner, local maps, weather, news and local events. Other user-friendly and design features include interactive information panels/screens, kid play facilities and digitalized public artworks and bicycle racks. Functional requirements: The exact functional requirements for this space will be
discussed and decided within your groups. But the designed site will be used as Interactive Smart Bus and Visitor Information Shelter that should include the following functions: Bus shelter with sitting; Recharging station, Small kid-play facilities; Some other possible functions; Small retail kiosk; One uni-sex public toilet; Drinkable water tap; Bicycle racks or Any other spaces that support visitors and local communities. You can also think of more global function/uses that are involved in urgent social and welfare issues such as homeless and temporary shelters etc for street kids and street venders. As this an interactive spaces, your design should conceptually and visually show how users interact with the spaces and facilities that you include. Also as a visitor information space your design should conceptually and visually explain what types of information your spaces will present. This mean that group need to do research on the site and surroundings context. III. Site Visit and Observation Each group will need to select a site for their projects. Students need to make site visits and observation to ‘feel’ and record the characteristics of the place as manifested in the everyday activities, traffic flow, people movement, the use of street spaces, local architecture and cultural and historical landmarks on the streets and or public spaces. You can select an existing bus stop as the project site. Site visit, observation and record needs to be done at the selected street, public street and potential site for the project. Information from the site visits then will be used as design inspiration and to inform your designs. Read the given reading materials to get inspiration for site observation

V. Assessment Requirement
It is useful to do online research on ‘folding space/architecture’ or ‘parametric design/spaces’ as options to get inspiration for your design. But the project is also open to other sources of ideas.
Groups will present work on the second week of the tour. Each group needs to make a “quick” design proposal that includes the following: - A photomontage that give a visual information/impression about the site and surrounding. - Rough loose drawing of the street plan showing location of the project - Conceptual design, process and developmen; Information that your space will present to users; Plans, sections, elevations; A sectional perspective or axonometric drawing; Perspective drawings/rendering; A1 panel include selected images that best show your design
Also it is useful to look up some innovative design for bus stops, bus shelters around the world available in a number of online recourses such as www.dezeen.com, www. archdaily.com, www.designboom.com, etc You can also do online research on some recent buildings by emerging Vietnamese architects to get inspiration regarding the uses of local elements and materials.
