A word from the Guvnor Welcome to Bendigo Theatre Company’s production of ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’. The production you see before you is a result of countless hours of commitment and dedication from our cast, production team, and committee. ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ has truly been a life changing experience for many involved - teaching new skills, and forging new friendships. I would like to take the opportunity to thank every single person who has been involved in making this production a reality. Personally, I feel extremely humbled and proud to be part of such a

cohesive, determined and talented team who has had the drive and expertise to work together and successfully create a wonderful end result. As Production Manager, I am extremely proud of what we have managed to achieve together. ... and the other Guvnor I never cease to be in awe of the truly wonderful art form that is live theatre. People cross all the boundaries to which we are normally assigned – social, economic, age, race, gender, etc to create a truly unique experience – one in which everyone, EVERYONE is essential and equal. That experience is the full process from audition through to the tearful final performance, and is inclusive of cast, crew and audience. I am intensely proud of everyone involved in ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ because together we have created something wonderful that did not exist before. The support, love, laughter and hard work we have all shared has made this experience so special and pure – like the water you put in a car battery. Special thanks to John Murray whose instinct is impeccable, and to Bevan who had the audacity to break the Director’s finger during the slapping and punching rehearsal. Vive la différence, vive l'égalité! Maree Kennedy

The Cast Charlie

Conor Cunningham

Conor’s love of performing arts spans over 25 years in Ireland and Australia. Some of his favourite roles were Uncle Fester in ‘The Addams Family’, Mr Pinky in ‘Hairspray’ and as an ensemble member in ‘Chicago’. Conor became a member of BTC in 2013 and this is his 10th production with the company. He is a big fan of comedy and, following a successful attempt at directing ‘Noises Off’ in 2015, he is overjoyed to play a principal role in this brilliant comedy. Conor has enjoyed playing East End gangster Charlie ‘The Duck’ Clench and feels humbled to be surrounded by this talented team (although he’ll never be able to look at a small dog in the same way ever again!)

I shall return.m. Like a stor And everybody will get wet!

Pauline Amy Vaux

Amy is a newcomer to Bendigo and to BTC. She has adored acting and theatre since taking speech and drama classes in grade 5 and hasn’t stopped. Following her VCE Theatre Studies she auditioned for the VCAA’s prestigious ‘Top Acts’, and since then has been a part of NIDA’s young actors studio and Monash University’s Med Revue. Amy is incredibly excited to be a part of ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ this year, and thrilled to be a part of such an amazing production team. She can’t wait for everyone to see the show.

Alan Dangle

Jason McMurray Originally from the ACT, Jason has been on the stage since he was 11.

He was awarded ‘Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role’ by The Music Theatre Guild of Victoria for his portrayal of ‘Amos Hart’ in BCT’s ‘Chicago’. He studied VET Dance through Bendigo Senior Secondary College, and has continued to perform in dance showcases throughout Victoria including the Melbourne Fringe Festival, and locally through ZFit Studios where he was a cabaret and couples pole dance instructor. Last year Jason designed costumes for ‘The Addams Family’ as well as playing the charming Gomez Addams, then he performed one of his dream roles, Peter Allen in ‘The Boy From Oz’. Jason adores comedy and hopes that you enjoy ‘One Man Two Guvnors’.

It’s 1963dad! You can’t force me to marry a dead homosexual!

Stanley Stubbers Christopher Emond

Christopher has a love of theatre and performing that spans over 20 years. He has worked professionally with ‘The Flying Bookworm Theatre Company’ and with the ‘Associazione Culturale Linguistica Educational’, living and working in Italy for six months performing in the ‘Theatrino’ shows. He has been the Artistic Director of F.L. Educational Theatre Australia. Christopher has directed and performed in many amateur theatre productions. His directing credits include BTC’s ‘Man of LaMancha’, and Girton Grammar School’s ‘My Fair Lady’, ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’, ‘Cabaret’ and ‘West Side Story’. As performer he has played many roles, including Wilbur Turnblad in ‘Hairspray’, The Baker in ‘Into the Woods’, Gaston in ‘Beauty and the Beast’, Fagin in ‘Oliver’, Seymour in ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ and Bill Snibson in ‘Me and My Girl’.

