FROM THE DIRECTOR

has been student driven, sometimes by one director of a group, at other times as a collaboration by “the ensemble”. Many play groups tonight are employing the spoils of my recent purchases from local opportunity shops in order to see how many different configurations we can achieve with a modest amount of second hand furniture pieces in the true sprit of Grotowski’s “Poor Theatre”. Performing Arts at Girton Grammar School proudly present the One Act Play Festival which culminates the Term One cocurricular activity, Actors’ Studio. The students have been given the opportunity to work together in preparing a ten minute, or shorter, play and have taken to the task with enthusiasm, creativity and an outstanding sense of self-driven purpose. What has been significant again this year (as in previous years), has been the number of students who have decided to write their own plays. This indicates the great confidence and interest the students have in telling their own stories. In all cases, the direction of stage blocking and stagecraft

Various awards are presented at the end of the evening which provide incentive and friendly artistic rivalry amongst the performers. Aside from the awards, I hope the event instils an “art for art’s sake” philosophy amongst performers and audience alike. Actors’ Studio is an opportunity for students to take some creative risks, to write and play characters we want to write and play, to learn to manipulate dramatic and comedic elements and to truly be in charge of the performance product. We hope you enjoy the evening’s entertainment. Mrs Jacinta Jackson MiC Actors Studio

PROGRAMME OF PLAYS

1:They Wore Suits A team of highly “specialised” assassins are given a new mission. Will they succeed and get their pay-out? Or will they be caught? Director Stephanie Brunner 11 Jones Writer Toby Scott 10 Jenkin Thomas Ayers 11 Jones Harry Ryan 11 Frew 2: Backstage This isn’t a very good play, let’s be honest. But ‘Backstage’ will give a limited insight into what happens behind the scenes. A tacky princess, an annoying prince, a disorientated old man and a perfectly great director who may or may not have written this synopsis. Try to enjoy.

3:The Dirty Fork Written By Monty Python This classic Monty Python sketch starts simply and escalates rapidly. Think twice before you complain about the state of your cutlery.

Writer/Director Audrey Sheen 8 Jones Annabelle Bellingham 8 Jones Stirling Bellingham 8 Jones Nathan Jones 8 Jones Morgan O’Meara 8 Aherne

Director Brontë Maruff 11 Jenkin Alexandra Babovic 11 Jenkin Xavier Maruff 7 Millward Ruby Benedict 11 Riley Ainsley Hatcher 11 Riley

4:The Revenge of the 3 Little Pigs Revenge of The Three Little Pigs is a play that starts at the end. We start with the big bad wolf getting out of jail with the help of his very influential mother. This is the last straw for the three rather anthropomorphic pigs. It’s time for revenge. Writer/Director Olivia Russell 9 Jones Jacob Ware 9 Aherne Cadi Kuchel 9 Jenkin Ella Fletcher 9 Jones Chloe Hope 9 Jones Avanesh Dhaliwal 9 Millward 5: His Return Written By Percival Wilde Set in 1918, Helen Hartley awaits her husband who is coming home from the war. Director Emma Greenall 9 Riley Chelsea Dillon 9 Jones Eloise Symes 7 Jones Zahra Chowdhury 7 Frew 6: Boggle Box Based on TV show Goggle Box, Boggle Box is an hilarious skit of some of your favorite TV shows. Writer Stephanie Brunner 11 Jones Director Jacob Hooke 7 Riley Abraham Geyer 7 Jenkin Oliver Scott 7 Jenkin Jarra Sardone 7 Aherne

7: The Brady Bunch You see us as you want to see us—in the simplest terms, by the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is an absurdist...and a communist...and a fan of Pirates of the Caribbean 4: At World’s End...and allergic to doggos ...and blatantly ripping off the beloved 1985 cult classic The Breakfast Club. Does that answer your question? I hope not, as this conversation is a little one-sided. I feel like I’m the only one talking. Who are you, dear audience member? Therein lies the real question. Writer/Director John Lavery 12 Aherne Bronte Bailey 12 Millward Jonathan Garoni 12 Frew Ben Hitchman12 Aherne Ky Kearin 12 Aherne 8: Cluedo Inspired by the famous board game, five dangerous and influential guests come to stay at the secluded Tudor Hall in search of the utmost privacy. Tensions rise and interests clash, culminating in a murder. By the strict rules of the Hall, no contact with the outside world is allowed: the guests themselves must bring the killer to justice. Whodunit? Writer/Director Alex Nielsen 12 Millward Alicia McGovern 11 Riley Michaela Hulme 11 Aherne Harvey Gibbs 12 Jones Milos Babovic 12 Jenkin Jemma Morris 12 Aherne
