1 Southbridge Tennis Club’s season will be into the swing of things again during Open Day on Saturday 13th September. Interested tennis players are welcome to dust off the racquet and come along for a friendly hit, and to see some of the Club’s top guns in action, including new life member Simon McCormick. At the AGM held last week, McCormick was recognised for his long-standing dedication to the Southbridge Club, which includes his annual dare-devil antics to get the large hedge trimmed. Registration for mid-week and Saturday tennis occurs on Open Day. Club games, rained off at the end of last season, will also be played. Club trophies to be competed for include the Christey Cup Men’s singles, Alan Tray Women’s singles, Inwood Cup and Women’s singles. Some entertaining tennis will be played, so locals are invited to come and cheer on the players. Junior registration will occur in the week preceding Open Day. Southbridge Tennis Club offers coaching, mini-tennis, and Saturday competition - for beginners, primary, and secondary students. Repairs to the tennis courts are a focus this season. This makes the annual fundraiser, the phone book delivery, particularly important. The Club hopes that senior and junior players, and their families, will volunteer to help with this event.