Harry Dangle

Paul Henshall

Paul’s stage work began back in the late ‘70s as a drummer in regular working bands but it wasn’t until 2003 that he made his theatrical debut as the King in ‘Cinderella’ alongside his much more talented family members. This experience got him hooked on theatre and since then he has played character roles in many BTC shows including ‘South Pacific’, ‘Breaker Morant’, ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘A Chorus of Disapproval’, ‘The Rooms’, ‘Noises Off’, ‘Mary Poppins’ and TenX 10. Paul hopes you enjoy the show as much as he has.

Rachel Crabbe

Amy McMillan

Amy studied contemporary vocal training with Caitlin Penno for 6 years, and completed VCE Drama and Music Performance at Catholic College Bendigo. One of her proudest achievements was winning CCB’s 2015 Musician of the Year, and Audience Awards. Amy has taken part in many productions, including ‘Annie’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Hairspray’, ‘Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’, ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘Assassins’ and ‘The Addams Family’. In 2016 Amy was invited to perform at the Music Theatre Guild of Victoria awards ceremony. Amy is delighted to be part of this cast. It’s not every play that you’re able to play a man AND a woman.

7

Francis Henshall

Chris Pedler

Chris has been a BTC member since 2011 and is excited to be taking on his first lead role.

Chris was in ‘Noises Off’, ‘Turning Tables’ and ‘The Meeting Place’, and in both seasons of BTC’s TenX10 as a writer and director. Last year Chris took part in his first musical ‘The Addams Family’ which was a learning curve experience that left him wanting to creep further into the spotlight. Francis Henshall is a role Chris identifies with a little too much (especially when it comes to being determined to eat!) He hopes you enjoy ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ as much as the cast have.

Lloyd Boateng

Braiden Barnard

As a 12-year-old, Braiden was a precocious, yet innocent child just beginning high school - then theatre happened. Since then, he has appeared in a variety of shows including musicals, doorslamming farces, highbrow drama, and even the occasional karaoke competition, for which he still shows no sign of remorse. Previous shows include ‘The Mousetrap’, ‘Murdered to Death’, ‘Dad’s Army’ and ‘Noises Off’ with Frankston Theatre Group, as well as ‘The Trojan Women’ with the 2014 NIDA Open program. ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ marks Braiden’s first appearance with Bendigo Theatre Company and he is delighted to be performing alongside friends old and new.

8

Dolly

Emma Black

This is Emma’s fourth time performing with Bendigo Theatre Company, having previously appeared in ‘All Shook Up’, ‘The Removalists’ and ‘Chicago’. Emma has been performing since the age of three, learning dance at her mother’s school, the Vivienne Lee School of Dance. She has studied contemporary singing, sung in local blues band ‘Trouble in Mind’ and performed with her brother, James, in acoustic duo ‘Pure Black’. Emma undertook a course at the National Theatre of Melbourne in 2013, after completing VCE Drama & Theatre Studies. She has since appeared on television in Winners & Losers, Offspring, the Warriors, Hunters, Sunshine and more. She hopes you enjoy the show and can’t wait to make you laugh!

Gareth

Julian Regan

This production sees Julian return to the stage with Bendigo Theatre Company after many years, reaffirming his long association with the company. His last foray was as Algenon in ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ in 2000. Previous dramatic performances include: ‘The Laramie Project’, ‘Amadeus’ and ‘The Rooms’. More recently he designed for and performed with the Abu Dhabi Choral Group during an hiatus in the Middle East. Julian brought the colour and sparkle to the BTC production of ‘A Boy From Oz’ as costume designer.

Alfie

Jonathan Lawrence

Jonathan is a pet owner and music lover who has been performing with Bendigo Theatre Company since ‘Return to the Forbidden Planet’ earlier this century. It’s always a kick for him to “play old” as it’s his intention to be insufferably ancient in no time. LAY OUT THE NEWSPAPER!

