COVID-19 Safety Things at Kroc Center Hawaii may look a bit different, but we are finding our way forward by providing programs that can be held safely and effectively. Here's what to expect (subject to change with State mandates):

DAILY CLEANING: Equipment and high touch areas are sanitized throughout the day. SAFE ACCESS OAHU PROGRAM: In compliance with the City's Safe Access Oahu Order, we request all patrons 12 years of age and older to provide either A) proof of full vaccination along with valid identification or B) proof of negative COVID-19 test result taken 48 hours before each entry along with valid identification. This is required for access to our Safe Access Zones: Fitness Center, indoor group ex, Athletics Gymnasium, dance programs (KDA/hula), and events. Purchase a Guest Pass to gain access to the Aquatics Center, Health & Wellness Center, and Common Areas during open hours. Guest Passes are available for non-members/ visitors to purchase at the Member Services Desk. Guest Pass Rates:

• CLASS REGISTRATION • Programs and activities at Kroc Center Hawaii are open to everyone. Enrolling for program classes does not require Kroc Center Membership. 1. Sign-up and pay for most Kroc classes online by visiting www.krocsales.org/#/hawaii. Some specialty classes are not online and require sign-up in-person at the Member Services Desk. Kroc Dance Academy Pre-Professional classes require level testing and placement prior to registration. 2. Or, turn in completed program enrollment form along with payment to the Member Services Desk. If class is full, you will be added to a wait list. Payment will be processed only if space becomes available. Classes are available on a first come, first served basis.

• CLASS CANCELLATIONS • Full payment is expected at the time of enrollment. No refunds are given unless the program is cancelled by Kroc Center Hawaii. If the program is cancelled by Kroc Center Hawaii, you will be refunded in full. Cash payments will be refunded as a check.

Age Guidelines

For the safety and security of all members, please be aware of the following age guidelines:

• GENERAL FACILITY & AQUATICS • (INCLUDING OPEN SWIM)

(INCLUDING GROUP FITNESS CLASSES)

Children ages 10 and younger must have an adult (18+) present.

Children ages 11 and younger not permitted.

Children ages 11 & up may attend a structured program without an adult.

Children ages 12–15 are permitted with an adult (18+) present after completing teen orientation. Children ages 16+ permitted without adult supervision.

Safety Guidelines: Protecting the Mission The Salvation Army is dedicated to keeping children and vulnerable adults safe from physical, emotional and sexual harm. We refer to our safety efforts as “Protecting The Mission.” Protecting The Mission guidelines ensure The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center emphasizes safety in the following ways: • Salvation Army personnel (officers, employees, and volunteers) are trained in child abuse prevention and are mandated reporters of suspected child/vulnerable adult abuse. • Salvation Army personnel undergo criminal background checks. • Adults accessing the facility may be screened against public sexual offender registry. • Instructors are trained in appropriate interactions with Kroc members to enhance learning by creating a safe and inviting environment. • Programs involving children are closely monitored to ensure adequate supervision and safe interactions between Kroc personnel and children.

As part of our commitment to the safety of children and vulnerable persons, Kroc Center Hawaii reserves the right to consult public sources to determine whether any member or guest of any member poses an unreasonable risk of harm to its patrons, staff, or visitors. • Kroc Center Hawaii constantly adapts and enhances safety protocols to adjust to needs. Members and guests are encouraged to report suspicious behavior. Forms for anonymous reporting, called Confidential Notices of Concern, are available at the Member Services Desk. The Salvation Army Kroc Center reserves the right to remove from the facility and terminate the membership of any member who fails to comply with any posted rules and regulation or otherwise breaches the Code of Conduct, in which case member will not be entitled to a refund of dues.

David Tirado

This is a perfect class to get children excited about art! Students have fun learning the basic techniques of various art media including drawing, painting, sculpture in clay and much more. The instructor creates a lesson plan that is new and different each session, so students may enjoy this class again and again. Min. 6; Max. 8

David received his M.F.A. from the Academy of Art University and his B.A. from San Francisco State University in Fine Art. His travels abroad to study painting in Guanajuato Mexico at the Bellas Artes in San Miguel de Allende are influential to his artistic development. David has shared his love for the creative process with students for more than 10 years.

Wade Tachihata

Wade began playing saxophone, guitar, ukulele, and piano in middle school and high school. He continued to pursue his love for music by attending Berklee College of Music and performing and recording with various bands in Hawaii and on the mainland. Wade has more than 15 years of experience teaching in Hawaii and enjoys seeing people evolve with their instrument and having fun learning.

