Working as part of a design team delivering highly sustainable buildings. My responsibilities included: producing design and access statements, visuals, drawings, assisting with planning applications and all in house 3D printing, producing presentation models. I worked across a range of projects and sectors including the adaptive re-use of Swansea Palace Theatre, student housing schemes and an industrial expansion project, which I also visited and assisted with initial surveying.

Howden Russell Architects, Sowerby Bridge - 1-week work experience 2015 Gave me further insight into the role of an architect which helped confirm my decision to study architecture.

5th Year, Thesis Project Group: Calum Luke, Kiran S Birring Working as a pair, our project tack led the plastic waste crisis on the University of Liverpool campus. We proposed a series of develop ments to create a circular econ omy of plastic waste on campus. In summary: We proposed the refurbishment of the delipidated Derby & Hartley Buildings, bring ing them up to date with current fire and accessibility standards. These newly refurbished spac es would be used by the Univer sity for teaching and research.

4 Liverpool Plastic Innovation Factory

Secondly, the Plastic Innovation Factory, the centre piece of our pro ject provides space for the storage, sorting, and processing of campus waste plastic into building elements,

5 such as cladding. These materials alongside the waste from an exist ing demolition site to the rear of the Derby & Hartley would be used to construct our new build elements. The factory also houses large ad justable workshops for a variety of ments allowing research students to live on site at reduced rates thanks to the modular recycled construction system. A range of communal spaces and terraces are provided to allow a sense of com munity and promote well-being. research projects to take place. The second new build element is a tower on Brownlow Hill that houses a public café, library, and double height exhibition space. 6 Óbuda Island Shipyard

Above Conceptual Diagram, encompassing the islands industrial heritage and the projects focus on reuse / recycling.

4th Year, Semester 1 Solo Project Located on Óbuda Island, Buda pest, this project was inspired by my interests in the possibilities of reusing and recycling waste to develop design solutions to ur ban and social issues. It looked to develop the decaying island, which is home to one of Eu rope’s largest music festivals for a week each year, Sziget Festival. The island had a long history of shipbuilding which has since ceased, leaving it neglected with many brownfield sites. These sites provide suitable foundations to de velop new public facilities and qual ity green spaces. A few miles north of the island lays a ship graveyard, I proposed to use the repurposed material to create a new public playground inspired by Superuse Studios’, ‘Wikado Playground’. Secondly a series of repurposed Gantry Cranes are proposed to create a new pedestrianised and cycle route through the island, con necting it to both Buda and Pest. These developments could be come a catalyst to further develop the islands brownfield sites with quality green spaces for yearround enjoyment and create a new backdrop for Sziget Festival.

4th Year, Semester 2 Group: Calum Luke, Krishan Patel, Kiran S Birring Working alongside two others, we further developed a propos al to reintegrate the island within the wider city and social context. We proposed a new ferry terminal that would allow the island to act as a transport hub along the Danube, paying homage to Budapest’s his torical links with great European cit ies along the river such as Vienna and Belgrade. The proposal utilised a structural glulam frame with precast concrete floor slabs and imple mented a series of passive design strategies and sustainable technol ogies, which in practice could help the building be carbon positive. This was developed alongside a multi-function pedestrianised bridge through the island. Recon necting the island to the wider so cial context, offering new links to Buda and a link to the Pest side that was previously convoluted.