The Ensemble Seamus Allan

Seamus is new to theatre in Bendigo, commencing his journey with school drama performances. This newfound love of theatre has developed through improvisation and small drama classes at Catholic College Bendigo. His stage debut was with the comedic role of ‘Eugene’ in Catholic College Bendigo’s 2016 production of ‘Grease’. Seamus joined Bendigo Theatre Company this year, for the TenX10 season as part of the cast for the cleverly written play, “Inner Child”, by Kerry Turpie. Having been bitten by the performance bug, Seamus leapt at the chance to audition for ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ and is overjoyed to be working with, and learning from, such a talented cast. He hopes to continue being an active part of Bendigo Theatre Company into the future.

Wendy Brown Wendy makes sure there is always some form of performance in her life to keep her soul nurtured and to remain young at heart. She attended dance classes as a child and continues to as an adult (although most parts don’t move the way they used to!) At school Wendy was in many productions and later, joined Echuca Theatre Group. She became a BTC member when, after bringing her daughter to audition for ‘Peter Pan’, found herself auditioning and was cast as Smee. She was hooked! Wendy has performed in ‘Hairspray’, ‘Cinderella’, ‘Snow White’ and ‘The Addams Family’. She has also enjoyed being involved in the two seasons of TenX10. Wendy is looking forward to the audience’s reaction to ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’. There is something very satisfying about making people laugh.

Theo Dickons Theo is a seventeenyear-old student in year 11 at Bendigo Senior Secondary College. Ever since he was first cast as a Benny in his primary school production of ‘Circus Splendida’, Theo has had an undying passion for drama, and is incredibly happy to have been cast in his first BTC role in ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’. After hearing from his friends about the show, Theo took his chance to audition, and is grateful that he was offered a part. In his spare time, Theo enjoys spending time with his friends and playing board games.

9

Thomas Hodge (tall guy) Thomas Hodge is an aspiring writer and actor, currently in year 11 at Bendigo Senior Secondary College. He has been acting for 3 years and has enjoyed great success in this short time. His biggest role to date was playing the antagonist, Gaston, in Bendigo South East’s 2016 production of ‘Beauty And The Beast’. Thomas was in ‘The Funeral’ by Vern Wall in Bendigo Theatre Company’s recent TenX10 event. He has also performed in a number of drama showcases and hosted BSE’s 2016 awards night. ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ is his first major production and he is thrilled to be taking part, although, he worries he’s being exploited for his height. Casey Lodge Casey is a TV journalist from Adelaide who is rejoining the acting world after moving to Bendigo to work for WIN News. With experience both onstage and in production, Casey is excited to channel her passion for the arts into her performance, and to bring her experience working in TV journalism (a performance art of its own) to the stage.

10

Bevan Madden Apart from the last two years, Bevan has always lived in Bendigo and been performing. He has had roles in school productions such as ‘Beauty and the Beast’ (2010), ‘Les Misérables’ (2012) and played in the orchestra for ‘Into The Woods’ (2014). In 2016, Bevan was studying science at Melbourne University where he codirected a small college performance of ‘Legally Blonde: The Musical’. Now back in Bendigo, this is Bevan’s first production with Bendigo Theatre Company and he hopes it will be the first of many. When not at rehearsals, Bevan spends time playing the double bass in the Bendigo Symphony Orchestra and working at Sandhurst Stockfeeds, a family business. His other hobbies include short walks on the beach, photography and bingewatching netflix. Harry Warren Harry is 17 years old, a year 11 student at Bendigo Senior Secondary College and has always loved drama. Harry made his debut to the stage in 2016, performing the role of Maurice in Bendigo South East College’s production of ‘Beauty and the Beast’. This will be Harry’s first appearance with the Bendigo Theatre Company. After seeing the call for actors to audition for this hilarious play, Harry seized the opportunity to become a member of the company. In his spare time, Harry enjoys looking at memes and learning to play the piano. Harry would like to thank BTC for welcoming him and encouraging him to persue his acting endeavors.
