MODEL MAKING

SITE MODEL- YEAR 3: a handmade site model celebrating the topographical outlines of Melton Mowbray (UK) train station and the area surrounding it. The model is made of gray card and black acrylic. The size of the model is 1.5 meters wide and 3 meters long in scale @1:200.

CONCEPTUAL SECTION MODELYEAR 2: the 3D printed sectional model presents the conceptualization between the different eras of offices and their relationship. How the different spaces meet and create a greater perception of spatial qualities, when they intersect, when they become thresholds and prepare the dweller for another time and space.

MODEL MAKING

PROCESS MODEL- YEAR 1: the model carries the idea of designing from the inside out, focusing on different points of obstacles and fields of view. How the architecture itself forms the exhibition of the space and the passage between and through mass. Placing various fragments in detail and celebrating them, to have them cut through the existing and parasitically live on surrounding buildings.

ISOMETRIC SECTION

MODEL- YEAR 1: this handmade model displays the relationship between the different layers in a timber frame construction. The use of different materials creates a language between the realistic materials and those of the model, with the idea of imitating a cut wooden shed revealing all its layers.

DRAWING

EXPLODED ISOMETRIC + ISOMETRIC SECTIONYEAR 3: the aim was to design different interventions on the site of Melton Mowbray (UK) with a detailed eye for technology and environment, through sustainable thinking, answering the surrounding nature and the urban challenges presented on the site.

NORTH + SOUTH RENDERED ELEVATIONS- YEAR 2: elevations of the library project ”KOJA” in Leicester (UK). ”KOJA” - the Swedish term for treehouse is a project that focuses on children’s learning about nature and the cultivation of plants. The aim is a concept that involves learning by doing, smelling and tasting, when books don’t reach out.

ISOMETRIC OF THE URBAN INTERVENTIONS FROM ”THE DEVIATING WIND EYE”- YEAR 3: the aim of the project was to make the secret of surveillance become public. This was achieved by answering the cultural building in the brief with the media’s elements; field of view, scene and perception of space. The proposal was to connect, through various scattered urban interventions, the two important parts of Melton Mowbray (UK), the heart of the city; the city centre, and the source of transport; the train station

ACUPUNCTURE DIAGRAM FROM ”THE DEVIATING WIND EYE”- YEAR 3: the diagram is built on a fixed military grid over Melton Mowbray (UK) of which 25 sq.m. per square in scale @1:1. Another grid was superimposed with extended morphological lines from various points of interest, which then stretched across the city. A morphological study was made in relation to positive and negative spaces and the amount of its movement, based on a filter of hide and reveal and the obstacles of surveillance.

The intersections of the different grids created different coded forms which were then precisely placed in the urban environment.

DIS:CLOSING THE WIND EYE- YEAR 3: is a diagram showing an explosion of the various intervention´s movement and traces from ”The Deviating Wind Eye”. Each folly has its unique activity and function which in turn contributes to the site to create a tighter social network between the urban’s own solids. The lines are stretched and cross each other, different views through frames cross and create a distorted perception of the scene in the field of view. Movements become traces with a knowledge of their existence.

”CHAPTER 2 - HEAT” FROM ”THE DEVIATING WIND EYE”- YEAR 3: by studying materials and letting this become part of the perception of the project, the material glass was chosen to experiment with and understand. This part of the process reinforced the idea of ”hide and reveal” as the chosen material is a material of information and perception. Glass in different shapes, cuts and grains were put to the test. Different silicate materials along with metals were tested in a kiln. The goal was to hybridize glass with other materials to test them against different vectors. The X axis shows the results of the grain of the materials in connection with the Y axis temperature course in the kiln program together with time. The dashed lines show the relationship between the materials and its use in the exploration.

The cooling process for the kiln as a rule of thumb is that the cooling of the kiln takes at least as long as the firing time, for example: 1 hour firing = 1 hour cooling. The dashed lines show the relationship between the materials and its use in the exploration. The straight lines towards the Y axis graph show only the temperature for firing independent of time
