BEST WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR HANDS ON ADJUSTING IN A YOGA CLASS? It’s always nice to receive an adjustment in a yoga class. Yoga adjustments can help you reach a deeper stretch and experience the full benefits of an asana. They can help you to progress your practice and achieve a more profound sensation than if you are practicing alone. As a yoga teacher, a hands-on adjustment is a lovely thing to be able to offer your students. The best way to improve your skills as an adjuster is to take a yoga adjustments course. An adjustments course will give you all the information you need to be able to safely and properly perform adjustments. Depending on your skill level and the time you have available, you can learn how to adjust via a 100 hours Adjustments Immersion Yoga Teacher Training course, which will take 2 weeks. Or a 300 hours Yoga Teacher Training, which will take 4 weeks. It’s worth noting that you probably won’t practice adjusting for the whole 4 weeks, as these 300 hours YTTC courses are typically split with a Vinyasa practice. Whichever option you decide, you’ll first learn how to move people into the correct alignment and then using your body learn multiple hands-on adjustments for a series of asanas. There are often various techniques or approaches to adjusting each asana, so you’ll learn how to select what works best for each individual student. You will practice yoga each morning to familiarize yourself with the postures, and then attend daily Adjustments Workshops which will provide the opportunity to learn and practice your alignment and adjustments on each other. Students will then have the opportunity to adjust their peers in selected morning practices and test their new knowledge while receiving all important feedback. The best way to improve your adjustments is to attend the course and try to be as present as possible, there is so much to learn and a lot of information to take in, so make the most of it! Listen to the feedback from your peers and apply it, and be confident with your approach and your skills. It’s important to trust yourself and be conscious of your students practice and limits. The last thing you want to do is push someone too hard and cause an injury, so a skill you’ll learn from attending an yoga adjustments course is how to observe different people’s bodies and interpret what, or how much, adjusting they need. Upon completion of your course, you will receive a yoga teaching certificate which qualifies you to adjust and teach back at home. When done properly, yoga adjustments give students deeper access to their practice and allow them to experience the full potential of a posture. And, as a yoga teacher, a hands-on adjustment is a wonderful extra to be able to add to your yoga classes. If you want to improve your skills, and offer more to your students, consider checking out a adjustments yoga teacher training course.
