The easy way to cut costs and production time When purchasing materials, does your company still focus solely on the purchase price? Remember that the cheapest supplier may not always be the best solution if you do not take additional procurement costs into account.

Total cost of ownership (TCO) shows you all the costs involved in buying and using purchased goods and services. Will 3D printing change the sector forever?

New line of single acting cylinders

It sounds appealing — one press of a button and the 3D printer produces the part a few hours later, ready for use. This may well be the norm in around ten years' time.

In terms of price and the opportunities presented by 3D printers, we appear to have reached a tipping point. But where do we stand and what are the implications for the sector?

Until recently, it was mainly only large companies that used 3D printing for prototyping of new parts. Recently, however, smaller OEMs have also started using 3D printers to a large extent. But what everyone is really waiting for is a metal printer. In early March, it was announced that a Dutch startup had sold a metal printer to Airbus. The aircraft manufacturer will be using the invention from Additive Industries in Eindhoven to 3D print hinges and armrests, among other things.

A Minor Revolution If this development continues, it could result in a minor revolution. Although, for the time being, traditional production methods will remain standard for mass production, printers can already provide a solution for unique, bespoke parts. 3D printing also makes experimenting with adjustments to machines much easier. In addition, 3D printing can be provided as an attractive service to customers, along the lines of a print shop.

Onwards to 4D While we are now only just beginning to discover the potential of 3D printing, 4D printing has already made inroads.

With 4D printing, the printed product is capable of responding to changing conditions, if it comes into contact with water, for example. Brands such as Adidas and Nike are already investing in this technology. Just imagine footwear that could adapt to what you are walking on. This example can be extended to cultivation, where a plough or cultivator might adapt to its surroundings. If 3D printing will soon be the cause of a minor revolution, things will really start to get interesting with 4D printing‌

In response to market demand, we have added the EPL-CB to our range as a new line of single acting cylinders.

Together with the C-series and ST-series, which were already part of our range, we now cover demand for the most common cylinders on the market.

SKF appoints Kramp as agricultural industry distributor The new arrangement between SKF and Kramp covers all Kramp and Grene sales offices and will allow Kramp to specialise even further in the field of bearings. It is now easy for you to select several thousands of items from the well-known SKF brand in our webshop and you will receive the best assistance possible from our specialists and the support of local SKF teams.

Multi-brand strategy For our western European customers, we had previously focused on INA FAG bearings. However, thanks to our multi-brand strategy, the full SKF range is now also available to them. And our eastern European customers will now find INA FAG products in the webshop alongside SKF, so everyone can now choose the best solution for their application.

Answer:

Yes. In addition to the paper edition of OEM Expert, we recently made a digital version available for download on the OEM page in the webshop. We have been asked this question more and more often in the last few months and it is clear that online publications are becoming increasingly popular.

The benefits of an online edition include being able to provide other content such as video in addition to the usual text and images and being able to track statistics.
