Shipping POLLUTION „Underestimated‟ •
15 of the worlds biggest container ships may now emit as much pollution as all 760 million cars in the world.
One giant container ship can emit almost the same amount of cancer and asthma-causing chemicals as 50 million cars.
Pollution from the world‟s 90,000 cargo ships leads to 60,000 deaths a year in the US alone.
US government to impose a strict 230-mile buffer zone along the entire US coast.

What is LEED?
Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) from the USGBC provides building owners and operators with a framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations, and maintenance solutions.
LEED promotes sustainable building and development practices through a suite of rating systems that recognize projects that implement strategies for better environmental and health performance.
AAI‟s LEED COMMERCIAL CREDITS Credit
Local & Regional Materials
Rapidly Renewable Materials
EQc4.1 & EQc4.2
Low Emitting Materials – pertains to adhesives, sealants, paints and primers used with a vapor barrier.
Low Emitting Material – Composite Wood Products (No urea formaldehyde resins.)
AAI has sourced raw materials through the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC).
By purchasing raw materials containing these labels, we support the growth of “responsible forest management.”
Our material vendors provide FSC C.O.C. (Chain of Custody) Documents that reference the material used for the veneer, plywood and MDF.
We use Formaldehyde-free soy-based adhesives
Say GOODBYE To Formaldehyde Formaldehyde belongs in a jar, not in your guest room. •
Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen (a cancer causing substance) and irritant that could lead to possible cancers such as nasopharyngeal cancer and leukemia. They usually find their way into furniture woods and glues. AAI uses 100% soy based adhesive board in all products. No extra costs.
LEED Distance Map •
We keep within 500 miles or less for material to plant. Often, we ship furniture to projects within 500 miles.
LEED Platinum / Gold Distance
LOGISITCS Cost Comparison •
With our company‟s location in the United States, we are able to provide logistics at a fraction of the cost of overseas manufacturers.
This form illustrates the cost of the logistics of overseas manufacturers vs. the cost of logistics through AAI.
BACKHAUL of Material
AAI's ships on dedicated trucks to insure our ability to back haul material.
We offer rail transportation to ports for containerized furniture. This has proven to be significantly more economically and more environmentally friendly per ton.
All furniture pieces are wrapped in blankets or reusable paper and foam made from recyclable materials.
These packaging materials are returned to AAI after each delivery for reuse.
Our factory is lit by T5 High Output lamps that only require 1 amp to operate as opposed to 12-15.
Finish Line equipped to EPA approved standards and materials.
Production waste, such as saw dust and wood scrapings are vacuumed and collected . These wastes are sold for future use.
