Our Mission

The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Hawaii is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

The after-school hours have become a critical time for youth – a time when many children in our communities are left to fend for themselves without positive adult supervision. We provide a safe place filled with hope and opportunity, ongoing relationships with caring adult mentors, and enriching programs.

Our Vision

Our vision is to provide a world class Club-Experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who walks through our doors, with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future and demonstrating good character and citizenship while living a healthy lifestyle.

Dear Valued Supporters and Beloved Community, In 2022, we’ve witnessed a positive shift thanks to the Aloha spirit that united us during ongoing global challenges.

As families confronted escalating adversities, our deep-rooted relationships within the community allowed us to stand tall as a trusted resource. The Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii remained steadfast, offering safe spaces, compassionate mentors, and empowering youth development programs for thousands of youth and teens who depend on our Clubs.

Over recent years, our Clubs have evolved into the safest places for youth to go when they are not in school, providing hope and opportunity during the hardest of times. My deepest gratitude goes out to our partners, donors, community leaders, and fellow organizations for their generous outpouring of Aloha and commitment to the youth and families of Oahu and Kauai. Your dedication has been a source of hope that has enabled our Clubs to thrive, providing crucial support during a trying time for all of us.

In the spirit of LŌKAHI – building new connections, rebuilding, and strengthening current connections, our Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii came together with our communities in unity. LŌKAHI, often understood as “unity,” is to be connected, to recognize that we are all part of one whole universe since the beginning of time. Auntie Pilahi’s teachings, passed down to Uncle Pono, emphasize that to be “lōkahi” is to be connected and to understand how we are intricately linked to everything around us.

Youth of the Year 2022

For 75 years, the Youth of the Year program has honored and celebrated the nation’s most inspiring teens and their incredible journeys. Stories of outstanding leadership, service, academic excellence and dedication to living a healthy lifestyle have made Youth of the Year America’s premier leadership and recognition program for teens. These amazing young people represent the voice and spirit of hope for America. Inspiring all kids to lead. To succeed. To inspire.

Selected from several outstanding Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii(BGCH) youth on Oʻahu and Kaua`i, Isabella S., a senior at Sacred Hearts Academy and member of the Charles C. Spalding Honolulu Clubhouse has been named the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii 2022 Youth of the Year.

Robo-Rangers

ROBOTICS TEAM

Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii’s Robotics Team, Robo-Rangers, won 1st place Hawaii State champion, and 1st place for Robot Performance at the 2022 First Lego League (FLL) Hawaii State Championship February 26th 2022, with the highest score of 445 points.

The team’s project was incredibly innovative and focuses on altered energy source to fuel container ships. Through discussions with PASHA employees, the Robo-Rangers had an opportunity to discuss the feasibility of their project and how their innovation could be retrofitted onto the ships.

The Robo-Rangers began their journey with support from Punahou School and the OBOTS, a team of accomplished robotics senior students, who started a non-profit foundation to raise funds and help provide opportunities for youth from diverse backgrounds. The OBOTS brought the concept and resources to BGCH and paid for all expenses related to the team and projects. Along with their adult support team, the OBOTS taught the concepts of robotics, including design, programming, execution, missions, public performance and presentations, and public speaking to the Robo-Rangers. Remarkably the youth from BGCH gained these skills virtually due to restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

What’s Next PROGRAM

Created in 2020, as the pandemic highlighted inequities in the communities BGCH serves, the What’s Next Initiative is a five year cohort based, case management program which takes 8th grade teens and mentors them in cohorts through to on-time graduation from high school with a solid plan for their future.

The What’s Next Initiative is built on seven pillars: Academic Readiness, Post-Secondary Option Exploration, Health Education, Self-Discovery, Life Skills, Workforce Development & Preparation, and Motivation. Teens who join What’s Next are identified as at-promise youth who need more resources and encouragement so they may achieve self-efficacy and open their minds to planning for their future.

Panda Cares Center of Hope In a remarkable collaboration with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Panda Express unveiled its latest initiative: the Panda Cares Center of Hope, at the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii, Spalding Honolulu Clubhouse.

On December 9, 2022, this venture marked a significant stride towards enhancing educational opportunities and nurturing the growth of Hawaii’s youth.

The Panda Cares Center of Hope is a newly renovated space in our Spalding Clubhouse. Its main goal is to bring more happiness, education, and important social-emotional development to our local communities.

At its heart, the Project Learn initiative ties together the essence of each Center of Hope, offering a comprehensive strategy to improve what young minds learn during their regular school hours. At the same time, it introduces them to experiences that encourage a genuine love for learning.

The program’s core is focused on social and emotional development, based on research showing that students perform better in school when they engage in enjoyable and educational activities during their free time. Our Panda Cares Center of Hope has been carefully designed to meet the specific needs of our Club members. It’s meant to be a welcoming place for young people to learn, get involved, and grow in a supportive environment.
