Hi! I’m Kezia. I graduated from DAAP, University of Cincinnati in 2019. I have been working in a design firm in Bali ever since then. The projects that I’ve worked on have mostly been residentials or villas, but I have had the opportunity to work on some workplace designs. I also enjoy doing graphic design on the side. While I may not have a degree in it- I learned a lot through making presentations for different types of projects at school and at work.

The island paradise of Bali has come to be known for its natural beauty and varied landscapes filled with rugged coastlines, lush rice fields, dense jungles, and picturesque beaches. Balinese homes typically incorporate a more open design; utilizing many windows and sliding doors that blur the boundaries between the inside/outside space and introduce ample natural light.

The client’s preferred style is Classical Interior with heavy profiling, exaggerated lines on furniture, and intricate design. While this design style is considered widely appealing in many parts of the world, it starkly contrasts with typical Balinese styles and designs. After multiple consultations and iterations, the client decided that the most harmonious design for her home would be modern style with carefully applied classical accents.
The master bedroom is located directly across from the dining/living area. As you enter the room, the bed is on the left side of the room facing East with floor-toceiling windows and doors that open up to the garden.
The highlight of this room is the multi-functional millwork that triples as a media center, book shelf, and cover for the AC unit right above the door to the walkin closet. This gives an opportunity to incorporate some profiling to introduce the classically-styled elements into the space.
While the room is spacious, colors are kept light and feminine to allow the space to open up even more. Mirrored wardrobe doors have been utilized to open up the narrow walkway of the walk-in closet. This also allows the light coming in to travel deeper into the space and create a more pleasing lighting throughout while getting ready.

The client requested that her kids to have their own space since she often has coworkers and friends around. This layout is designed in a way that gives everyone their own privacy. Besides the darker grey accent wall in the second floor living area, the same color palette is used throughout to make the spaces feel cohesive.

w residence 011 The first iteration of the kids’ rooms had everything on the same floor--including the bed, study, wardrobe, and bathroom. While everything fit, the original layout felt slightly claustrophobic. We found out that we are able to open up the attic space and loved the idea of having a loft-vibe for the kids’ rooms. While the wife wanted a classic interior look, the husband wanted a modern design. After a couple of consultations and iterations they agreed on having a classical style wardrobe and modern bathrooms.

Inspired by Will Meyrick, a Scottish-born chef who found his love for Asian food while traveling through Asia, the design of this restaurant aims to capture the essence of Balinese cuisine and culture through the use of materials commonly used in Indonesia and colors that represents Balinese cooking and traditions.

teras 025 The circulation of the space mimics the undulating movement of rice paddies, which are commonly found in Bali. Rather than adding shapes and forms to the space, the plan ‘carves’ out its form from the architecture itself, exactly like how rice paddies are formed. Platform banquette seating all around the perimeter of the interior are designed to enhance and amplify the rice paddy theme. There is only one entrance to the restaurant and it is on the North side. As you enter - there is a curved wall which will naturally lead you to the hostess area. To enter the bar and main dining area you then have to pass by the indoor/ outdoor dining space which again highlights the undulating movement of rice paddies.

Materials chosen reflect inspirations taken from the nature of the island itself. Bali is known for its natural beauty; ranging from the mountainous north-central part of the island, to the sandy beaches along the coasts. Most importantly, people visit Bali for its tropical and relaxing vibes.
Beige natural stones are selected for the flooring and wall finish, with a dark wood ceiling to create a more homey and warm feeling. The bar is made from teal fireclay tiles, which creates a high contrast between the space surrounding it and making it the focal point of the room.
