01 CHROMESTHESIA

Design IV | Spring 2024 | Professor Rodriguez

“Chromesthesia” delves into the sensory phenomenon of sound-color synesthesia, influenced by the vibrant music culture of Austin, Texas. Informed by firsthand accounts of chromesthetic experiences, this project aims to recreate the sensation within a physical space, using dynamic lighting, fluid shapes inspried by sound waves, and interactive technology. By immersing users in a multisensory environment where sound and color intertwine, the design offers a tangible manifestation of chromosthesia, bridging the gap between auditory and visual perception.

SITE PLAN + ANALYSIS

Located at the corner of E. Cesar Chavez St. and Red Bluff Rd. in Austin, TX, the site is embedded in a culturally rich area defined by its strong connection to music, art, and local craftsmanship.

Design III | Fall 2023 | Professor Gaskins

This transit hub design explores the interplay between public and private spaces through a strategic separation of programmatic zones. By intergrating spatial hierarchies and screening elements, such as brise soleils, the design establishes a dynamic balance between collaboration and privacy. The hub features distinct yet interconnected areas including a collaborative lounge, a community gathering space, and focused work zones, each tailored to varying degrees of openness and interaction.

Design V | Fall 2024 | Professor Bravo

“Unfolding Interiors” reimagines student housing through adaptability, challenging the static norm of traditional living spaces. Centered around the concept of a portable poche, the design incorporates multifunctional walls and surfaces that unfold, expand, and slide to accommodate different needs. By creating a dynamic, ever-changing environment, the project responds to the realities of student life, where individuals from different backgrounds require flexible and personalized spaces. This approach supports a more inclusive and responsive living experience, redefining the way students interact with their environment.