Steven provides quality string instruction including fundamentals that ensure proper training and the foundations for improved musicianship while helping students develop their love for music. His experience as principal violist in the Hawaii Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Hawaii Chamber Orchestra lends to his ability to engage students to further their musical abilities while building their self-confidence.

Kroc Dance Academy Our award winning Kroc Dance Academy is perfect for beginning or experienced dancers. Kroc Dance Academy recreational class registration is available online or at the Member Services Desk. Ms. Alecia graduated from the University of South Carolina-Aiken with a BS in Exercise Science. She began her classical training at 6 and has 36+ years of dance experience in multiple genres. Ms. Alecia has been teaching for 25+ years and has developed an extensive syllabus by which Recreational and Pre-Professional students learn.

Carolyn Nixon

Ms. Carolyn began her dance training in New Jersey as a young child, training in ballet, tap, jazz, and modern, and earned her BA in Dance from Rutgers University. She has performed throughout the tri-state area and has over ten years of teaching experience raging from beginning toddler to advanced adult.

Jenny Riley-Doyle

Ms. Jenny was born and raised in the former East Germany and her ballet training was influenced by the Russian style that she loves sharing with her students. Prior to residing in Hawaii, she owned a dance studio in Germany and trained 6000+ students. She is excited to be part of the KDA team and share 20+ years of experience. 8

Ha'a Hula

• HULA INSTRUCTORS • Tammy Ipolani Silva

Kumu Tammy comes to us with 25 years of teaching experience. Her Halau extends from Honolulu to Japan and she also serves at Kumu Hula at Germaine’s Luau and Disney’s Aulani Resort. She delights in sharing her passion for hula by also leading the Hula Ministry team at The Salvation Army’s Kroc Church.

Evette Hauschel

A native from the Island of Oahu, Kumu Evette enjoys sharing her passion for hula and she has choreographed and instructed for churches, schools, and hula clubs for many years. Her ability to combine the culture of Hawaiian dance and her love for Jesus is beautiful to behold.

Erika Balag

Kumu Erika has been dancing hula for most of her life. She has been part of the Kapolei community for 20 years. She has dedicated her life to working with children, with a focus on children with special needs, through our DOE system. The Athletic Center has plenty of spacious court space for you to enjoy basketball, volleyball, and many other activities. Open gym is free to members. Masks are required indoors.

Pickup Game Policy

Pickup basketball and volleyball are designed for ages 14 and over to play a few friendly games. To allow our teams to compete in an organized fashion, signups for pickup will start at 6:30pm at the kiosk with the Gym Attendant. Members and Day pass users must sign up themselves and must be present and in line to be on the list. Members and Day pass users may not hold spots for others. Gym attendants will be sure signups follow the list in succession— no skipping spots or teams. The next team on the list will be on the side of the court keeping score.

Teams of 5 will be created by the sign-up sheet. Games are to 12 by 1’s and 2’s or highest score with a 12-min time limit (subject to change). Players will call their own fouls and ref their own games. No shooting free throws, as fouls will be taken out at half court. No shot clock.

Teams of 6 will be created by the sign-up sheet. Games are to 21, with subject to change to 15. Next team will ref the game by calling serve, net violations, and provide two-line judges and a score keeper.

To allow everyone the opportunity to compete, the winning team will stay on the court for a maximum of two (2) consecutive games. On their second win, winners must go back on the wait list along with losing team. Two new teams will then enter the court. ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY The Kroc Center Hawaii Athletic Center has a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY—NO CUSSING OR FIGHTING. Players who do so will be dismissed immediately from the Athletic Center and be asked NOT to return until the next day. It is recommended that all new members attend the New Member Orientation prior to working out. Please make an appointment with a personal trainer or Health & Wellness Management. Personal Training services are also available for a fee. Youths 12–15 may use the Health & Wellness facility and classes after completing the New Member Orientation with their parents/ guardians. After the orientation, they may utilize equipment and classes with adult supervision. Public drop-in access is intended for inclusive recreational use; any external personal or group training/coaching is prohibited. Contact the Rentals Department for specific group requests.

Please allow others to “work-in” on weight equipment between sets (e.g. do not rest on the machines as others may want to use it).

Collars on weight bars are mandatory at all times.

Use free weights only in designated areas. Do not bang or drop weights or weight stacks. Please return all free weights to their proper location after use.

Observe proper weight area etiquette and demonstrate courtesy, dignity and respect toward others at all times. Concerns or inappropriate behavior should be reported to Kroc Center staff immediately.

