Strategic Planning - Creating Our Future Together In April 2016, the College of Veterinary Medicine launched a comprehensive Strategic Planning initiative, to develop a new vision for our future. The College initially surveyed all faculty, staff and students, in addition to alumni and other external stakeholders. The resulting ~1,000 responses identified six critical areas which were reviewed in depth by Strategy Focus Teams. Following further feedback, these teams’ recommendations were prioritized and adopted as the College’s Strategic Priorities to guide our decisions over the next three years.

Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine is dedicated to the advancement of health and welfare of animals, people, the environment, and the veterinary profession through excellence in teaching, research, service and outreach. We are committed to a professional degree program with broad training opportunities across a comprehensive range of companion and exotic animals, and livestock species. Our focus is on initiatives that address important societal needs at a local, national and global level.

Lower Cost of Education for DVM Degree To support the long term-sustainability of the veterinary profession, address student debt-load and enhance their wellbeing, we will aggressively identify steps to significantly reduce the aggregate cost of education for students earning a DVM degree at KSU. We shall: • Create an efficient financial plan to maximize the impact of our resources • Increase the college’s scholarship endowment as our No. 1 development priority • Evaluate options to reduce the time required to obtain a DVM degree, that will reduce educational cost, without adversely impacting educational quality

Outstanding Food Animal Programs Differentiate KSU CVM through highly coordinated outstanding Food Animal programs, with an emphasis on cattle, to attract students, faculty, staff and funding. • Increase Food Animal education opportunities, through curricular flexibility. • Using enhanced outreach, expand collaboration opportunities with practices, producers, ranchers, and state/ federal government agencies. • Focus on applied and impactful research that is responsive to local, national and international food-related issues.

Responsive, Collaborative Research Enterprise • Target collaborative research opportunities and funding in areas of animal infectious disease, food safety and security, and comparative translational medicine • Invest in strategic hires to enhance the college’s responsiveness to animal and human global health issues • Conduct an external review of the college’s graduate programs
