SPORTS EXCELLENCE PROGRAM 2017 The Girton Grammar School Sports Excellence Program has been developed to cater to the needs of the diverse group of elite athletes currently enrolled at the school. Young aspiring athletes can face difficulty in achieving a balance between their academic and sporting goals. This can lead to them abandoning their sporting aspirations or prioritizing sport over academic pursuits. The Girton Grammar Sports Excellence Program is designed to help students balance their sporting goals and academic studies in a supportive, professional setting. The program is open to Year Nine and Ten students who compete at a State, National or the highest Regional level within their chosen sport. The program is not limited to mainstream sports, rather it is an individualised training program designed to allow students to work collaboratively with coaches, parents, teachers and experts to build on their physical and mental strength and fitness to enable them to perform at their peak. The Sports Excellence Program is offered as an elective subject, allowing students to conduct a large portion of their training regime during school hours, hence minimalising the impact on academic performance. Students accepted into the Sports Excellence Program will not only participate in regular strength and conditioning training but will also be educated in the following areas: • Food Fuels & Energy Systems • Nutrition • Fatigue & Recovery • Strength & Conditioning • Sports Psychology • Leadership

• Chronic Adaptions • Performance Enhancement Methods & Strategies

It is a privilege to be accepted into the Sports Excellence Program. Students must be fully committed to the program whilst maintaining a high level of effort in their academic studies and displaying excellent behavior in the classroom. If Key Performance Indicators are not ‘Very High’ or ‘High’ on academic reports, students will be required to attend a