LESSONS + COMPETITION + CERTIFICATION

Swim Lesson Registration • HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT PROGRAM • AGES 3–5: Children should be willing to enter the water without parents, support themselves by holding onto the pool wall, be willing to get their faces wet, and can follow simple instructions. Enroll your child into a “Preschool” class. This course introduces children to the basic skills that are used in progressive classes in our swim program. AGES 5–12: Enroll your child in a Level 3, Level 4, or Water Adventures class. Please read each class description and place your child in a swim level that best fits their swimming ability.

NOTE: While we understand that some children are natural swimmers and can perform advanced skills for their age level, we recommend that your child stick with their age group to develop all the necessary swimming skills before moving to the next swim level. If necessary, parents will be advised which class is best for their child(ren) after our initial assessment on the first day of class. WITHDRAWALS: Cancellations for ALL aquatic programs should be done at least one week prior to the first day off class to be eligible for a refund. A $25.00 processing fee will be assessed for each class refund. MISSED AND CANCELLED LESSONS: There will be no makeups for missed or cancelled classes.

To limit physical contact, parents required to be in the pool. Participants will learn pre-beginner skills, such as blowing bubbles, floating, and are introduced to freestyle. Participants should be willing to enter the water from the pool edge, hold onto the poolside without support, and be able to follow simple instructions. Min. 5; Max. 10 AGES 3–6

Level 1–Introduction to Water Skills (Parent & Child Class) KROC SWIM INSTRUCTORS, LEISURE POOL

To limit physical contact, parents required to be in the pool. No prior swim experience required. For first time swimmers to be introduced to basic water skills in a play-to-learn method. Participants should be willing to enter the water from the pool edge, able to lower themselves into the water, hold onto the poolside without support, and able to follow simple instructions. Min. 5; Max. 10 AGES 5–12

Level 2–Fundamental Water Skills (Parent & Child Class) KROC SWIM INSTRUCTORS, LEISURE POOL

To limit physical contact, parents required to be in the pool. Must know how to swim free style. This class offers an introduction to fundamental swimming skills. Participants should be able to submerge face and head under the water comfortably, blow bubbles, push off the wall, and swim one to two body lengths to an instructor. Children should be able to float on front and back with limited support. Min. 5; Max. 10 AGES 5–12

Level 3–Stroke Development

KROC SWIM INSTRUCTORS, LEISURE POOL Swimmers should already know how to swim Freestyle and Backstroke. This class builds on fundamental skills and introduces basic swimming strokes and skills. Must be able to push off wall in a prone position and swim three body lengths without support using any arm stroke, and back float without support for 10 seconds. Min. 5; Max. 10 AGES 6–12

Level 4–Stroke Refinement

KROC SWIM INSTRUCTORS, LEISURE POOL This class builds on swimming stroke techniques. Students must be able to swim the following strokes for 25 yards: front crawl, elementary backstroke, and breaststroke. Must demonstrate the coordination for side stroke and butterfly. Min. 5; Max. 10 AGES 6–12

Small Group Swim Lessons

Certification Classes To be added to the participant list, email the Aquatics office at programs@kroccenterhawaii.org. Waitlist programs will commence once we have enough participants that are interested to take the class. Lifeguard Training: American Red Cross Certification KROC LIFEGUARD INSTRUCTOR, AQUATIC CENTER Participants will learn the skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies for pool and water park environments. Participation in all classes is required for the certification. Upon successfully passing all requirements, participants will earn certificates in Lifeguarding Skills, First Aid, & CPR/AED for the professional rescuer. Min. 6; Max. 10

Swim Team Swim try-outs are held every third Friday of the month (4PM) and are required to join swim teams. Please email programs@kroccenterhawaii.org to schedule your try-out. Upon initial registration, swim team members will be required to register for automatic monthly payments to be withdrawn on or around the 20th of each month.

KROC SWIM COACH, COMPETITION POOL Welcome to the Kroc Swim Team! Swimmers will learn training etiquette and how to work and play as a team. The focus for this group is to build swimming endurance and discipline. Swimmers must be able to pass our Aquatics Center Swim Test and swim 25 yards. Riptides Swim Team

KROC SWIM COACH, COMPETITION POOL A 60-minute swimming workout for young Olympians at heart. Riptides Swim Team incorporates stroke drills, kicking sets, distance sets, relay technique, sprints, and race starts. Primary focus is on freestyle, but all strokes are utilized. KROC LIFEGUARD INSTRUCTOR, AQUATIC CENTER

Participants will learn necessary skills to attend to first aid and CPR emergencies. Upon successfully passing all requirements, participants will earn certificates in First Aid, CPR, and AED. Class will be in two parts with an online portion, followed by an in-class skill session. Classes take place every 2nd Saturday of the month.
